Nope, couldn't be online.I had to go to my sister's graduation ceremony.

Mac seemed like a good vote to make at the time I did, when the only wagon was Enrique's and I didn't find it very appealing. But I couldn't be here to change after that wagon died, sorry.

The Assassination of Nutella by the Coward MacDougall

I shall preface the tale I am about to tell with a little education. I am not your run of the mill bounty hunter. I don't look for surface reasons, slips and statements. I look for deeper intent. I don't read the words and think to myself "there's a civilian", I look for "Mafia sub purpose". If I cannot see it, then I see a civilian. The objective of the bad guy is to look as civvy as possible but they cannot hide their true intent, which is to continue to exist and to confuse the civilians into thinking they are one of their own. This is the assassination of nutella by the coward MacDougall.

Unlike most of the time when I throw out an early read, nutella pinged me not for tone or gut but because of a post. This one in fact. I rate nutella as at least a 4 star catch so keep in mind that it's not like she's gonna be some glaring beacon of Mafia. When she's Mafia she's good, real good.
nutella wrote: Wed Jan 30, 2019 1:26 am
Epignosis wrote: Wed Jan 30, 2019 12:49 am Kylemii, MacDougall, and G-Man are bad.

Go.
oh yeah totes
It's short, I know. As with all things it could be a civ post but as far as Mafia-like posts go this one is pretty typical of early game Mafia players in that it doesn't possess much civilian purpose and is also a fairly "risk free" type of post. It's as Jay would say "busywork". Responding to the first Earnest attempt to start the game off with a choking response, the point of this post is questionable and all it does really is immediately take the pressure valve off the three players Epignosis tried to put under the hammer, which I rate as a good look for the drunk guy.

This alone is not enough though. As you will see there is a bit more to come and it really only came to a head at the end of the previous day. It was the way she dealt with the lynch of Enrique that has me quite certain of her Mafia nature.

We'll get there soon. Here's another really intriguing post she made along the way.

Lol last time someone called Luna out for not practicing what she was preaching she was bad

I don't necessarily suspect her for it here though. Only so much one can do :p

But we only have 4.5 hours so yeah who should we start grouping votes onto? I'd love to hear thoughts other than my own
In the above post this reads like a Mafia player latching on to a town made case. She is also exhibiting "the Russ" by casting doubt in both directions. This serves to pacify both Speechuck and Lunalee towards her at the same time. It's made even more genius by the fact that speedchuck wasn't even really explicitly suspecting lunalee, and nutella escalated it to that in a way to make it seem like speedchuck did. What you do here as mafia is go back and blame speedchuck when lunalee flips town. Not outright, but "speedchuck pointed out that she was being hypocritical and I agreed" is a good cover for raising a bad case.

You can see in the below post that DDL saw something samesuch in the post. He simplified it down to her use of the term "lol". I think he felt something else and struggled to quantify it. Speak to that for me DDL.

The way you start the sentence with "lol" before throwing shade at someone then saying you won't "necessarily" vote for them triggered my :eye: senses.
Come on you have played with me in the last year.
Moving on to where nutella starts to get a bit outrageous.
nutella wrote: Wed Jan 30, 2019 6:43 pm Your tripping sense. SVS is obvtown.

....or is that just the recency bias speaking
SVS might be civilian looking, but she is a damn good Mafia player. Read Buffy if you don't believe me. Nutella knows better than to make statements like this without TMI playing a part.
nutella wrote: Fri Feb 01, 2019 8:08 pm I may join the enri train, SVS had decent reasoning and his one last post felt weird/off to me
She's buddying SVS in this game.

It's ironic because TMI is what ultimately is gonna hang her.

The way nutella straightened her back and decided to try to play town leader at the end of the day reminded me of myself as Mafia so much that it damn near made me proud.

Step 1 - There's a wagon on a civvie who is making some really civvie sounding posts in a game where there's a damn good likelihood he's gonna get lynched anyway because apathy is the rule of the day.

Step 2 - Make posts like these.
nutella wrote: Fri Feb 01, 2019 9:22 pm Anyway I decided I believe enri's truth meta. Luna hasn't decided anything, and I know I shouldn't be one to criticize flipflopping but she seems to be fabricating thoughts on enri according to the whim of the thread.
nutella wrote: Fri Feb 01, 2019 9:57 pm @Epignosis @S~V~S @MacDougall @speedchuck please move your stupid damn votes plzkthx. preferably to luna she is suspicious af
Now she's got a new target. Probably another civilian. Though in a really damaged universe she might be fake bussing her scummate for real good wifom. Either way the agenda isn't really to get luna lynched. She wants Enrique to get lynched and flip civ so she can make this post. She has way TMI on Enrique for a start. The facts she has at her disposal should not cause her to get this aggressive in defending an unknown quantity. Enrique did not look that civilian.

Ultimately she got exactly what she wanted.
nutella wrote: Fri Feb 01, 2019 10:01 pm This is the second fucking stupid lynch in a row of a cool player who I would have liked to play with just because people are being fucking lazy
And she is laying it on real thick.

Her last second switch to G-Man was even more illogical. The progression of her day wasn't so much to stop Enri's lynch as it was her suspicion of lunalee. She went from "we should lynch luna she's bad" to "enri is so obviously town I'll help attempt to lynch another random person" in a way that can only be coming from a person hoping to win civ cred from defending a civilian.

This is stuff I do to a tee as Mafia. It's great Mafia play. You will see why when she picks apart all these points in extremely rational and sensible ways.

Don't get it twisted kids, she's dangerous here.

I see why you think I had TMI on Enrique. I didn't. I believed his truth claim. I know him pretty well and I was sure he was for real. I hated that people were voting for him for such stupid reasons. I really found Luna suspicious and if you reread her progression on Enrique I think you may agree. You are reading me wrong and I see where you are coming from but you are ascribing complete opposite intentions to everything I've done.

Also I won't pick apart your points in rational sensible ways because there was no long term motive behind anything I did. I had a lot of reactive in-the-moment things that you are way overanalyzing. I didn't want Enrique to get lynched. That's really as far as it gets.

M Plus 7 and sprityo failed to vote both Day 1 and Day 2. They also both have just two posts each. That's frustrating as heck with the game on the cusp of Day 3. We had time to deal with at least one of them, but I think we're stuck dealing with their collective absence now (barring replacement).

Anyone else see anything worth noting in these votes?

The police, paramedics, investigators, ceremony staff, and awards presenters decided to take a lunch break. The narrative wasn't making much sense, and it was starting to get rather exhausting. It was like someone was writing this stuff in short windows of time without a clear plan of what was going to happen in the story. Or someone else was controlling the writer from the future. A scream of horror from the ceremony chamber shook them from their immediate confusion and replaced it with concern. They rushed back inside to find two more presenters lying dead.

Under his bloodied body was found a stack of cue cards. They read in succession as follows:

The camera pans wide towards the stage as a mild round of applause reverberates through the arena. Prolific triple threat Will Smith sidles up to the podium.

"Thank you. Thank you. Our next award is for best host. The winner of this award is the person who is able to navigate the inevitable shitfuckery, bad sportsmanship and accusations of imbalance to still provide a great game experience for the three people who actually try."

The crowd explodes into laughter. Mr. Smith still has "it".

"This field was red hot this year but there could only be one winner."

Smith opens an envelope and pulls out a piece of paper.

"The winner is DharmaHelper!"

The crowd's response is hushed. PWC officials scurry around the stage area looking towards one another with confused and incredulous looks on their face. DharmaHelper approaches the stage with a huge grin on his face and his trademark swagger.

"Wait. Wait. I am so sorry. DharmaHelper you did not win this award."

DharmaHelper falls to the ground, heartbroken. The crowd explodes into a sea of panic.

Spoiler: show
"The winner is Epignosis!"

The camera locks on Epignosis, who has passed out in his seat.

"Oh that's a little embarrassing. Fortunately there are actually TWO WINNERS! Yup two winners."

DharmaHelper looks up from his prone position and ponderously surveys the svelte and sophisticated looking socialite.

Spoiler: show
"Dragon D. Luffy is also the winner!"

The crowd are beyond stunned. Not only was the award read wrong but there are in fact two winners after all. What shenanigans. What parlour games! What fun!

The camera panned to Dragon D. Luffy.

Many thanks to the host for the extra 24 hours. I would have been at a party in the hollers, where cell signal is a myth.

Since this game is still a relatively short read, I’m going to give a re-read another crack now that we can interpret two more players as civvie. I’ll try to plot out the votes in order too. I still hate the fact that our polls don’t track votes in the order they were cast. It makes vote analysis less reliable and vote analysis is what I’m best at.

Maybe you could fix that?

It's not just the "lol", it's the whole package of word usage. I'm going a little Epi here, but I believe he is right when he says people tend to put specific words to make their points feel weaker than they are, so they don't really take responsibility for it. Hence the adverbs thing.

Nutella wants to throw shade at people but she also wants to let us know she is not sure about it. Fine. But she colors it with "lol"s and emotes to mae it look more friendly than she should considering the fact she is, you know, throwing shade at people. There is a disconnect between the tone and the actions.

First sentence she opens with a friendly lol then attacks Luna on meta. Then second sentence she backs down, davalues her own post, and finishes it with a friendly emote. Then third sentence she passes the ball to other people and asks for a wagon. It could be the Luna wagon she just offered, it could be someone else.

I could see a civ doing everything I just described, especially a careful civ like nutella, but I could also see the baddie line of thought behind the whole thing. I think it applies to the rest of the case you build on nutella, too. That's why she is so hard to read, her civ and bad metas are similar.
