Hello All. I am sorry I have not been here. I didn't know it was my turn. I thought I was third in line for volunteering. I will get on those questions right away :)

Mongoose wrote:Eloh, how did you get into baking? Are you self-taught or did you take classes or maybe a family member learnt ya up?

My book club has read some "philosophy" about baking being used as a positive coping mechanism or creative outlet, just like others might use painting or cardio. Do you find baking is a cathartic release for you or does it become more of a chore?

Is the term "Baker's Dozen" still relevant in today's times?
A few year ago my brother turned 16 and my mom and I planned a surprise party for him. It was a red carpet themed party and I wanted to make him a special cake. I used a box mix and tubs if Pillsbury frosting to make the thing, but I was so proud of myself :) Before that I never did much baking. I've always been on the creative side though and for my first time I thought I did pretty okay. I fell in love with cake decorating. I never took any formal classes, but I watched a lot of youtube tutorials for making and rolling out fondant, making and using modeling chocolate, etc.

Cake decorating is great for me. I have always been into creative things such as scrapbooking and painting but I am a minimalist and hate clutter. Cake decorating is a way for me to be creative all the time, but then my projects are eaten and gone :). I don't have a house full of cakes like I would have a house full of canvases if I had taken up painting :p.

Cake decorating is often therapeutic. It can also become tedious at times depending on the design and it becomes chaotic when I have taken on more than I should.

I am not too sure if the term "baker's dozen" is still relevant in bakeries or donut shops, but it isn't relevant for Little Miss Cakes.

Thanks for the questions Mongoose!

A Person wrote:what's it like being married to an internationally known prog rocker?
Well, I don't think his international fame has much to do with what it is like to be married to him. However, when we first began dating, I thought it would be amazing to be married to someone who plays the guitar. I thought I would be serenaded all the time :) I quickly found out (and this was before marriage) that I would mostly be listening to riffs and shreds instead.

I used to need a solid eight hours to function. Now I am okay as long as I get 6 hours and it doesn't have to be straight through. Simon woke in the middle of the night until he was 4. Abigail thankfully has slept through the night since she was 7 months old. Ephraim still crawls into bed with me at around 3pm and wakes every hour and a half until time to wake up. He is still a big fan of the boobies during that time :p. I look forward to the nights when all my kids sleep in their own beds all night long but I find I still love nighttime snuggles with my littlest one.

It is so hard to choose one. This is my most recent cake and I really liked making it :)

And I will share one more I really liked.

@ A Person - Decorating a cake is more difficult/time consuming than it looks I think. The reason I think this is because many of my potential customers are surprised that the price is usually in the $50-$100 range. :D

Eloh, would you ever consider making your own cake instructional videos?

Do you ever use the word "caking" as a verb?

Now some non-cake questions. What kind of music do you like? Do you play any instruments? You seem like you would have a good singing voice. Confirm/deny?

What was your favorite subject in school?

What kind of outdoorsy things do you like to do?

Do you have any catchphrase(s)?

What's your favorite flower?

Mongoose wrote:Eloh, would you ever consider making your own cake instructional videos?

I don't see a need to. There are so many instructional videos out there. Maybe if I was getting paid to do it :) haha

Do you ever use the word "caking" as a verb?

No, but I have used the word "cakery" as I don't run a full bakery.

Now some non-cake questions. What kind of music do you like? Do you play any instruments? You seem like you would have a good singing voice. Confirm/deny?

I like mainly folk (Nora Jones is my favorite), late 90's pop and rock. I do NOT like Rush or Yes :p

What was your favorite subject in school?

Honestly, interior design :) I know...I am not as scholarly as many of you on this site. But I took three years of interior design in HS. Me and a few other girls even painted a mural in the preschool classroom at our HS and the mural is still there today (about 15 years later). If you are wondering why there was a preschool classroom in our HS, I'll explain. We had a preschool at our HS. It was open to the public and the Early Childhood Education students played a part in teaching the preschoolers. (I was in that class as well, haha). Actually, that reminds me of another class I took in HS that I may have enjoyed better than Interior Design. It was a class where the students were assigned to work in one of the offices at the school. I worked in the attendance office. It was my senior year and after collecting all the daily attendance sheets I would often check myself out of school and go home early :D. I promise I was not as much of a slacker as I sound. I did well enough in school to earn 75% bright futures. Mongoose, you may know what that is.

What kind of outdoorsy things do you like to do?

I love the beach/pool. I love to swim. Hiking is fun. Camping WAS fun until I got too old to sleep comfortably on the ground.

Do you have any catchphrase(s)?

"Just give me two seconds" "Oh Lordy" "boo"

What's your favorite flower?

Orchid

Are you sure? Have you checked recently? ;)

Yes, recently an often :p

What kind of flour do you use when baking cakes?

All purpose.
Here is my vanilla cake recipe (the most popular) :) 2 sticks of softened butter, 4 eggs, 2 cups sugar. Cream them together. 3 cups flour, heaping tablespoon of baking powder, and one box of french vanilla Jello pudding mix. Mix dry ingredients well. Then, mix the dry mix into the wet mix with 1 cup of milk. I know it may be cheating to use a jello pudding mix in my cake but it tastes so good. And if it tastes so goo, why not?
Here is my Cream cheese frosting recipe (most popular). 1 stick of butter and 4 oz of cream cheese spread, softened. Mix these with 2 tsp of vanilla extract. Slowly add/mix 3 cups of powdered sugar until it has the consistency of frosting :) That simple!

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Chicken. I'm one of those that believe the Bible's story of creation. I think God would have made everything in its complete state as he did Adam and Eve.

Would you ever want to be put in the same room as llama? And then have door locked and the key thrown away?

Hmm..although we don't have much in common, we could at least talk about politics for a long while :D I think he would be more tortured in that situation than I.

What is Norah?

A singer? Not sure what you're looking for here :p

If you were to become an American ambassador for another country, which would you pick?

Hmm...I have never really traveled much and so I don't know much about other countries first hand. But I think I would have to pick Italy.

Do you like birds? What's your favorite kind?

I'm pretty neutral about birds. I think owls would be my favorite if I had to pick.

Do you drink coffee? How do you have it if you do?

Blech, no. When I was younger, first married, and had no kids Epi and I would get up really early when we would travel to FL from NC. I used to put a packet of hot chocolate in a cup of coffee so I could stay awake to drive. It was still disgusting and it gave me the jitters. I mainly drink water and watered down 100% juice. You know I am not a drinker of anything strong if straight juice is too strong for me :)

Do you prefer J. K. Rowling's or J. R. R. Tolkien's writings?

Definitely J. R. R. Tolkien's writings.

Do you prefer hot summers or cold winters?

Hot summers. I was born and raised in Orlando, about 40 minutes from the beach and I always LOVED to swim.

Can you can-can?

Sadly, I have never tried. But I would like to think I could :D

What is your favorite type of facial hair on a man's face?

It depends on the guy. ;) Epi looks best with no facial hair at all.

What is your favorite hairstyle on a woman's head?

Long layers.

Do you know all of the US presidents? In chronological order?

No :(

What is Rush or Yes?

horrible, headache inducing music

What is your favorite large city to visit?

I've only visited two big cities, Atlanta and DC. I would have to say DC was much better.

Do you like being interrogated?

Here, yes. By my husband, no.

Do you like apples or bananas better?

I think I like them about the same. They are both great on their own. Apples are great for a cake filling or for apple pie and bananas are great for banana nut bread (one of my favorites) and great in smoothies.

Do you watch solar eclipses when they happen?

I have once.

Would you rather be buried 6 feet under or cremated?

Cremated for sure. I do not want to take up space on this earth. It's kin-of morbid IMO.

Zombies? Are they real?

No sir.

Do you consider yourself a religious person of any affiliation?

Yes. I am a Bible believing follower of Jesus Christ. I believe he is the son of God and that his death on the cross and resurrection secured our place with God (our creator) which was destroyed by our sin. I believe that the Bible should be read with it's culture in mind. For example, I do not believe there are demons who run a muck on this earth. I believe the source of sin is ourselves. I think the people in the Bible and those who wrote the Bible described insanity as demon posession b/c it is what made sense to them. I think God works within the realm of science and not outside of it. After all, he created it.

Would you believe me if I told you that I'd had a couple drinks?

Um...sure. Although I personally don't drink. And it isn't b/c of my religious beliefs. It is because I am a type A personality and cannot stand to be out of control or myself :p I hate the feeling you get from alcohol and can't understand why anyone does like it. But, to each his own.

What's your favorite movie with Dick Van Dyke?

Even though there are boring parts (EPI), I have to say Mary Poppins.

Can you whistle? Snap your fingers? Fart with your armpit? Cup your hands together and blow, and make a soothing noise come out?

I cannot whistle. I can snap my fingers. I cannot fat with my armpit. And, I am not sure how to do the last one. (I do believe you have have a good bit to drink now :p) I can also roll my tongue to look like a flower. All my sisters can do it too.

I'm tired. :offtobed:

Night! :)

Hey guys, you have a new target for interrogation. His name is Mister Rearranger!

I will go first:

What are your favorite things to rearrange?
Do you prefer to arrange things alphabetically, or by some other criteria such as color or genre?
You are a Mister now, but would you ever want a different title like Doctor, Professor, or even Mrs.?
What's the longest amount of time you've ever spent rearranging something?
Do you wish I would ask you something not related to your username?

Do you have any hobbies? What are they?
What kind of music do you listen to?
Who makes up your immediate family?
Are you in school? What for?
Do you work? What do you do?
If you could have any kind of birthday cake, what would it be?

Not "favorite", per say, but the most common is my mindset/viewpoint.
Do you prefer to arrange things alphabetically, or by some other criteria such as color or genre?
I'm very alphabetical when I organize.
You are a Mister now, but would you ever want a different title like Doctor, Professor, or even Mrs.?
Sometimes I miss being "Mighty", but all things must pass.
What's the longest amount of time you've ever spent rearranging something?
Some things are always being rearranged, life is an eternal wellspring of restructuring.

Philly wraps with chicken are my constant. :) I also dig fancy pasta dishes or scallops once in a while.

Cookie dough, I think.
Do you have any hobbies? What are they?
I enjoy concertgoing, I used to play music (though not as much anymore), and I love all-around adventuring in general.
What kind of music do you listen to?
I'm into vintage blues and soul the most, though I listen to a ton of other stuff: jam bands, hip-hop, funk, folk/bluegrass, prog, etc...
Who makes up your immediate family?
I've got both of my parents, though I get along with my father better than my mom or anyone on her side. And then there's my younger sis, a dog, and my two cats.
Are you in school? What for?
Not anymore. I went for a while, then decided to adventure and pursue some dreams.
Do you work? What do you do?
Yup, I do engineering work/tech stuff at a tv station. Good times. :)
If you could have any kind of birthday cake, what would it be?

1. I don't really do comfort food actually...
2. The redwood forest or England. :)
3. Beatles George song - It's All Too Much; solo George song - Let It Down (this was a tough choice though)
4. Probably my role in my second game, I was Merry in PennyHume's LotR mafia. And it was a role that overheard BTSC but did not know who was speaking.
5. I really enjoyed playing AHS, the team was epic and we played such a bold game and had so much fun! My favorite game I hosted is still Firefly mafia, which was my first game I ever hosted. And it just went so much better than I could have even planned. Super fun.
6. Sleep in, lay around, watch TV.
7. I Have alWays wanted to try cooking Korean food, but I've never gotten around to figuring it out.
