What is the prevailing wisdom here in regards to how this occurs mechanically? It has me quite confused? Like if it isn't necessary can they all just stay 3p and thus leave us with one single wolf?

Locked is a strong word, but when wagons have this many votes on them they usually don't completely vanish. The fact is that there will be wagon momentum up and down on both Tutuu and I for the rest of the day hence we are both locked into being wagons or at least analysed as having wagons on us.
