That doesn’t seem like effective deescalation
It was meant for that. Maybe I still need to make progress in my social skills, but I would have said something a lot meaner in the past, so hey at least I didn't do that.

I mean threatening someone doesn’t usually deescalate a situation, telling someone “stop being rude or you’ll be killed” isn’t going to make most people respond with “you know what, you’re right, I’m so sorry!”

It’s more likely to make people double down and escalate things more

@LordQuas i don't want to keep talking to you about this. it seems like you understand in the first post that i was asking for explanation. can we just skip forward to the part where you agree that the goal of asking for an explanation is to receive an explanation? and that finding out that an unsatisfactory explanation had been given previously, doesn't change that?

regardless, i'm done with this topic, it's not adding creating anything positive.

Humans are weird. I've always felt letting people know the stance you feel toward their behavior and telling them the consequences they would face if they continue is good.

This is not a topic for a mafia game, but I don't think I can tell the difference between informing someone of consequences and how people see that as a threat.

it was a little weird

but to be fair it sort of shocked me into realizing that even if i wasn't trying to escalate, i wasn't really doing well at deescalating.

If it is, I wonder if threats are as bad as they are treated is all.

In my history hosts of games or mods of forums have always talked to me like that. "If you continue that behavior you will be removed from said game" "You will be banned if this continues"

Again not something I wish to continue ITT, but I used the phrasing I did since others have said it to me a lot in the past and there seemed to be no issue.

This is the definition of a threat

a statement of an intention to inflict pain, injury, damage, or other hostile action on someone in retribution for something done or not done.

Threats aren’t necessarily bad, and what you’re describing wrt mods is probably a warning more than a threat (there’s probably no hostile intent), but yeah, telling a fellow player in a mafia game “if you keep doing X I’ll kill you” is definitely a threat lol

I HATED the snape story, he’s not a good person and I didn’t find his story compelling, just contrived and slimy. I didn’t feel empathy for him, I mostly felt some mix of pity and disgust.

I didn't know a lot of other people preferred Prisoner of Azkaban. For me it was the first time in the series that it felt dangerous and that Harry was under real threat.
