I think the problem is that "they" is becoming common for unknown third person singular, but it still 'feels' plural. I didn't answer this originally, because I don't have any reason to vote anyone other than if they don't like their role. There are no baddies. There aren't even really teams right now as we can probably all expect to be on different teams as the game progresses. Yeah, I've been wondering that as well. It could be based on which roles die (much more variable, but presents problems if certain players die way more often) or just a set progression. Or it could be random, like "first 5 deaths, one of these 5 roles. Next 5, one of these." Etc.
