The first in a series of six TV sitcom themed games hosted by yours truly

A game for 15 players

This game will be the first in a series of six (6) TV sitcom themed Heist games that I will be hosting over a long period of time.

The themes are as follows: Futurama, Seinfeld, Friends, Parks and Recreation, Scrubs, and Malcolm in the Middle.

At the end of each TV sitcom game, players and non-players will vote on which one I will next submit to the Heist queue; the entry with the most votes will win.

All TV sitcom games are closed setup, with role outing and infodumping permitted and encouraged.

Following JJJ's Arrested Development Mafia, all TV sitcom games will be U-Pick. Before the start of the game, every player will PM me a list of five characters from Futurama they would like to be; if they fail to do so, their character will be selected by the host or MoD.

Roleplaying is heavily encouraged. At the end of the game, I will be presenting an award for Best Roleplay in addition to MVP.

Some of these games may employ sockpuppets. I am employing them for this first game, so everyone will post as their Futurama character. Depending on how that progresses, as well as player demand, the other games in the series may or may not feature sockpuppets in lieu of regular accounts.

Inspired by Thingyman's Matrix 12 setup for the Mafia Championship Season 3 on Mafia Universe, I have developed my own TV Sitcom Matrix (nicknamed the "What-If Machine" after the device in Futurama) for this series of games. Each game will use one (1) of the following setups, chosen randomly at the start of the game. The setup will not be revealed during the game.

TV Sitcom Mafia Matrix (What-If Machine)
A
B
C
D
1
Town Cop
Mafia Jack of All Trades
Town Miller
Vanilla Townie
2
Mafia Jack of All Trades
1-Shot Town Vigilante
Vanilla Townie
Town Jailkeeper
3
Town Masons (2)
Vanilla Townie
Mafia Godfather
Town Cop (Odd nights)
4
Vanilla Townie
Town Sick Innocent Child (d1-4 reveal)
Town Cop w/ n0 town check
1-Shot Mafia Vigilante
Thus, there are 8 possible setups: 1, 2, 3, 4, A, B, C, and D.

Each setup specifies only 4 roles, so the remaining 11 roles will always be split between 9 vanilla townies and 2 mafia goons.

Each setup has exactly 3 power roles, since that is the maximum per Heist rules.

Role Index:

1-Shot Town Vigilante - During one night of this player's choice, he or she may night kill any one player. One-time use.
Town Cop - Every night, this player selects a player of his or her choice to ID (alignment check).
Town Cop (Odd nights) - Every odd night, this player selects a player of his or her choice to ID (alignment check).
Town Cop w/ n0 town check - This player receives an alignment check on a randomly selected town player to start the game. Every night, this player selects a player of his or her choice to ID (alignment check).
Town Sick Innocent Child (d1-4 reveal) - This role will be confirmed by the host to be town publicly at the start of either day 1, 2, 3, or 4. However, that player will die at the start of the following day. At the start of the game, the host will randomize which of the four days will apply to the game; the role will be unaware of which day has been selected.
Town Jailkeeper - Every night, this player selects a player of his or her choice to both protect from all night kills and role block.
Town Masons (2) - These two roles have BTSC and may communicate privately outside of the game thread.
Town Miller - If targeted with an ID (alignment) check, this player will appear as mafia.
Vanilla Townie - This player has no role power.
1-Shot Mafia Vigilante - During one night of this player's choice, he or she may night kill any one player. One-time use.
Mafia Godfather - If targeted with an ID (alignment) check, this player will appear as town.
Mafia Goon - This player has no role power.
Mafia Jack of All Trades - This player has three one-time use role abilities; however, these abilities will differ based on the setup randomized. The abilities could be any of the following combinations.
Setup A: 1-shot roleblock, 1-shot silence, and 1-shot frame (targeted townie will appear mafia if ID'd by the cop that night).
Setup B: 1-shot roleblock, 1-shot protection, and 1-shot role cop.
Setup 1: 1-shot roleblock, 1-shot role cop, and 1-shot frame (targeted townie will appear mafia if ID'd by the cop that night).
Setup 2: 1-shot night kill, 1-shot role cop, and 1-shot silence.

First off, I want to thank JaggedJimmyJay and his incredible, meticulous mafia game balancing skills, as I consulted him multiple times in developing my matrix to make sure every possible setup was as balanced as possible.

To elaborate further on why I chose these six shows, they all qualify as my all-time favorite TV shows. In that list I would also include The Office, The Simpsons, and Arrested Development, and would have considered including incorporating any of those into my series, but the first is a full game to be hosted by Dom, the second is a full game unofficially in progress by Epignosis and nijuukyugou (and I absolutely must play Simpsons Mafia rather than host it), and the third was a heist already hosted by JaggedJimmyJay (and a source of inspiration for this series). Of course, six is plenty already and I didn't want to do more than that, so it worked out. :P

Feedback is welcome and appreciated, especially since I'm still a newbie to this matrix stuff myself, but nonetheless I feel confident that this will be a blast and I'm really excited to see how the setup plays out for this game (and subsequent games in the series). I also am excited about presenting the option to let you all dictate which themes are next; it should be interesting to see which one will be hosted by me next in line. Lastly, of course the themes are all excellent, and I highly anticipate the roleplaying.

Someone must be Zoidberg, end of story.

I too am an automatic /in for Simpsons mafia, whenever that is. And you can almost definitely count me in for this one as well.

Rick Oché! \o/

I thought there was a Parks and Rec game prepared by bea, but apparently not anymore? :confused2:

My six-pack of sitcoms, of those not planned already as games*, would include That 70s Show, Everybody Loves Raymond, Married... with Children, 30 Rock, Veep (or, even better, The Thick of It) and Seinfeld (*I lied). Those may, in fact, be among the only few sitcoms I ever payed attention to. I watch way more drama.

Hmm... you know what, nobody touch That 70s Show, I might think of something.

From this series, I could see myself wanting to play Seinfeld or Parks and Rec. Although the former would have way too much roleplay value for me to handle it. Serenity now!

Will you be repeating your performance as Zapp Brannigan or choosing someone different this time? :D

Regarding the Parks and Recreation game by bea, as far as I was ever aware it was a very vague plan to host the game with BDH, but never materialized in anything concrete. If she wants me to step off as to not steal her thunder, I'll oblige, but otherwise it seemed up in the air, and we as a community can only go so long without Parks and Rec Mafia. It needs to happen.

I considered Everybody Loves Raymond, as well as 3rd Rock from the Sun, but in the end decided against both of them. They're both great shows, but they're a bit more inconsistent in terms of enjoyment for my taste when compared to the ones I listed, but that's just my perception.

I know; I really can't wait for the Seinfeld one. The roleplaying potential in all of them really is just ridiculous. It's going to be awesome.

I've been binging the entire Seinfeld series over the last couple weeks and would roleplay so hard in that game. I hate laugh tracks with a burning passion, and that might be the only show I can take with them.

Actually RYM#24 was Seinfeld, and it was my first scum game ever (bussed my whole team to win ;)). I was Kramer with Jackie Chiles as a fake character.

I never was a fan of laugh tracks either, but I cannot possibly care when watching Seinfeld; even though I was late to the party (just binged it less than year ago myself), it's considered legendary comedy for a reason.

Oh right, 3rd Rock. Forgot about that one. Yeah, that one wasn't always on game, but I thought Raymond was pretty strong, whatever it rehashed.

linki: I vowed to stay away from watching Seinfeld again, until I get someone new in my life to watch it again with. Like, a cat.

Aren't laugh tracks mostly everywhere, though, except for really mocku / deadpan recent stuff? I'm not affected by them, anyway, because of how hard it is to get me to laugh, anyway. Except if it's one from my sixpack.

Malcolm in the Middle didn't have a laugh track. :srsnod:

Anyway, for Parks and Rec, I'd sign up as quickly as possible and request Ron Swanson, so I can make llama jelly. :p

linki: Must be why I never saw it. :shrug2:

You're missing out, it was a really great show. The whole cast is excellent, but I first saw a glimmer of Cranston's genius in that show. It's fun to contrast his characters between Malcolm and BB as well. :p

I am conflicted on my eventual character choice. Part of me wants to reprise my role as Zapp Brannigan from an old RYM game, another part of me wants to be a member of the Robot Mafia.
