Crazy World is a five for me, despite its shortcomings on Side 2.

I'll be listening to this soon. I got caught in an Autechre marathon that I can't seem to stop.

Looking forward to this though, sounds intriguing.

Rico, I give Fishmans a 3, world music a 4. Arthur Brown a 3. And I would put my Beneath the Brine rating, in this context, at a 2. It is the album I have least liked.

I've been through the album once, but I was too distracted to develop an opinion. Thankfully it's short and will get more opportunities throughout the week.

How the hell have I never heard this before?

Logan, I definitely love it so far. And this is coming from a guy who usually has trouble loving psychedelia even if I feel like I should.

Yep, I'm definitely giving this a 4.0. Good stuff, already becoming a favorite. Didn't blow my mind absolutely, but definitely rocked my socks.

That's a feat since I've had a hard time giving anything I've heard for the first time more than a 3.5, since repeated listens usually are necessary to elevate something from the 3.5-land of solidly awesome to 4.0-land or more of personal favorite. The most recent groups to elicit this response/rating from me were CunninLynguists and, before that, Fishmans.

So thanks, Logan! I'm definitely happy with this album and I can see why you recommended it.

At this point my primary motive for getting an album through here is to see Rico review it, not to expose y'all to it. :noble:

Also, we have five submissions this week by my count. It'll be a pretty easy poll if that holds. I'll give it until tonight and move forward. If that ends up being the number, then the votes will just determine what order we go in.

Why not include the other also-rans from last time as well? If those folks didn't submit a different choice, could we include their Round 1 offerings too?

I submit Vanessa Rossetto's Whole Stories, because y'all need some musique concrete in your lives and I want to hear Rico talk about it.

Dunno about Spotify, but Bandcamp has it in full, if it counts, stream-wise (don't see why not).

After two trips through Crazy World my perspective is quite positive. I've had some trouble in the past getting into '60s psychedelia (the likes of Os Mutantes are about as "deep" as I've bothered to investigate). This was a lot of fun though and it kept me engaged. The highlight track "fire" that everyone is familiar with is additionally entertaining for me now, because I had been considering submitting a hip hop album for this thread that samples that track without realizing the connection.

Since my ratings are showing up here anyway, I'll save Rico the click: 3.5. For me that's a good thing.

I think this is a good plan. I was just about to ask SVS if she was going to submit.

We need to get some more people into this. It's really fun (I say, as I'm still stuck on week 4... but I intend to rectify that in whatever time I have tonight).

So I've seen bisch bosh through to the end. I don't think it's talentless. I do still maintain that it reminds me of composition students - people looking to put avant garde together for the first time.

I worked out for me exactly what it was that made this album unenjoyable for me, and it became clear it was Scott walkers vocals. The lyrics appeared to me entirely devoid of meaning, and so I tried to think of them in terms solely of rhythm, pitch and timbre - but I've heard lyrics done so well when all one starts with is a rhythmical or melodic idea. In the end, they felt devoid of depth to the extent that I think it's entirely possible I would have enjoyed the album more if they were entirely absent. Actually, I started trying to imagine it that way and something odd happened... I started to enjoy it.

This goes to show something I already knew... that it is possible for me to enjoy avant garde. This just wasn't the one for me.

1/10 or half a star on the rico rankings

On to Arthur Brown. I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this.

Listened to it again today and last night!

I'm actually going to edit my star rating just slightly from 4.0 to 3.5. I still love it, but I'm trying to be a stickler with the differentiation between "awesome" and "favorite", and unfortunately Side 2 didn't hold up as well on repeated listens. It's still definitely awesome though. As Rico would say, I'd give it a "strong" 3.5 (or "7" on his rating scale).

I gave Crazy World another listen this morning. The most appealing thing about the album for me is that it breezes by so effortlessly. All three times I've listened I haven't realized it was over already until I was three or four tracks into the bonus stuff on Spotify. That's a good thing in my book, as it means I wasn't consciously sitting here waiting for it to be over. That happens more than I'd like with music.

I have a weird relationship with that album (went from thinking it was #2 JT fav after TAAB, then #1 and loving even The Hare, then hating it all, now thinking it's somewhere in #4-#5land as far as JT albums go but still hating The Hare), so I'd be more than happy to revisit it (and the rest of Jethro Tull's discography while we're at it). :nicenod:

Get out of here.

I do love me some MitG though.

But I haven't listened to any Jethro Tull in eons. That's why I'm looking forward to revisiting it all, even if I don't feel I quite like some prog as much as I used to anymore.
