I just spent over an hour on the phone with Brett Kull of Echolyn. He talked to me about music and about growing up. Just a good conversation. He asked me to send him my music for technical criticism.
He was absolutely gracious. I had to end the conversation because he kept wanting to talk!
Kansas released a new album today for the first time in 16 years.

Jeff Mangum, the erstwhile Neutral Milk Hotel frontman, has released a series of drawings that prominently feature the letters "D O U B L E A L B U M" and the number 3, as in NMH's third album, and the number 17 which is presumably important for some other mysterious, possibly Anne Frank-related reason.
(This was written on the back of one of the drawings. Presumably a reference to "Aunt Eggma Blowtorch.")
If this is legit, I will make Neutral Milk Hotel Mafia into a thing.
(Sorry for the really big pictures.)
EDIT: (Thank you to whoever spoilered the images, I had a brain fart and forgot to do so myself.)

I would guess the numbers hint at a release date? maybe 3/17 for March 2017?

I disagree. I quite enjoyed it, more so on the second listen.
But then I'm hipster trash, what do I know

Cool. What did it inspire for you? I don't mind hipster, but a 30-minute release after a five years, that sounds about as rambling and intentionally experimental vague, not even sounding too well produced at that either, sprinkled with a bit of "lemme trash talk Beyonce a bit for selling herself out" pre-buzz, sounds a bit too bull for me, as a new artistic endeavour.

I don't have fancy reviewing words or analysis, I just enjoyed it. It sounded nice, definitely some parts more than others. I wouldn't say I was, like, super blown away as much as some fans apparently were, but it was nice.

I'm glad you didn't mind. My computer loads these threads really slowly due to the high amount of images and videos, so I like to cut the time down where/when I can.

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Kurt Cobain would have turned 50 today. That's a very weird thing to try to wrap my head around. Even if he hadn't killed himself at 27, I don't think he'd have made it to 50.

Gah! I go on a men's retreat and I miss the death of one of the architects of rock and roll! Good for him to live that long. There aren't many of the original pioneers left. He was going to release a new album this year. I wonder if he recorded the material for it yet.
Rest in peace, you handsome brown-eyed man.

I clicked on this thread hoping to see albums people were looking forward to. It's like a war memorial in here. Sheesh.
Any albums coming out that you guys are looking forward to?

He's still alive, but only just. He's not expected to make it through the day, but you have to at least believe that he won't back down.
