GENERAL RULES Each player is playing a game of Monopoly within a game of MAFIA and just like Monopoly, there might be some swingy occurrences with added experimental design elements; players will roll two dice in their private discord channel every day phase to move their player piece around the board. And just like Monopoly, you can just roll dice and not pay attention to rules or strategy- that is your prerogative- but this game of monopoly has different rules that you might want to read.
Players are still voting during the day for who they think is trying to take advantage of their capitalist dreams.
GAME DESIGN:
Mostly Open Setup
48/24hr Day/Night phases
There may or may not be 3rd parties
The host will never lie to you- if you receive information from me, it is true
All deaths will result in an alignment flip
Thread will be locked at night
On Night 0, all players will select a game piece: each comes with unique abilities and limited shots. These abilities will neither be revealed publicly (even on death) nor have any bearing on alignment
Players roll dice in their private discord channel every day phase to move their player piece around the board
Claiming is ALLOWED, just don’t post actual pictures or copy word-for-word messages sent via the host
VOTING, POSTING AND ACTIONS:
The player with the greatest total votes each day phase will become bankrupt
Voting in the thread is not mandatory, but it is good etiquette. I will follow the poll above all else.
Votes are changeable
Ties will be randomized
Self voting does not count
There will always be a Sleep option
Please post at least once a day. If you do not post, I will be forced to look out for a replacement. If there is no replacement available, I will not hesitate to modkill
If you do not vote in a phase, you will receive +1 vote in the next phase. This is cumulative. Please participate.
Abilities/Actions are due 1 HOUR before End of Phase
No Angleshooting. We all know what straight-up cheating looks like (posting screenshots of host communications, illegal BTSC, etc). I don't care for anything that even remotely resembles cheating.

MONOPOLY RULES:
This game of Monopoly works slightly differently than the real game:
All players start with $250, and will be rolling 2d8 by default in the first 23 hours of every day in their private channel. Players’ results are publicly resolved at the 24 hour mark. If a player gets doubles, they will also roll again in the second 23 hour mark, to resolve at end of day.
If a player does NOT show up to manually make their roll in the first 23 hours, I will force a roll, and if they land on an unclaimed property, it will be automatically auctioned. Otherwise, spaces that produce a result with a choice will proceed as normal.
In this game of monopoly, if a player gets doubles TWICE in a row, they go directly to jail.
Money totals are NOT PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE. Players can lie or tell the truth if asked, but only they know their true total, which will be updated in their private channel at end of cycles.
Players can land on Properties, Chance/Community Chest, Taxes and the Free Parking/Jail spaces like in regular monopoly, as well as trade with other players.
Trading can be discussed in the thread and must be mutually agreed upon by both parties @ing me with their decision. YOU MAY ONLY TRADE WITHIN THE MONOPOLY SUBGAME, meaning owned properties, money and/or Chance/Community Chest cards. ‘Future passes’ are not allowed; verbal agreements of gentlemen’s bargains will not be enforced by the host, so trade at your own risk.
When a player lands on an unclaimed property, they have two options:
-PURCHASE
-AUCTION
PURCHASE:
Players must message in their personal chat whether or not they intend to purchase at full value or auction the property NO LATER than the 24 hour mark after landing on the space.
-If a player intends to purchase, they will say so and the required amount will be deducted from their personal bank unless the property is contested*
-The first time a player purchases a property, they will have the option to name it…otherwise it will be a placeholder color/type and number (ie Yellow2). Name it whatever you want.
SILENT AUCTION: *If and when players roll identically in a 24-hour period and land on an unclaimed property and multiple people choose to purchase, it goes into SILENT AUCTION for the next 23 hours. Only the players at that location may participate; each must wager silently a bid to be paid IN ADDITION TO to the purchase price for the property in their private chat with highest bidder being announced at end of day. There is no minimum for this bid, but you may not bid above your coffer. (In the case of a tie bid, tie goes to the player that rolled first)
AUCTION:
After players have resolved the Purchase/Silent Auctions, any properties that have been put up for auction becomes available for anyone willing to bid.
-If a player intends to auction, the property will be announced IN DISCORD as up for auction in the Auction channel, and all players may post their bid in that channel (every bid must be at least $1 higher than the last public bid, with a minimum of a $1 bid) and the property will go to the highest bidder 1 HOUR BEFORE END OF DAY, provided they still have money in their coffers.
-If a player has bid above their coffers, they will only retain the highest-bid property/properties before going over. I will always cede to the highest bid for a property unless that player can’t afford it.
For example:
Player A bids $50 for Water Works, and $35 for Electric Company with $60 in their coffer.
Player B bids $45 for Water Works, and $30 for Electric Company with $75 in their coffer.
The property with the highest bid on the day is Water Works. Because Player A bid more, they win Water Works. However, this results in Player A not having enough money for Electric Company, thus resulting in Player B taking it with the next highest bid of $30.
If a player neither has money left nor bids for a property up for auction, that property does not get auctioned that round.
If a property goes into auction at end of day due to doubles or other reasons, the auction will take place at night. NOTE: The Auction channel is not to be used to post any content other than bids. Non-bidding conversations will be penalized.
PAYING RENT:
If a player lands on an already-owned property, they must pay the rent shown on the board. This rent is doubled if a player has a monopoly of that block of colors. If they cannot pay the rent, they go bankrupt, and they will die of destitution at end of day.
Their vote will still count towards the day poll as normal even if they are slated to die.
There is no way to mortgage in this game.
There are no houses or hotels in this game- there is only a bonus for owning a monopoly.
When multiple players land on the same space the turn it becomes purchased, they must pay the resulting rent.
BOARD SPACES:
Community Chest/Chance:
If a player lands on Community Chest or Chance, their card will be read aloud at the 24 hour mark in a host post. These cards can vary in benefits and pentalties- most DO benefit.
Free Parking:
If a player lands on Free Parking, they will be IMMUNE from the elimination that day. {This ability is nullified if the game is in LYLO/MYLO.}
Tax Spaces:
If a player lands on the tax spaces, they will be slightly insanified with their posts the rest of phase as their tax.
Jail:
If a player is sent to jail, they are essentially blocked from using actions and being targeted by actions for the following night while there.
On their next movement turn, they may spend $50 {during the following day} to pay bail and roll, or attempt to roll doubles and escape jail. Without paying, rolling doubles (or a Get out of Jail card) are the only ways to get out. If a player rolls TWO CYCLES without getting doubles, they must pay $50 and move using the second roll. If they can’t afford it, they die. Players may NOT collect rent or do anything meaningful while in Jail (this is different from normal monopoly).
If a player just lands on the Jail space, they are ‘Just Visiting’.
Go:
When a player passes go, they collect $75 and ALSO refill any limited shots they may have used associated with their token ability.
PROPERTIES:
Properties by default are titled with their color and number. But when a player purchases a property, they get to NAME IT (within reason, and no duplicates). This name will be the title on the deed and big board as long as they own it; losing the property reverts it to its default name.
Properties all grant varying abilities to those that own them. For the most part, until a player gets a monopoly, their chances will be less than 100% for that ability to function.
Players will *most likely* possess multiple types of properties in this game. A player may only utilize one of their available abilities from colored properties per night by default.
But this is a free enterprise game, and players may pay $100 to the bank to use an additional ability per cycle. They must let me know of this decision in their channel.

Additionally, each time a player obtains a property, I will input their name into a wheel, which gets spun once at the end of the day.
Each owned property is represented by a space on the wheel. If a player has a monopoly*, I multiply their slots by 2.
If the wheel lands on your name, you will earn safety that night and the following day from losing money and all negative abilities (this includes mafia attacks and paying rent). This does not prevent a day elimination, however. The result of this spin is not public knowledge.
*Utilities and Railroads do not count toward monopolies
DEATH:
When a player goes bankrupt, they die and all their assets are relinquished: money is returned to the bank, and any owned properties now go into foreclosure…
FORECLOSURE:
When a player dies, any owned properties now go into foreclosure and immediate auction over the next phase.
If a player dies from elimination, only the player(s) that personally voted for that player may bid.
If a player dies in any other way, anyone may bid in the auction channel
Mafia Special Abilities:
When mafia attack, they are collecting up to $250 from an individual, and as such the attacker will receive 10% (rounded down) of that player’s money when attacking. This means that a mafia attack may not necessarily kill a player if that player has more than $250 at the time of attack.
When moving, mafia may choose to roll with 2d6, 2d8 or 2d10
Properties cost 10% less to purchase if not contested (not applicable in auction)
If a mafia player lands on a partner’s property, they do not pay. That’s family.
Night 0 will begin in ~2 hours, Saturday 7/6 at 12:30p EST and Day 1 will begin Sunday 7/7 at 10p EST.
I will set the normal start/end cycles at 10p EST (I’m sorry if this isn’t ideal, but this is the best timing for me atm)

Like a flash, everyone was off down the street of Scottyville, with fat wallets and a thirst for spending it. Behind every pair of eyes was the unified thought passed down from their great-grandfathers, and their great-grandfathers before them: if you’re not in the green, you’re as good as dead.

Yeah I needed to reread the monopoly rules again but my retention is kinda low because it's been a long day for me, turns out some professors do not know to not fit an entire 15 week curriculum of work into 6 weeks .
