So I was right about Daisy!

It seems like we had about three bad teams I'm guessing?

I knew you were bad Epi. You know why? You didn't once suspect me. Come on man, you can call me as bad better than anyone else, so I knew you were off.

For those of you wondering how the game shaped, up, here's a look.

Civilians [3]

Lynch Survivor - G-Man (Pisces)
NK Survivor - Sloonei (Taurus)
First Kill Survivor - thellama73 (Sagittarius)

Mafia Team I [3]

First Kill Survivor - Quin (Pisces)
Vanilla - Epignosis (Virgo)
Vanilla - Sorsha (Cancer)

Mafia Team II [3]

First Kill Survivor - Bubbles (Taurus) Nerolunar (Aquarius)
Vanilla - S~V~S (Gemini)
Vanilla - sig (Cancer)

Mafia Team III [3]

First Kill Survivor - Spacedaisy (Taurus)
Vanilla - DrWilgy (Leo)
Vanilla - Bullzeye (Capricorn)

#####################################################################################################

Also, here is a list of all the personal win conditions. They were handed out depending on the player's sign. However, a player's sign did not dictate what team they were on.

Aquarius - You are an Aquarius. You are vulnerable and sensitive, and get aggrieved when someone wants to take advantage of you. At least once in the game, your vote at the end of the day must be on someone whose vote is also on you.

Cancer - You are a Cancer. You are loyal to those who are friendly to you, yet you also have difficulty trusting anyone. To overcome this, once in the game, you must exhibit trust in another player in the game thread, and follow that person's vote.

Capricorn - You are a Capricorn. You are ambitious and set high goals for yourself, enjoying making things more challenging for yourself. At the start of the game, you will name one person who you will try to lynch. That person must be lynched during the game.

Gemini - You are a Gemini. You sometimes see situations from a dual perspective and this can appear to others to be changeable and inconsistent. Once in the game, you must vote for someone who you have declared that you think is a civilian.

Leo - You are a Leo. You seek admiration and acknowledgement from others. Once in the game, you must make a case against and vote another player in the game, and gain the support of another player who agrees with your case, and/or votes for that player.

Pisces - You are a Pisces. You are versatile and independent. Once in the game, you must vote for four different people in a Day Phase, and make sure that at the end of the Day Phase no-one else is voting for the same person that you are.

Sagittarius - You are a Sagittarius. You seek adventure, and live with fortune on your side. Once in the game, you must finish a Day Period with at least one vote against you without being lynched.

Taurus - You are a Taurus. You are easy going and avoid unnecessary risk. Once in the game, you must survive a day phase without taking any votes.

Virgo - You are a Virgo. You seek perfection in all that you do. Once in the game, you must finish the Day Phase with your vote on a successfully lynched player from an opposing faction.

Yes indeed. I'm still surprised that you wound up being lynched on Day 2. That coupled with Sloonei attracting two nightkills on Night really threw a wrench in the civ's chances.

But the funny thing was, your Day 2 list of suspects was pretty accurate.

For those who weren't in the dead thread, my shenanigans were subtle. In honor of the twelve zodiac signs, I self-imposed a posting limitation. Each one of my posts in this thread contains exactly twelve words.

And now I will break with the 12-word shtick. I achieved my personal wincon Day 1 since that was going to be the best day to pull it off. That's about the only thing I have to feel good about with this game. :p

Gg pals. I am surprised I did as well as I did. I didn't receive a single vote at any point :feb:

Can someone explain how it ended though?

Did it come down to a coin toss or something? Since I wanted bullz dead and they clearly wanted Epi dead, and if both happened it would've been a draw between Daisy and I.

Also, I want to apologize to you players for running this setup under the Heist label. I submitted this game a while ago, back when we first started doing Heists here. I wasn't aware that the guidelines for Heists are actually supposed to be strict for this game type, and I became aware of this after the game had started. That was when there was some confusion among a few players as to why there were all these power roles cropping up. I apologize for lying about the roles in that regard. I know that a bulletproof counts as a power role, but I chose to adjust the definition to keep the game running and still somewhat intact. Yes there were more than 3 power roles. They were all roughly the same type, but still more than 3.

Thank you all for being patient with me on that. I hope you still had fun regadless.

Oh, good question!

So going into Day 5, it was only Spacedaisy and Epignosis left. Had they both been vanilla, the game would have ended in a tie, but because Spacedaisy still had her bulletproof survival intact, the Day 5 lynch was decided by a coin-flip. If Epignosis had won the flip, the game would have ended in a tie, and both teams would have won. If Spacedaisy won the flip, than her team wins outright.

Spacedaisy wound up winning the coinflip, thus her team won outright.

I don't see how this was a balanced game at all. Or Mafia.

This all boiled down to luck: Who got night killed.

And it all came down to a coin flip.

Might as well have played craps.

I hope lots of you enjoyed the game. It was certainly more than a little unorthodox, but we really wanted to give it a go, and from my perspective it was really fun to watch you all try your best to get to grips with it.

Congrats also to the winning team on all meeting your personal win cons... it was touch and go there for a bit.

I didn't understand it. What was the point of having civilians? They had no chance of winning.

I'm sorry if you don't like the game setup or didn't find it fun. We did our best to make the experience fun and fair for all, and I hope at least that most people did enjoy it. We certainly went for whimsy as a focus in preference to serious mafia. The game was always going to play out in confusion given the existence of three night kills and all the personal win cons that drove many of the lynch behaviours.

If I had know this game was going to be so crazy I would have signed up, I love radically unorthodox games. You get to see a particular kind of psychological chaos that you never get to see in regular games. You get to watch everyone desperately try to figure out what the hell is going on and no one ever does until the end. I love it. For more radically different games, visit https://rateyourmusic.com/board_message ... 20&start=0 since I'm on a roll for shameless self-promotion today. :P We need seven more players!

I would argue that Day 1 result would have a strong impact on the game. There was a 50 % chance that a mafia member would be lynched on Day 1, and a 50 % chance that nothing happens. Had a mafia been lynched, the other two mafia teams would be thinking a bit differently about their nightkills for Night 1, instead of targetting the most civilian player.

What we didn't acount for was how the civilians would use their role. G-Man knew he'd survive a lynch, so he tried to get lynched Day 1 to prove it. Sloonei knew he'd survive a nightkill, so he went hardcore civ mode to draw the opening nightkill to go into Day 2 with little damage. Unfortunately, Sloonei drew two nightkills, and G-Man wound up being lynched a second time somehow.

And my super-secret ulterior motive: This game gave me a peek at 9 different players' meta for when they're mafia. :mafia:

Me too. No-one believes it because I have played well as mafia. But I'd be fine being a townie every time.

Although I guess I wouldn't say 'really hate'. More like 'prefer' to be town.

I thought you did a good job seeming townie, Quin. If I was playing, I think I would have had you pegged as town.

Some of my favourite things in this game...

G-Man naming a set of six suspects who he was happy to lynch and every one being right... but even more so...

Daisy saying "I don't think that both G-Man and llama are civs" when they were literally the only two civs.

Interesting stuff, to say the least. Quite the spice up, in that the Hosts rather put everything they found in the cabinet. But everyone mostly seems to have enjoyed it nevertheless and that's what matters.

I make no claims to understand the form this game took or how it was intended to work in any particular direction or even to the equal odds of all factions involved, but I certainly don't think the Heist format favored it. A good reminder for Heists is that, depending on a faction's performance (i.e. whether the civs or the mafia happen to have a bad time overall), such games could be over in 4 or 5 cycles, tops. It's a really small space for elaborate win cons, lynch/NK pdd outcomes, heavy but undisclosed power roles, triple night kills and such.

If I would have played, a slightly irksome factor tbfh would have been the closed setup. The more "what the what" a game would reveal itself to be, the more it'd feel I had no real chance of getting a real grip on it whilst playing. Take for instance that the first chain of one-time survivors turned out to be civilians. That eventually led me, even as a spectator, to believe that one-time survival is a purely civilian trait. Then Nero, I think, died as the first one-time survivor mafioso and every simple rationale went to smoke.

There would be many other questionable details, but I see no point in taking it point by point.

I can only hope this won't create precedent for future Heists to be even stricter enforced. It's why I proposed the "And Now for Something (Slightly) Different" series, as a leeway for when someone feels like adding a bit of crazy or unprecedented into the mix.

Well G-Man basically had an 18% chance to be wrong about calling anyone scum, apparently.

Daisy saying she finds G-Man and Llama to be civs would have been impressive, on the other hand. Stolen from the MP guessbook, even.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I was willing to get lynched to prove I could survive a lynch. I was just willing to take the chance on a con flip exposing me so I could fulfill my personal wincon of voting for four different people during the same day and ending as the solo vote on one person.

We would have needed the baddie teams to pick each other apart through both the lynches and the NK's. It wasn't impossible for we civvies to win, just improbable. I don't mind the chaotic setup though. It was fun even though I lost. There's no shame in losing against such unfriendly odds.

I had fun too, I don't want any confusion about that. But it was disheartening to learn how little chance I had of actually winning this game (I did fulfill my individual win condition with ease, though!)

The first five kills could all have hit mafia and we still would have been outnumbered.
