WORLD TOUR MAFIA II: JAPAN [DAY FIVE]

WORLD TOUR MAFIA II - JAPAN

World Tour Mafia II : Japan, a game for 19 players.

HOW THIS GAME WILL WORK

First - this is full role madness. Every player has a role, and a role without a specific power is rare and still has some benefit.

Second - The world you are playing was only chosen when roles were randomised.

The game will use my very much not-patented and potentially deeply flawed role-madness matrix which I created specifically to do this World Tour series, found in the second post. The matrix contains 46 possible worlds, and you are only playing in one of them. Which specific world is in play was determined by randomiser, and players won't be informed which world we are in. All you will have to go on is your own role power, and what you learn from things that happen during the game. Figuring out which world you are in might be essential to neutralising the threats and bringing home the win.

Third - there's going to be the opportunity for prizes through roleplay. As well as your mechanical role, you have been given a roleplay identity, a list of which is found in the third post. These identities were randomised and have no link to your mechanical role. Roleplay is optional, but prizes will be in play for roleplay. The rules for how I will determine and distribute prizes are set out in the roleplay section.

THE RULES

The golden rule - don't be a wanker. That means being respectful to fellow players, no angleshooting, and minimising appeal to emotion (it is, of course, OK to be honest about real life circumstances, but no one should be made to feel guilty killing someone, or feel forced to kill someone, for non-game reasons).

Mechanical rules

1) THE OTHER GOLDEN RULE - NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED ROLE CLAIMING, including (for example) through infodumping things that you have received through the use of your own role, or by speculating only on possible worlds in which your own role exists. BREACHING THIS RULE WILL BE MODKILLABLE, AS IT CAN GREATLY AFFECT THE BALANCE OF THE GAME. Please read the full post giving examples of what is or is not OK. Please ask the host before embarking on anything you think might be borderline.
1A) Seppuku - it is dishonourable to be too obvious about your role, even if you are not outright claiming. The mafia can, twice in the game, attempt to cause players to commit seppuku (leading to their death).,if they can convince the panel of the host + MoDs that a player has effectively claimed their role through their thread conduct. While outright claiming (express or implied) is modkillable, conduct that is not outright claiming but is 'rather obvious' meets this threshhold. If there are two mafia teams in the game, each team will hold one right to cause seppuku. Seppuku cannot be induced for a player who has successfully outed via mechanics (eg, they claimed their role to you in a btsc chat, or is the only viable living candidate to be a particular role), nor by others correctly identifying their role rather than the player's own thread content. If mafia unsuccessfully convince the panel, they lose that seppuku shot. BE CAUTIOUS - if others correctly identify your role, but then your own content implies they might be correct, that might be enough to trigger seppuku.
2) There is some information you can openly claim or reveal. You may openly speculate about worlds based on public information, including both role flips and other publicly visible mechanics (but not your own role). You may openly speculate about worlds based on effects you believe you have experienced that are not caused by your own role. You may claim/infodump a prize win, and claim any information that results from the use of your prize. If you are outed by the host as having a particular role (for example, through the use of a priest shot), you may claim/infodump information that is consistent with the role that the host has outed you to be.
3) BTSC (behind the scenes communications) may only occur where specifically enabled in line with the rules, and must occur only in a Discord channel provided by the host.
4) Mafia teams have a factional kill that is a targeted ability. The mafia must choose a specific member of their team to make the kill each night, and the kill is considered a role power of the player who uses it. Mafia teams also have factional BTSC.
5) Some worlds have one mafia team, and others have two. If we are in a two-mafia world, mafia teams will alternate kills each night, until one team is eliminated when the remaining team will then be able to kill every night. Mafia alignment will flip as 'mafia' and will not provide any indication of whether there is one or two mafia teams.
6) You cannot self-target, except where your role expressly allows it. You cannot target dead players, except where your role expressly allows it.
7) Only living players have role powers and use abilities, except as otherwise expressly stated in a role.
8) Targeting the same player on two consecutive nights is not permitted. This applies to any ability that uses the word TARGET (and derivatives eg 'targeted', 'targets') but not where other language is used.
9) All targeted abilities that say 'will' or 'must', including factional kill, are randomised if not used. Targeted abilities that say 'may' are not randomised if not used.
10) The mafia must have ended any path to victory for the town or another mafia team to win (which might require more than just a majority of players). The town must eliminate all mafia to win, and in some worlds must also eliminate specific independent roles as described in those roles. Independents need to satisfy their win condition before or at the same time as any other faction wins.
11) A player wins if their factional win condition is met, regardless of whether they are dead or alive, except where their win condition is expressly modified in their role.
12) Day phases will last 48 hours. Night phases will last 24 hours. Use of any private ability is required to be exercised no later than one hour before the end of the phase.
13) Votes are changeable and must be cast in both the thread and the poll to count, except as otherwise expressly stated in a role.
14) An ‘ability’ is any action you can take in the game only by using your role power or a prize.
15) All deaths will lead to a public role flip in the thread, unless otherwise expressly stated in a role.

If you consider there is any conflict between these mechanical rules and any ability you have, please clarify privately with the host.

Basic rules

1) If you need to speak to someone on the outside to vent, PM the moderators on duty, Sherila and fingersplints. That's what they're there for!
2) No editing or deleting of posts in the game thread.
3) Dead players should post in {Dead} Red if they are posting in the game thread (off topic only).
4) Non-Players should post in {np} Blue if they are posting in the game thread (off-topic only).
5) Living players wishing to discuss something off-topic should do so in {OT} Green.
6) Questions directed at the hosts will either by answered publicly or privately at our discretion
7) You are not required to post every day, but if you do not post for two consecutive phases the host reserves the right to replace and/or modkill.

TOWN ROLES
Spoiler: show
Amnesiac - You may not vote for the same person on a day poll on any two consecutive days.
Antique Dealer - You may select a dead player each night, and learn whether their affiliation as revealed in the thread was truthful.
Astronomer - You may effect phase structure three times in the game. You have a 1-shot ability to cause two days in a row, a 1-shot ability to cause two nights in a row, and a 1-shot ability to cause an eclipse (day and night simultaneously). Eclipse phases will last the length of one night, and both day votes and night abilities will be locked once used, even if they are otherwise changeable. Your death will trigger your unused shots in the above order.
Athlete - You begin each day at -2 votes.
Banker - You may bank your vote on any day by PM; your vote for that day will count zero (but you may still vote in the poll), and you will bank that vote for use on a future day. You may use your standard vote plus any or all banked votes on any given day (all votes on any given day go to the person you vote in the poll, they may not be split).
Blind Witness - You always target every person who dies during the night, to no effect.
Blocker - You will target someone each night, and any ability they use will have no effect that night.
Bodyguard - You will target someone each night, and if they would die that night you will die in their place.
Bomb - You will kill the person who kills you immediately upon your death (or, if you were killed by vote, the last person to vote for you).
Bulletproof - You are unable to die by nightkill (this ability can be blocked).
Commuter (2-shot) - You may choose to commute at night twice in the game. If you choose to commute, you become untargetable by all abilities for that night.
Cop - You will target someone each night, and learn their affiliation.
Cop (2-shot) - You may target someone at night twice in the game. When you choose to target someone, you will learn their affiliation.
Coward - You will target someone to hide behind each night. You will not die if you are targeted for a kill, but both you and the person you hide behind will die if they are targeted for a kill.
Curser - You will target someone to curse each night (specific curse at the election of the host). You may target yourself.
Dam - Only the first ability you are targeted with will be effective each night; all subsequent abilities that you are targeted with will have no effect.
Doctor - You will target someone each night, protecting them from any kill attempt made against them. You may target yourself.
Druid - You have three abilities, each of which you may use once in the game. You have a 1-shot targeted doctor ability (if used, you will protect your target from any kill attempt made against them), a 1-shot targeted priest ability (if used, you will reveal your target's role publicly in the thread), and a 1-shot necromancer ability (if used, you will use the ability of a revealed dead role of your choice).
Elementalist - You have four abilities relating to vote totals, each of which you may use once in the game at night. Only one ability may be used on any given night. Water - you may target someone to start the next day with the number of votes that you publicly appeared to take (in the poll) on the previous day; fire - your vote will be worth three for the following day; earth - each vote cast against you the following day will only count as half a vote; air - you may vote for three people the following day (one publicly and two by PM), but all three votes must be for different people.
Hedgehog - anyone who targets you during the night will automatically begin the next day with one vote against them.
Ice Cream Man (1-shot) - Once in the game, you may target a player and deprive them of their role power, making them vanilla.
Jedi (1-shot) - Once in the game, at night, you can add one vote to every player who has a mafia or independent affiliation for the following day. You do not learn who any of those players are.
Jailer - You will target someone to jail each night, preventing them from both using their own power and being successfully targeted by any other powers.
Journalist - Each night, you may send the hosts a message to be published in the thread at dawn the following day. You may not expressly out yourself via message. The host may set other restrictions on the content of the message.
Lawyer - You will target someone to defend each night, removing that player from the poll the following day.
Male Model - Each night, you will watch yourself, and learn who targeted you.
Mason - You have BTSC with the other civilian mason.
Miller - You appear to be mafia when investigated (while alive) or revealed (while alive or upon death). The mafia role you are revealed as will be selected by the host from those mafia roles that are present (alive or dead) in the current game.
Necromancer - You may select a dead player whose ability has been revealed in the thread, and use the revealed ability. You can only select each dead role once. You will not change affiliation or win condition, even if you use an ability from another faction.
Parrot - You may select one player each night and replicate any ability they use that night. You may only select a player to replicate for a second time after you have selected every living player once, and may not select any player more than twice in the game. If you choose to replicate an ability, you must also target four different players (in case you replicate a targeted ability). In the event you replicate an ability with more than one target, your targets will be resolved in the order in which you submit them. You may target yourself. You will not be informed of what ability you have replicated or any effect it may have had, although you will get any information that a person with that ability would ordinarily get in the circumstances. You will only replicate an ability that is actually used on that night (for example, if you copy a player with an x-shot role who does not use a shot on that night, then you will replicate nothing).
Physicist - You will target someone each night in your search for the Invisible Man. You will be told if you successfully target him.
Pizza Chef - You may target someone to send pizza each night, choosing the pizza toppings. The pizza itself has no effect. You may not expressly out yourself via pizza. The host may set other restrictions on the toppings of the pizza.
President (1-shot) - Once in the game you may, by PM, determine who is eliminated during the day (instead of the person with the most votes on the poll). The player you choose must be on the poll.
Priest (1-shot) - Once in the game, you may target a player at night and reveal that player's role and affiliation publicly in the thread at dawn.
Redirector - You will target two players each night; any targeted ability used by the first player will take effect as if the second player is the target (instead of the first player's chosen target).
Reloader - You will target someone each night, and if they have a power that is x-shot and they have consumed at least one shot, you will reload a single shot of that target's power (if the target has multiple x-shot powers, the first power used will be reloaded). This ability will have no effect on any player with an x-shot ability who has not yet used any shot. You may only target each player once.
Reseller - You will target someone each night and give them an additional vote to use for the following day (that additional vote will be cast by PM and may be for the person that the player publicly votes for or a different person).
Scrutineer (2-shot) - Twice in the game at night, you may target four people, and only those four people will appear on the poll on the following day. You may target yourself.
Shapeshifter - You begin as a vanilla civilian, but at any point you may choose to permanently take on the role of a dead player by sending a PM to the host. Your power will be selected randomly from all dead players (including unrevealed and revealed roles) after the completion of the phase in which you send the PM. You will not change affiliation or win condition, even if you obtain a role from another affiliation or with another win condition. If your ability is revealed after you have shapeshifted, you will appear as your new role.
Silencer - You will target someone each night. That player will be silenced and unable to post the following day. You may target yourself.
Snitch - You will target someone each night in your search for the Don. You will be told if you successfully target them.
Spy - You will target someone each night and poison them. There is an equal chance that they will be silenced, blocked, or killed.
Supatownie - You are a vanilla civilian, but you must be nightkilled to win.
Survivalist (1-shot) - You will survive the first attempt on your life, however it may occur.
Telephone (3-shot) - Three times in the game, you may select a person at night that you would like to have BTSC with. You will have BTSC with them for the following day phase.
Telephone (1-shot) - Once in the game, you may select a person at night that you would like to have BTSC with. You will have BTSC with them for the following day phase.
Time Traveller - You will target someone each night, and delay the effect of any ability used by that player by a full phase (if it is used during a day phase, it will take effect on the subsequent day phase. If it is used during a night phase, it will take effect on the subsequent night phase). For the purpose of any tracking abilities, they will track abilities when they are used rather than when they take effect (but will only learn results when they take effect).
Tortured Soul - You are a vanilla civilian while alive. You may continue to talk in the thread on topic after death (but not vote).
Tracker - You will target someone to track each night. You will learn who (if anyone) that player targeted with any ability they have.
Vigilante (1-shot) - Once in the game, you may target someone at night and kill them.
Watcher - You will target someone to watch each night. You will learn who (if anyone) targeted that player with an ability that night.

MAFIA ROLES
Spoiler: show
Astronomer - You may effect phase structure three times in the game. You have a 1-shot ability to cause two days in a row, a 1-shot ability to cause two nights in a row, and a 1-shot ability to cause an eclipse (day and night simultaneously). Eclipse phases will last the length of one night, and both day votes and night abilities will be locked in once used, even if they are otherwise changeable. Your death will trigger your unused shots in the above order.

Banker - You may bank your vote on any day by PM; your vote for that day will count zero (but you may still vote in the poll), and you will bank that vote for use on a future day. Blocker - You will target someone each night, and their ability will have no effect that night.
Bus Driver - You will target two players each night. If both of those players are actively targeting someone, their targets will be switched.
Curser - You will target someone to curse each night (specific curse at the election of the host). You may target yourself.
Don - Abilities that can learn affiliation will be told you are a civilian if they target you.
Encrypter (1-shot) – Once in the game at night, you may cause all information created or received by any information abilities to be incorrect.
Forger (1-shot) - You may select one person to appear as an alignment of your choice upon any public reveal (but not upon investigation). You may select a person at the start of the game and change this person at any time except during the last hour of a phase, up until one person has a forged role publicly revealed, at which point your shot is consumed. The role they are revealed as will be selected randomly from roles of the relevant alignment that are present (alive or dead) in the current game.
Ice Cream Man (1-shot) - Once in the game, you may target a player and deprive them of their role power, making them vanilla.
Invisible Man - Abilities that can learn who players target are unable to see you when you target someone for a kill (this includes roles such as the watcher, tracker and male model).
Janitor (1-shot) - Once in the game, you may target a player at night. That player's role will not be revealed upon their death.
Necromancer - You may select a dead player whose ability has been revealed in the thread, and use the revealed ability. You can only select each dead role once. You will not change affiliation or win condition, even if you use an ability from another faction.
Patsy - Once in the game during the day, you may decide to be voted out instead of whoever else is being voted out that day. This overrides any other roles or abilities that can affect the outcome of day polls. If you have not used this ability before day six, this ability will automatically be used on day six.
Politician - You are only able to die via day poll if you receive a plurality (but not an outright majority) of all votes cast.
Role Cop (2-shot) - Twice in the game at night, you may target someone and learn their role (but not their affiliation).
Role Cop (1-shot) - Once in the game at night, you may target someone and learn their role (but not their affiliation).
Squid (1-shot) - Once in the game at night, you may determine that there will be no public poll on the following day, forcing all players to vote by PM. Players may also not use voting tags in the thread, but they may claim who they are voting for in the thread.
Surgeon - You may make yourself appear to be any role from the matrix when your role is publicly revealed upon your death.
Survivalist (1-shot) - You will survive the first attempt on your life, however it may occur.
Thief - You may select one player each night and steal any ability they use that night, both gaining use of it and depriving them of its use. You may only select a player to steal from for a second time after you have selected every living player once, and may not select any player more than twice in the game. If you choose to steal an ability, you must also target four different players (in case you steal a targeted ability). In the event you steal an ability with more than one target, your targets will be resolved in the order in which you submit them. You may target yourself. You will not be informed of what ability you have stolen or any effect it may have had, although you will get any information that a person with that ability would ordinarily get in the circumstances. You will only steal an ability that is actually used on that night (for example, if you copy a player with an x-shot role who does not use a shot on that night, then you will steal nothing).
Tracker - You will target someone to track each night. You will learn who (if anyone) that player targeted with any ability they have.
Watcher - You will target someone to watch each night. You will learn who (if anyone) targeted that player with an ability that night.

INDEPENDENT ROLES
Spoiler: show
Billionaire - You will target someone each night, buying them off. This will prevent any ability that player has from affecting you for the rest of the game (including kills). You may only target each player once. You must survive to win.
Cult Leader - Every even night, you may target someone and recruit them to your cult. A recruited cult member gains BTSC with all living members of the cult, and their affiliation and win condition changes to match the affiliation and win condition of the cult leader. Cult members maintain any role powers that they had before being a member of the cult, other than kills and any faction-based BTSC. The game ends and the cult leader wins if the number of living cult members outnumbers the number of other living players in the game. The cult leader does not need to be alive for this win condition to be met. Recruitment by a cult leader will be blocked by anything that prevents kills (eg, it will burn a survivalist's shot), as well as standard blocking abilities. Neither mafia nor town can win while the cult leader is alive.
Darkness - You will target someone each night and remove their win condition, which they will get back only if Darkness dies or is deprived of their role power. Each time another player succumbs to the Darkness, you will be informed. Players will not be informed if they have had their win condition removed in this way. You will win (and all other players will lose) if all other living players are suffering from the Darkness at any time.
Gambler - You will pick a faction on night 2; you will only win if that faction also wins. That faction will not be informed of your choice, nor will you be given access to any faction-related BTSC. If you choose independent, you will gain (and be informed of) the win condition of another living independent player in the game or, if you are the only living independent player, you must survive to win.
Hypnotist - Each night, you will target someone and give them the name of another player that they will then need dead to win (along with any other win condition they may have). You may only target each player once. You must survive to win.
Jester - You have no role power. You must be voted out during the day to win.
Serial Killer - You may target someone to kill each night. You must be the last person alive to win. Neither mafia nor town can win while the serial killer is alive. On nights where you choose not to kill, you are bulletproof. However, your bulletproof ability is one-shot and you will not be told if it is consumed.
Shapeshifter - You begin as a vanilla civilian, but at any point you may choose to permanently take on the role of a dead player by sending a PM to the host. Your power will be selected randomly from all dead players (including unrevealed and revealed roles) after the completion of the phase in which you send the PM. You will not change affiliation or win condition, even if you obtain a role from another affiliation. If your ability is revealed after you have shapeshifted, you will appear as your new role. You must survive to win.
Stalker - You will be given the names of two random people by the host at the start of the game. Those players must be dead at game end in order for you to win. You must also survive to win.

Konnichiwa!

I will be a Mod on Duty for this game. @fingersplints will be joining me. We are here to ensure that all you happy people stay that way.

If you are unfamiliar with generic site rules, please see our Guidelines Forum, located here. If you have any questions about these guidelines, please contact one of us.

I can be found on Discord at SVS2147 (Sherila/SVS), or you can PM me here onsite. I check Discord more often on workdays, but still check in onsite often.

You can also ping me in your personal channels on Discord. Splints is Fingersplints on Discord, and can be reached onsite here. here

If you have questions about the game rules or specific set up related questions, contact the host @Golden . If we get such questions, we will forward them to the host but you will get game related answers more quickly if you contact him directly.

The Mods main function is to reduce stress and drama. So if you are frustrated, and need to vent in general, or about the actions of another player, we are here. We will not share anything you say to us, unless we feel the host needs to know it for game integrity, and then we will let you know. Main point, if someone or something is stressing you out, tell Splints or I, don't tell the thread.

We take personal determination seriously, so if a player asks you to address them in a certain way, please do so. No name calling or slurs, please.

We will follow the thread and if anyone looks to us like they are flailing, we may contact them without them contacting us.

Frequently asked questions

Can I claim my role in btsc?

Yes, you can claim your role in BTSC. Please note in particular rule 3, which provides that you only have btsc where specifically enabled by the rules and as enabled by the host within the game discord, and also rules 1A and 2 which engage with what you are allowed to say, what you're not allowed to say, and what you can say but which might trigger seppuku.

I have amended rules 1A and 2 slightly to better reflect what you can say, can't say, and need to be cautious about saying.

Can I fake role claim or infodump?

No. Fake infodumping (eg, to prove you don't have that info, or aren't a particular role, via not getting modkilled) is angle shooting and is subject to modkill.

Can I claim that I am not a role?

Only in circumstances where this would not be angle shooting. It is, for example, always OK to claim you are not mafia. It is OK to reject someone else's speculation that you are a particular role, or that you are responsible for some role-related thing (regardless of whether that is true or false). What is not OK is stating out of nowhere that you are not a particular role, claiming out of nowhere that you are not responsible for a particular role-related thing, or claiming lots of roles that you are not for the purpose of narrowing down what role you might be on the matrix. The golden rule is that angle shooting infodumping mechanics undermines the spirit and balance of the game and is not fair play.

"Arigatou gozaimasu."

An elderly man stands, looking out at one of an incredibly assorted bunch of beings

"I have called you all here for a game, of sorts. A test of wits. A battle royale. A contest that you are honour-bound to participate in."

He surveys the group - one says "Pika pika", a yellow sphere opens and closes it's mouth, and a man scrunches his eyes tight, trying to stop time.

"You see, amongst you are some of the most fiendish villains, not only of our time but of all time. I cannot tell you how many. I cannot tell you who may be in league with another. For the rest of you are the very brightest, those with the abilities to solve these crimes. Succeed, and I will pluck you out of time and commend you on your victory. Fail, and I shall allow these villains free reign over time itself."

A samurai pulls out their sword, and says "Hai". One by one, the rest of the crew follow, swearing they will help each other root out the treacherous among them.

"And while you do it, you shall be in a race, for by the end of the game you must reach the other end of Japan, or all will fail. Umaku iku to iine" the elderly man says, and vanishes in the blink of an eye.

It is now Day Zero. Introduce yourself, and have fun, for the contest shall fiercely begin in around 24 hours.

I cannot lie sir, my blade is of far more humble origins than that, though I would never attempt to obscure that marking via camera angle and image downsizing!

After this quest, perhaps even this simple blade of mine shall attain some semblance of that status.

Fear not, I was perhaps uncharitable to compare your blade to such a sacred standard.

I have seen hero’s attain success with nothing to fight with beyond throwing some barrels at their fiendish opponents, so you may yet have an important role to play in our quest

I don’t really find the foliage “beautiful” as much as I find them mysterious. Whenever I head off into the woods I wind up getting lost

Kawhi made a snowball because we were about to ship him off to Canada.

I am of course Manu in that video, as the only correct answer.

Ah, yes well, if you are creating a towncore, I humbly offer my services - er, that is, the services of my latest project! Only recently completed, it ehh uses enhanced quantum LIDAR scanners that feed directly into custom integrity capacitors, you see, and a post can then be sent back across a substring loop until the fabrication actuators activate, and then, well then... we know! I mean I know, well, IT knows, but the readouts can be tabulated in according to any of the five common hierarchical principals (hand coded by myself, mind you) for ready understanding!

But it works! Well, that is to say, it functions. We're past beta-testing and this will be its ah, trial by fire ha ha! There is no actual fire when it's in operation, of course.
