The Shinobi's goal is to maintain peace among the villages and combat any external threats to this status quo. Thus, the Shinobi have prevailed only when the Akatsuki has disbanded and there are no other outstanding threats. None of the Shinobi start with BTSC.

Naruto Uzumaki – The eponymous protagonist of the Naruto franchise. He became the third jinchuriki of Kurama on the day of his birth, a fate that caused him to be ostracized and neglected by most of the Hidden Leaf Village throughout his childhood. After becoming a member of Team Kakashi, Naruto worked hard to gain the village's respect and acknowledgement with the eventual dream of becoming Hokage. Now Naruto has proven himself an incredibly capable ninja regarded as a hero worthy of the Hokage title, both by the villagers and the shinobi world at large. His cheerful and boisterous personality lets him befriend and lead others in a way that others cannot match.

Famed as a hermit and pervert of stupendous skill, Jiraiya traveled the world in search of knowledge that would help his friends, the various novels he wrote, and the world in its entirety - knowledge that he entrusts to his godson and final student, Naruto Uzumaki.

Kakashi Hatake – A jonin of the Hidden Leaf Village. He received a Sharingan from his former teammate, Obito Uchiha, when he was younger, leading to his monikers Copy Ninja Kakashi and Kakashi of the Sharingan. His prodigious talent, skill, and Sharingan prowess have made him one of the village's most capable ninja, recognized throughout the ninja world. He was appointed the leader of Team 7, where he used his years of experience to train his students, Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke, to become skilled ninja. Although often portrayed as detached and apathetic, his loyalty to his friends and students is incredibly apparent.

Might Guy – A jonin of the Hidden Leaf Village. A master of taijutsu, Guy led and passed his wisdom to the members of Team Guy, consisting of Lee, Neji, and Tenten. During this time, Guy dedicated most of his time to his pupil Rock Lee, who emulates himself in his sensei's image and ideals. Guy is infamous for his unparalleled physical fitness and enthusiasm, perhaps best shown by his "My Rules" philosophy, which involves setting ridiculously tough self-imposed penalties for failure in the belief that the punishment will make him stronger. Guy is usually found competing with his self-proclaimed childhood rival, Kakashi Hatake, despite the fact that he has never displayed a particular interest in their rivalry, which only further motivates Guy to defeat Kakashi and his "coolness".

Asuma Sarutobi – A jonin of the Hidden Leaf Village and son of the Third Hokage. Additionally, he was a former member of the Twelve Guardian Ninja and leader of Team 10, consisting of Choji, Ino, and Shikamaru. Even though no longer his mentor, he developed a particularly close relationship with Shikamaru, serving as an additional father figure.

Yamato – A former ANBU member and a temporary replacement for Kakashi Hatake as the leader of Team Kakashi. After Kakashi's return, he stayed on the team in an additional leadership position. "Yamato" is not his real name, but rather a codename assigned to him for the purposes of joining Team Kakashi; his real name is unknown. Unlike Kakashi, who was his senior in the ANBU and holds much of Yamato's respect, Yamato believes ninja should be able to look after themselves to the point of leaving behind any he sees as a hindrance. During his childhood, Yamato was abducted by Orochimaru and experimented upon in an attempt to replicate the First Hokage's Wood Style. As a result, he is a unique asset to the Hidden Leaf Village, as he is the only living shinobi who can use Wood Style jutsu.

Tsunade – One of the Hidden Leaf Village's legendary Sannin. Though celebrated as the world's most powerful kunoichi and its greatest medical ninja, Tsunade abandoned the life of the ninja for many years in pursuit of other goals. She was eventually persuaded to return to the Leaf and became its Fifth Hokage, using her strength to repress the village's enemies as well as her medical knowledge to keep its villagers safe.

Sai – Raised as a member of The Foundation while he was a child, Sai was trained to not possess or desire any type of emotion or camaraderie, even after he killed his surrogate brother Shin under Danzo's diabolical orders. Once added to Team 7 as Sasuke's replacement, he often unintentionally provoked Naruto and Sakura into antagonizing him. After the two discover his past and warm up to him, however, he begins to crave bonds with other people, which has since become his primary goal in the series. Sai spends his time painting and drawing, and has produced thousands of works, although he has only named one, "Friend", which depicts Team Kakashi under a tree. His artistic talents extend to his choice of attacks in battles, being that he can infuse chakra with his inking brush to breathe life to his drawings.

Shikamaru Nara – Though often portrayed as lazy and unmotivated, especially as a child, Shikamaru possesses a rare intellect that consistently allows him to prevail in combat. The responsibilities that these successes leave him with cause him frequent annoyance, but he gladly accepts them first so that he may be of service to his fellow members of Team Asuma, and later to prove himself to generations of the past and future.

Choji Akimichi – A former member of Team 10 who is typified by his affinity for food. Though his habit of always eating gives him a relatively large appearance, Choji insists he is not fat, a suggestion that infuriates him, instead using explanations like being "big-boned", using how Naruto is always called "stupid" despite not being so as a parallel. Ever since joining the Ninja Academy as children, Choji and Shikamaru have been best friends, with Choji stating he would willingly give his life to defend Shikamaru. In battle, Choji can increase the size of his body to improve the amount of damage his strikes deal upon impact. He can also use his clan's signature Calorie Control which converts his body fat to chakra.

Ino Yamanaka – A childhood friend of Sakura Haruno, who helped her to develop her own identity. When they discovered that they both liked Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura ended their friendship. The two eventually make amends and rekindle their friendship, but constantly maintain a competitive attitude towards each other. In terms of combat abilities, Ino specializes in mind-altering techniques. To use these techniques, Ino transfers her consciousness to her target's mind, gaining control over their body which she can then use to attack others.

While he lacks certain skills typically associated with life as a ninja, and cannot execute ninjutsu or genjutsu, Lee seeks to make up for his shortcomings in whatever way he can and strongly believes he can excel as an accomplished ninja nonetheless. Receiving special training in this regard from his teacher, Might Guy, he becomes a refined taijutsu master and seeks to only get stronger by protecting his friends and his village.

Neji Hyuga – A former member of Team Guy and a child prodigy of the Hyuga clan, as well as Hinata's cousin. Neji was a member of the clan's Branch House; no matter how skilled he became, he would always be in service to the Hyuga's Main House, a fact that convinced him fate was predetermined. After being defeated in the Chunin Exams by Naruto Uzumaki and uncovering the truth behind his father's death, he had a change of heart. His Byakugan gives him a nearly 360 degree field of vision and allows him to see the flow of chakra within an opponent's body, thereby enabling him to physically harm and even disable enemies using only the slightest amount of physical contact, hence the terminology "Gentle Fist".

Hinata Hyuga – Being of a meek disposition, Hinata's historical lack of self-confidence reflected in her skills — traits that caused her father to deem that she was not suited for her position as the clan's heiress. Under Kurenai's guidance, Hinata began training with her mentor and comrades in Team 8, both to overcome her own weaknesses and to prove her worth to her father. Throughout the series, Hinata has shown feelings for Naruto, as she is inspired by his enthusiasm and his unyielding determination. Due to limited interaction with her, however, Naruto is oblivious to the seemingly-obvious hints of her affection towards him. As a member of the Hyuga clan, thereby possessing Byakugan, her combat mirrors that of her cousin, Neji.

Tenten – The sole former female member of Team Guy, little is known about Tenten's history or personality, although, like Neji, she is often annoyed by the overboard enthusiasm of Guy and Lee. In battle, Tenten specializes in weaponry, ranging from projectiles to close-combat weapons and explosives; she uses the hundreds of weapons stored in scrolls she carries with her to bombard opponents.

Sakura Haruno – Although she excelled as a result of her diligence and insight in the Ninja Academy, when appointed as a member of Team Kakashi, Sakura quickly found herself ill-prepared for the duties of a ninja and the complications of her teammates' lives, but it was shown that such fears were baseless. By training under her master, Tsunade, she becomes an impressively strong kunoichi and an excellent medical ninja, following in her mentor's footsteps and proving herself more than capable of facing the challenges of a life as a ninja.

Shino Aburame – One of the former members of Team 8 as well as a descendant of the Aburame Clan, a group of ninja who formed a symbiosis with a special breed of insects known as "destruction bugs" by allowing the insects to use their bodies as hives. During a battle, Shino directs his bugs towards an opponent, boxing them in without their knowledge and absorbing their chakra once they have been surrounded. Shino's merciless tendencies, in regards to opponents as well as his attachment to and collection of insects, have caused other characters to label him as "creepy". Nevertheless, Shino cares deeply for his teammates, being acutely aware of their inner workings and always regretting when he is unable to help them.

Kiba Inuzuka – A former member of Team 8 who is of the Inuzuka Clan, a group of ninja with canine characteristics who train alongside their ninja dog partners. In stark contrast to his teammates, Shino and Hinata, Kiba is brash, impulsive, and loud-mouthed, and he considers Naruto a rival after Naruto defeated him in the Chunin Exams. Despite this, he is very protective of his teammates, and Kiba displays the same loyalty to his dog Akamaru, unwilling to abandon him and putting himself in harm's way for Akamaru's sake. In exchange for Kiba's devotion, Akamaru fights with him in battle; he uses his heightened senses to Kiba's advantage, and helps to double-team opponents with volleys of physical attacks. After honing his skills given to him as a member of the Inuzuka Clan, Kiba has an incredible sense of smell, able to track even what dogs cannot.

Gaara – A shinobi of the Hidden Sand Village, Shukaku was sealed into his body on the day he was born, a procedure that resulted in his mother's death. In this way, he and Naruto were born through similar circumstances and both experienced isolation due to being jinchuriki. Unable to reconcile the hatred from his father, the curse of his mother, and the ostracizing from his fellow villagers, Gaara became depressed and cold-hearted, and thereafter a ruthless killer who believed the only way he could fulfill his existence was to kill his enemies. After witnessing the devotion to his friends exhibited by Naruto, as well as developing fulfilling relationships with his siblings Kankuro and Temari, Gaara grew and overcame his darkness. In the span of just a couple of years, he became the Sand Village's Fifth Kazekage and earned the respect of all of his people.

Kankuro – Although a sibling of Gaara, Kankuro was frequently at odds with Gaara, often reluctantly holding his tongue for fear of being killed. However, as time passed and Gaara began to reveal his dreams and motivations to Kankuro, they developed a close relationship, and Kankuro became very protective of Gaara. Kankuro consequently lashes out at anyone who speaks poorly of Gaara and becomes Gaara's right hand man when he is elected Kazekage. Kankuro is a talented puppeteer, normally using his bladed attack puppet Crow and trapping puppet Black Ant in combination attacks. He also possesses the large puppet Salamander that provides him with combination defense and offense.

Temari – The oldest of the siblings of the Fourth Kazekage, thereby making her Gaara and Kankuro's sister. Unlike her more combat-loving brothers, Temari values peace, and helps develop the alliance between the Hidden Leaf and Hidden Sand Villages by acting as a liaison. In battle, Temari wields a giant iron fan that can create powerful gusts of wind capable of leveling the surrounding landscape. As she is skilled at deducing an opponent's strategies and weaknesses soon after a battle begins, she typically uses her winds to remove parts of the battlefield that might be advantageous to the enemy.

Chiyo – A retired elder adviser to the Hidden Sand Village brought out of retirement to combat the Akatsuki. She was initially mistrustful of other ninja villages because of the Second and Third Great Ninja Wars, where conflict among the villages was strong and caused much hatred. As a skilled puppeteer, Chiyo takes Sasori in after his parents died at the hands of Kakashi Hatake's father, and teaches him everything she knows before his departure. She also is incredibly skilled medical ninja and well-versed in poisons, despite being foiled by Tsunade throughout the previous Great Ninja Wars. Touched by the collaboration she now sees between the Sand and Leaf Villages, she expresses her regret over many terrible things she has done, but hopes to make up for it by assisting in whatever way she can before her death.

Killer Bee – A shinobi from the Hidden Cloud Village. Ever since a child, he has been the most recent jinchuriki of the Eight-Tails; though, unlike his predecessors, he is able to befriend it and hone its power for his village's benefit. Despite being responsible for the village's protection, Bee aspires to be the world's greatest rapper, to the annoyance of many other characters, most notably his brother, the Raikage. He is an incredibly adept ninja, possessing great strength as well as proving himself a talented swordsman, capable of using up to seven swords at once and executing attacks that are unpredictable enough to render even Sasuke's Sharingan useless.

Akatsuki (9)
A criminal organization comprised of infamously skilled and renowned defective ninja, the Akatsuki do not let any individuals stand in the way of their goal. They operate in teams of two, sharing BTSC only within each team, and thus Akatsuki members may or may not have contact beyond such BTSC, but they all know their other teammates' identities.

Itachi Uchiha – A prodigy of the Hidden Leaf Village's Uchiha clan, he was adored and admired by the village people throughout his childhood. However, once he joined the ANBU, tensions mounted between the Uchiha Clan and Itachi, who had become increasingly cold and distant. He became an international criminal after murdering his entire clan, sparing only his younger brother, Sasuke. Paired with Kisame Hoshigaki; they share BTSC.

Kisame Hoshigaki – Feared as the Monster of the Hidden Mist, Kisame once belonged to the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, a group of violent ninja that use particularly large swords in battle. His sword, Samehada, is a living weapon covered in scales that can absorb untold amounts of an opponent's chakra. Only allowing those it sees as worthy to wield it, Samehada can provide the user with the chakra it holds, ensuring him a seemingly infinite amount of stamina. Kisame is known for being quite sadistic, and demonstrates no hesitation in mutilating his opponents. Paired with Itachi Uchiha; they share BTSC.

Deidara – Previously a member of the Explosion Corps in the Hidden Stone Village, he became obsessed with perfecting his explosive clay art, and wrecked havoc on his village before defecting to the Akatsuki. Despite arguing with his partner, Sasori, over their different perspectives on art, Deidara displays respect for his partner and typically displays a cool, and relaxed attitude, even while intensely battling. Paired with Sasori; they share BTSC.

Hidan – Infuriated by the peaceful ways of the small village he resided in, he slaughtered the entire village, believing all of the shinobi inhabitants were meant to be killed. He thereafter joined the cult-like religion of Jashin, a religion that worships a deity of the same name. The primary teaching of this faith is surmised to be outright slaughter, where anything less than utter destruction is considered a sin. Hidan is a rather foul-mouthed and idiotic individual, openly disrespectful of those who do not share his religious customs, and often expresses haste and arrogance in battle. As the second newest member to the Akatsuki, he is forcibly partnered with Kakuzu, and the two develop an intense mutual dislike for each other. Paired with Kakuzu; they share BTSC.

Kakuzu – Like the others in his organization, Kakuzu became disillusioned with the shinobi world for his own reasons, and defected. In his early days, he was paired with four different partners in the Akatsuki, all of whom he killed due to his short temper. Dynamics

Instead of a strict NK/role power system, to better reflect the theme and try something unique, the Health and Chakra system is adapted:

• Health can only be affected by damage from other players' night actions. The health indicated for each character is the starting amount as well as the maximum. Once a player reaches 0 health, they die.

• Lynches occur during day periods as normal. Regardless of the amount of health one has, typically a lynch will still flat out kill any player, with the usual mafia game exceptions.

• Chakra determines what night actions one can currently choose to utilize. The chakra indicated for each character is the starting amount as well as the maximum. The parentheses in correspondence with each jutsu specify the amount of chakra that must be spent to execute that move.

• Multiple jutsu can be used in one night, so long as the chakra required for the jutsu is available.

• Chakra is replenished at the end of every day period. The replenishment rate is equal to a combination of a flat rate specific to your character plus or minus quality and quantity of posts during the previous night/day cycle. This is intended to reward players for contributing and punish those for failing to do so, even if not on an extreme scale.

I've had this in the works for quite a long while now and am super glad and excited to finally have it finished. Having experimented previously in Bioshock with an unconventional NK/power system focusing on percentage rates as well as in Super Meat Boy with the "life" system, I decided to use what I learned from both and incorporate elements into this game in what I hope will prove to be not only more efficient but also befitting the theme perfectly. I also believe the jutsu element will keep civilians more happy and engaged in addition to in general keeping all players thinking about strategy more than would be required in a typical role setup.

Once I found out the Naruto manga was ending on November 10th, my goal was to complete this game by then. I am pleased to have succeeded. :noble:

For those familiar with the manga or anime, this storyline will mirror the events corresponding with Naruto Shippuden Openings 1 through 8, or story arcs beginning with the Kazekage Rescue Arc up through the Invasion of Pain Arc. Of course, there will be natural deviations and the storylines from some arcs will be given more weight than others, and elements of others may sneak in. But given the awesome yet massive volume of story provided in the Naruto universe, spanning 15 years, I wanted to provide a bit of specific insight into what this game will cover, as it cannot inevitably cover everything. Nonetheless, I'm hoping it serves as the perfect timeline focus to satisfy both fans of the theme and those who know absolutely nothing about it.

Well, it's extremely possible I'm not in my right mind, but here are just a few reasons why someone would create Whisker Boy Mafia:

1) It's awesome. :noble:
2) The theme is excellently conducive to a mafia adaptation. Like ridiculously excellently conducive. And it allows me to apply my Super Meat Boy-esque health and Bioshock-esque role dynamics as well as other completely new dynamics in a different setting, in an attempt to perfect them.
3) Did I mention it's awesome? :p

Most significantly, you could view it as Part 2 of my Anime-themed mafia games; the first of which is my Death Note Mafia (still to be hosted), the second of which is this, the third of which I'm intending to be Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Mafia. This is mostly because all three make incredibly awesome mafia adaptations and all allow me to try out different dynamics in an exact way I haven't seen in a mafia game before. Of course, it also helps that they're also the first three anime/manga series that I really loved, and thus still my favorites. They also hold particular value to me because my brother was the one who introduced me to all three of them, so it's something we bonded over as well.

Also, considering the manga has been around for 15 years and sold over 135 million copies, I'm pretty sure Bass and I aren't the only ones who like it. :p

I should say, though, with Naruto: because the anime so massive, you have to know when to start and stop occasionally in the original and Shippuden, since there are a few pointless filler arcs. That's the only warning. But it's so totally worth it either way. I love FMAB to death as well; they both are fantastic.
