What's your problem Dom? Read the thread! It clearly says only 2 people can vote for each. Sheesh.

That's why I voted for the Gorvette guy. Duh.

Grading 50+ poorly written research papers really takes a toll on my sanity. And poorly written doesn't even begin to describe the horror :disappoint: Hence, mafia break.
What are the papers about?
Social problems, like drug abuse or racial profiling or teen pregnancy. Some are really good (some as in 5 out of almost 60). Most are adequate or just below par. Far too many are either atrociously written or blatantly plagiarized. And they've had four months to write and revise them.

I feel like my brain is leaking out of my ears. But I'm also done for the day. Thank goodness.
I was a writing tutor in college so I feel your pain. I sometimes wondered how people made it to college with the writing skills they had. I feel bad, but I'm just like you're in grad school somewhere along the line you must have learned how to write a proper paper??? haha

Can someone poke birdwithteeth11 and inform him that he is still sitting idle at the starting line?

Either way, we will be moving into Day 1 in a couple of hours.

This is a good question, Made; I too await the host's response.

I've only seen it as a role in two other games, and in both circumstances (my Super Meat Boy and llama's The Shining) it didn't get used. The way I intended it when I wrote it for SMB was for the whole day to restart, i.e., the player who died comes back to life and the whole lynch period is repeated, as if it never happened.

Lizzie's role works this way: The player says at any time during the Day, "I want to restart the Day." The Day ends at its regular time, and nothing happens. It is effectively a lynch stop, but another Day follows after it.

Day 1: And We’re Off!
Image
“Welcome back. This is Bob Cutlass and Darrell Cartrip broadcasting the World Grand Prix Opener. Twenty-two volunteers have chosen to be a part of one respected racing organization or another.”

“Bob, do those volunteers even know what’s in store for them if their racer wins?”

“I assume so, Darrell, but for the listeners at home, the racer who wins the World Grand Prix will have a team of partners that is considered victorious no matter what happens.”

“Even if, say, they’re both dead?”

“Even then, Darrell. The crew have a vested interest in seeing their racer win. Just for participating in Day polls, each duo can increase the chance that their racer emerges victorious, but activities at Night can have certain effects as well. While winning is mostly up to the contestant, the crew can help his star racer along the way. Now here we go.”

“There’s the green flag!”

“And they’re off. This will be the most amazing race in the history of the world. People all over will be-”

“Woah! Look at those explosions!”

“It appears someone has rigged the first stretch with explosives, but no one has been hurt. I wonder if the officials will cancel the event.”

“We can’t cancel the race- we’ve got sponsors!”

“Right you are Darrell. Maybe our brave volunteers are courageous enough to find out who had such bad intent.”

It is now Day 1. You have 48 hours to lynch someone.

Also, Made and I voted for the same car on Day 0, so I feel like we need to play similarly to each other.

K, meaningful discussion time, Any speculation on what the race cars are actually for?
We can assume it wasn't a poll as filler as only two people were allowed per choice

I presumed it is two each because a racing team consists of two drivers. How that affects the game I don't know.

I hope that zinger wasn't meant for me :P I'm kidding.

Personally, I don't get all the early voting. To me, all it does is garner reactions that are allowed to be humorous because no one can really take them serious, hence it helps the baddies blend it.

I don't either, frankly. I missed playing with you over here, FZ. :p

But it seems the trend in games anymore to have changeable votes (personally, I don't like them, but that's just my preference). I used changeable votes in Doctor Who, especially early on in the game, to vote the person that currently was highest on my :eye:, and whether I kept the vote on them was usually specified in my posts.

I don't feel comfortable ending the day period with my Rox vote, but I do think it was odd she was like "WTF with the early votes?" then turned around and made one herself. I just wanted to make her and others aware of that. It also is an easier way to start discussion; players are less apt to ignore suspicions if you've accompanied a vote with them.

I presume something better will come up and I'll change it, but if I don't or if I miss the vote, then at least I have a vote of some ping registered.

It's really a case of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em". Normally I would never vote this early, personally. Can't speak for why everyone else is voting the way they are.

Her response made me realize it was more of the dynamic between Rox and Llama specifically (a perspective I didn't consider when reading it the first time) and less to do with Rox placing her vote on someone she thought deserved the vote. And my vote reasoning felt more weak the more I thought about it.

Not sure I plan to vote early in future periods now. :p

Several reasons for that:

1) My PhD work pretty much dictates the bulk of my schedule, and the times where I am absolutely swamped versus mostly swamped and have some goof time come in waves.

2) Ever since Annie came to visit me and left a couple of weeks ago now, I had a whole week where I was out of commission, and subsequent to her leaving I was feeling sort of down which caused me to not be as enthusiastic about playing mafia as I would otherwise.

3) Due to 1 and 2, and other reasons, I wasn't feeling 100% engaged in Monopoly, Zelda, or the Teen Wolf KSite game.

4) The reason I am particularly active today is getting a lot accomplished over the past weekend and because I've been trying to write an essay for my seminar class -- and it's been nice to take breaks in between segments of writing.

Also, it takes a certain amount of time before I become properly engaged in a mafia game, and it's possible for me to even become engaged after a long period of being disengaged or become disengaged after a long period of being engaged, though the latter is less likely. If I feel I have been out of the loop of a game for too long, I feel it's harder to get my bearings.

As I've said in other games, my posting volume never really has anything to do with my alignment; it's pretty much always just outside factors interfering.

Now, regarding your last point, you raise an excellent argument, which is why I'm a bit wary of taking the early voting for granted myself. I feel players should take responsibility for their votes (also why I'm against randomizing).
