Omg what happened to Portugal, Buckaroo?

This actually worries me about Spain's performance.

Just an absolutely dreadful, horrible, uninspiring, boring, excruciating, annoying, pathetic, dullllllllllll game. Kinda regret taking a couple of hours off work to watch it.

My goal is to wake up early enough to catch an 8 AM game before this tournment is over.

Out of sheer curiosity, I looked up the top 32 teams per the FIFA rankings.
That's 20 from UEFA (Europe), 7 from CONMEBOL (South America), 3 from CONCACAF (North America), and 2 from CAF (Africa). That means the World Cup is being very charitable by allowing five AFC (Asia) nations to play. Even allotting five spots to CAF is generous. It wouldn't be as much of a World Cup without those guaranteed spots but I have to wonder about the quality of the 48-team structure proposed for 2026.

If this was purely skill based we'd have like 20+ euro teams, 4-5 SA ones, Mexico, and 2-3 Africans.

48 teams is going to be terrible.

They are killing the quality of their product just to increase its size.

Not sure why people didn't enjoy Portugal, Morocco - is it a sort of 'non-neutral observer' phenomenon? I thought Morocco played well and enjoyed watching them, never mind that Portugal wasn't great. That guy on the wing (Amrabat), he was good watching.

Have you seen the way they play? My dad says it's how Brazil used to.

African teams tend to have a pretty wild playstyle that suffers from not being organized. This one is fast and bold, but also well trained and organized. Not sure if it's enough to win but expect those guys to go far.

Poland was pretty great in their game and they were destroyed.

But I'm also rooting for Belgium as my semi-serious 'new winner' because they feel like the most likely candidate. Although Portugal, Senegal and Mexico all could be contenders, possibly.

I note that if Spain and Portugal both have the same result in their last group round, the tie breaker is number of cards. That's an interesting one.

It was horrible because I'm rooting for Portugal, and it was 90 minutes of them refusing to play football while Morocco pounded them relentlessly. Just excruciating.
