Day O: Jean Genie

The Jean Genie is coming. He's coming. Where will he be?

"I want to find the Jean Genie!" Llama said.

"Shouldn't we tell bea?" asked Elohcin.

They walked into a clearing filled with singing, furry animals. They instantly knew whose brain they had stumbled into.

"This is more twee than I am accustomed to dealing with, frankly," said INH, always a good sport.

"Let's sit down and see if there's a show," said A Person, helpful as always.

There was a show indeed:

"Now I KNOW we need to find the Jean Genie," said Metalmarsh89.

"Yeah, but WHERE is he?" said Made.

Good question. So where's the Jean Genie?

Gene Wilder Genie is all I care about, but I am going to boldly slam a vote down on The Original Arizona, and I'll tell you why.

Jordache Nation-state sounds like it might be ruled by a tyrannical despot commanding an army of obedient thugs in full denim military uniforms. L.E.I. Pavilion sounds like a nice place for a light brunch, and that's not what I'm all about. Levi-Strauss Space Station sounds totally awesome, but I think that will be the most popular, and I want to buck the trend.

Obviously, that leaves The Original Arizona. That sounds just cool enough, a place where men can be men, and I can probably wear a cowboy hat.

Um, also, felt pun.

I felt like I'd be disappointing everyone if I didn't weave a textile pun into my check-in but I'm sure this close-knit group of players will forgive me.

Hey Mongoose!

Do Jhorts effectively block any action, or just night actions? Like, can it affect Designer and Skinny Jeans' lynch affectations?

How does one unstrap overalls? (don't say "very carefully", I swear to god llama)

What maniac invented a denim suit and which mental facility do they frequent?

The OP says there are 4 baddies, but it says the civs need the mafia dead to win. Are all the "baddies" mafia? Are overalls on the same team as the other 3?

'Baddie' and 'Mafia' are commonly used synonymously here. I'm not sure what answer Scotty was expecting. It seems like a question for the sake of asking a question, rather than a question for the sake of learning.

I'd talk more, but my cat is on my keyboard. She does not appreciate my posting right now. I'll go to bed shortly.

No. I find it odd that the mafia have the potential for two kills every night if all 4 are mafia. Don't you?

I've considered this Scotty thing. I've pondered it for minutes upon minutes.

The "baddies" faction has a "(4)" attached to it in the OP, strongly suggesting that those four roles are tied together as a single team which opposes the civilian faction (which I think is typo'd in the numbers, should be (12) and not (13). This is probably speaking the obvious, though I'll give way should Mongoose decide to clarify.

So I think the answer to Scotty's question is obvious. I don't really mind that he asked a question with an obvious answer. If his motive for doing so is nefarious, that implies he intentionally asked an obvious question (with an answer he'd already know being a member of the baddie team) with the intention of "derp clearing" himself -- making himself look civilian by virtue of not knowing the structure of the baddie team.

I think that sort of thing is talked about often in games, but it actually happens much less frequently. I'd say it's more likely that he asked the question because for whatever reason he isn't sure of the answer. That he cares at all implies that he had a special interest in the specifics of the civilian win condition. So, decent little Day 0 look.

Scotty wrote:No. I find it odd that the mafia have the potential for two kills every night if all 4 are mafia. Don't you?
That wasn't my interpretation. I thought the mafia team's sole killer was the dude with the straps -- that roll kills every night as long as both straps are intact. My first guess is that this means this role must be destroyed twice (once for each strap).

Mongoose, if you're able to clarify anything about this that'd be swell. If not, okee dokee.

That it is obvious to you does not mean that it is obvious to the rest of the world.

I'm speculating on the balance of the game. I trust that it is balanced, but I'm confused as to what the balance is, and especially what Mongolia can answer in regards to the overalls thing. Mafia having the potential for 2 kills seems...like it needs an equal counter from the civs...or else it's pretty indie.

I've been wrong before about plenty of things I thought were obvious, so I don't fault you for asking the question. The straps role is atypical.

I have a follow up question for @Mongoose if what you assume is true:

If overalls are called, do they then gain the ability to kill every night without fail? Is that ability passed on in any capacity?
