Death Note Mafia

Detectives (12)
Detectives win when all killers (Kiras) have been stopped and justice has prevailed.
L – The world’s most renowned detective, L is incredibly intelligent, logical, and diligent. Consequently, he suffers extreme insomnia, determined to catch Kira. Every night, L searches an individual to determine whether they are Kira. He subsequently comes up with a percentage as to their likelihood of being the murderer. No one knows his true identity other than Watari. L works closely with Watari on his detective work; consequently, he may send one message to his right-hand man at the end of each day period. At the end of every night, L gains anonymous BTSC with any player of his choice for the subsequent day/night cycle, in an attempt to discern whether that player is Kira. At the beginning of each night period, L is provided the mathematical percentage of the likelihood of that player being Kira; however, he may adjust this percentage to truly reflect the real likelihood of that player being Kira. This percentage, as well as L's thoughts about the player he has interrogated, are made public upon completion of anonymous BTSC. L may choose the same player more than once for anonymous BTSC. Because of his anonymous existence, he cannot be night killed by Kira unless Kira first knows his role. If L ever tries to gain anonymous BTSC with Mello, Near, or a shinigami who has not yet been revealed, his power fails and he gains BTSC with no one, but he is not made aware why. If he has BTSC with no one, he may still write a report on any player he wishes. Due to his astute powers of deduction, L is made aware any time a Death Note changes hands from one killer to another. Whenever Misa and Light communicate via message, L intercepts all of their messages.Watari – L’s right-hand man and guardian. Knows L’s true identity and helps him run the logistics of his operation. Watari works closely with L on his detective work; consequently, he may send one message to L at the end of each night period. Serving as a father-like figure to L, Watari is very protective of him. If L is ever about to be lynched, Watari dies in his place. If Watari is lynched, his death will be followed by another day; if he is night killed, there will subsequently be two days in a row.
Soichiro Yagami – The Chief of the NPA and father of Light Yagami, Soichiro’s perseverance in catching Kira is nearly unmatched, but, like many others, he is blinded by the manipulative skills of his son. However, his strong sense of justice and duty inspire other officers below him, particularly Matsuda. He is the figurehead of the Japanese Task Force. If any Japanese Task Force member votes for him, their vote is secretly worth 0. Any day period that Soichiro votes for a Kira or a Kira Sympathizer, Matsuda’s vote is worth 2 instead of 1. On two separate nights, Chief Soichiro can inspire the other members of the Japanese Task Force, making all their votes worth 2 the subsequent day. If L dies and any of the shinigami has been revealed, Soichiro may decide to make the Shinigami Eye Deal. If he does so, Soichiro can send in the names of five players every night that he intends to role check. He then receives what five roles supposedly correspond to those players. Because he sees so many names and faces, he has trouble keeping track of whose identity is which, and thus does not know which identity matches to which player. In addition, one of the five identities will be false completely, due to memory failure. Because the Eye Deal cuts his lifespan, all votes against Soichiro in lynches will be doubled for the remainder of the game.
Shuichi Aizawa – Takes his job very seriously and can be rather opinionated, and thus clashes at times with Matsuda and Misa Amane. He has some respect for L, but seems to hold him in contempt. At some point, the tensions may become too high for Aizawa, and he may choose to leave the Japanese Task Force. On two separate occasions, he may start an argument with either Matsuda or Misa, role blocking one of them. Aizawa cannot control which player is blocked, however. If L ever votes for Aizawa in a lynch or vice versa, Aizawa leaves the Japanese Task Force, and gains BTSC with Hideki Ide.
Hideki Ide – Characterized by a fiery temper and a hatred for foolishness, Ide especially does not get along with L, and refuses to abide by his methods. If he ever votes for L to be lynched, his vote that day is worth 5. Gains BTSC with Shuichi Aizawa if Aizawa quits the Japanese Task Force. Due to his short fuse, Ide role blocks a player of his choice every night.
Kanzo Mogi – One of the most dedicated members of the Japanese Task Force, but also one of the most reserved. At any time, Mogi can decide to stop talking. Any time he stops talking for at least 48 hours, he will gain a role check that performs with 50% accuracy (with a 50% chance of instead receiving a randomly redirected result). Assuming he survives at least one cycle after the reveal of his role secrets, he gains an additional role check that performs with 50% accuracy at the end of each subsequent day he is still alive, but is not made aware why. If he dies and L is still alive, a new detective must take over his duties of silence and intelligence gathering. He appoints this player at the time of his death. If, at any time, this player both foregoes their normal role power and stops talking for 48 hours, that player will gain a role check that performs with 50% accuracy.
Touta Matsuda – Enthusiastic but inexperienced, Matsuda means well but often proves a hindrance to his fellow investigators, particularly L. Although he is not convinced that Kira’s killing of criminals is necessarily a bad thing, Matsuda nonetheless remains absolutely dedicated to the Japanese Task Force. His recklessness sometimes pays off, but other times it can get him into trouble. Every night, Matsuda can decide whether to take a risk or play it safe. Additionally, if Higuchi starts killing, Matsuda can instead decide to attempt to spy on Yotsuba. If he does so, he may be able to discover the true identity of the Third Kira, but regardless of his success he may also get caught in the process. If he takes a risk, his vote the subsequent day can be worth 2x, 3x, or 5x, depending on the role of a die. If instead he is not so lucky, he can start the following day with 2, 3, or 5 votes against him. If he plays it safe, his vote is worth 1. At the beginning of each day period, he is made aware what his vote is worth. If he decides to spy on Yotsuba, Matsuda has a 50% chance of catching the real identity of the Third Kira, but a 50% chance of instead uncovering the identity of a different Yotsuba member. In addition, he has a 50% chance of being caught, revealing his true identity to all living members of Yotsuba Group. If Matsuda and Light survive until there are half or less players remaining and Near catches the active Kira during the night, Matsuda shoots Light, killing him, ending the game and winning with his fellow Detectives.
Hirokazu Ukita – Perhaps the most emotional member of the Japanese Task Force, Ukita is nonetheless absolutely determined to catch Kira, and does not hesitate to demonstrate passionate, admirable bravery. If the investigation prospects are looking grim, Ukita may attempt to stop the lynch. He may attempt to do so as many times as he wishes, but he may not stop his own lynch. If he tries to stop the lynch, he has a 50% chance of pardoning the lynch completely, but also a 50% chance of instead sacrificing his own life in lieu of the lynchee.
Near – One of two possible individuals being groomed to be the successor to L in case of disaster, Near is much like a younger version of L: socially awkward, but incredibly intelligent and cunning. If L dies, Near takes over the Kira investigation and starts the Special Provision for Kira (SPK), determined to catch Kira before Mello does. Near cannot be lynched unless L is dead; until that time, he cannot use any role ability. Because of his anonymous existence, he cannot be night killed by Kira unless Kira first knows his role. As head of the SPK, he continues investigating where L left off. At the end of every night, he may either gain anonymous BTSC with any player of his choice for the subsequent day/night cycle, or search for the active Kira. If he finds the active Kira and Matsuda is still alive, the game will end and the Detectives will win. If he finds the active Kira and Matsuda is dead, the game will still end, but Light has a chance of escaping unharmed. This outcome can end in either a Detective win or a Kira win, with the likelihood of each unknown to Near and Light. Because Near does not start investigating until L is dead, he cannot be night killed by Kira, even if Kira knows his role, unless L is dead. If L ever tries to gain anonymous BTSC with a shinigami who has not yet been revealed, his power fails and he gains BTSC with no one, but he is not made aware why. Due to his astute powers of deduction, Near is made aware any time a Death Note changes hands from one killer to another, but only if L is dead (like all of his other role powers).
Mello – One of two possible individuals being groomed to be the successor to L in case of disaster, Mello is always considered to be #2 to Near, a position he resents greatly. His intelligence is also high, but sometimes he lets his emotions get the best of him. If L dies, Mello forfeits the successor position to Near, and joins the mafia. He intends on catching Kira before Near does and will do anything to stop Near from getting ahead. Mello cannot be lynched unless L is dead; until that time, he cannot use any role ability. Because of his anonymous existence, he cannot be night killed by Kira unless Kira first knows his role. He cannot win alongside his fellow Detectives if Near ends the game. Consequently, he may role block Near once to stop him from achieving this. He kidnaps one player every night; for the subsequent day/night cycle, that player cannot participate in the game whatsoever, including posting, voting, role power, and any BTSC. If he kidnaps Kiyomi Takada and the active Kira does not kill her within the subsequent cycle, Mello uncovers which half of the currently living players cannot be the active Kira. If he gains BTSC with Sidoh and Sidoh has not yet found his Death Note, Mello searches every night to help him find it. Assuming Mello and Sidoh share BTSC, once Sidoh has his Death Note, Mello becomes a civ ninja, able to kill a player every night or abstain if he wishes. If he kills the active Kira this way, the game will end and he wins with his fellow Detectives. Because Mello does not start investigating until L is dead, he cannot be night killed by Kira, even if Kira knows his role, unless L is dead. With his Death Note, Mello may control the time of death, as well as conditions triggering death, for each of his victims. However, the soonest that his kill can occur is typical (that night). The latest it can occur is as long as he wishes. In addition, Mello may control the victim's actions before death, which means he may control content of the host post in which his victim is killed.
Raye Penber – An FBI agent who begins investigating Light Yagami when L tells him to. Has BTSC with Naomi. Starting Night 2, he investigates Light every night, possibly uncovering Light’s true identity any time Light kills. As a result of his investigation, he receives a name. This name has a 10% chance of being Light's true identity, but a 90% chance of instead being a randomly redirected result. Every time Light kills a member of the Japanese Task Force, Raye's chance to uncover Light’s true identity increases by 5%. If Light is not killing, he receives no result. He stops investigating Light at some point.
Naomi Misora – A former FBI agent and fiancée of Raye Penber. If Raye dies while investigating Light, she picks up where he left off. Has BTSC with Raye. If Raye dies while investigating Light, she investigates Light every night, possibly uncovering his true identity any time Light kills. As a result of her investigation, she receives a name. This name has a 20% chance of being Light's true identity, but a 80% chance of instead being a randomly redirected result. If Light is not killing, she receives no result. She never stops investigating him until she dies.
Yotsuba Group (7)
While Higuchi possesses a Death Note, every night all members of Yotsuba decide on whom Kira should kill. They do not share BTSC by default. Members of Yotsuba Group win by ??????.
Kyosuke Higuchi (Third Kira) – A very greedy and power-hungry man who becomes the owner of a Death Note if a certain chain of events occurs. However, little does he know he is no more than a tool in an elaborate scheme orchestrated by the original Kira. Each night, while in possession of a Death Note, he votes on a victim for Kira to kill, concealing the fact that he is actually the one deciding others’ fates. Higuchi cannot be lynched or night killed until he receives a Death Note; thereafter, even if the Note is taken from him, he can die. When he possesses a Death Note, all members of Yotsuba vote on a player to die every night, but Higuchi has a choice to override the player to be killed. However, if he does so, he risks the chance of outing himself to his fellow members. Each member currently alive has a 25% chance of learning Higuchi’s real identity every time a kill is overriden, with a 75% chance of instead receiving a randomly redirected result. When he gains his Death Note, he is offered the Shinigami Eye Deal. If Higuchi takes the Eye Deal, he can role check two players every night but he must kill one of those two players; this only applies if he overrides the kill selection. If Higuchi currently cannot kill with a Death Note or does not override the kill target, he cannot role check anyone. Because the Eye Deal cuts his lifespan, all votes against Higuchi in lynches will be doubled for the remainder of the game. If Higuchi refuses the Eye Deal, he still may change his mind and accept it later at any time. If Higuchi either completes his win condition or dies, he relinquishes ownership of the Death Note back to Light, losing BTSC with Rem. As Kira, he may control the time of death, as well as conditions triggering death, for each of his victims. However, the soonest that his kill can occur is typical (that night). The latest it can occur is as long as he wishes. In addition, Kira may control the victim's actions before death, which means he may control content of the host post in which his victim is killed.Shingo Mido - After Higuchi has killed two victims, he invites Namikawa, Shimura, and Ooi to a secret meeting. Mido, Namikawa, Shimura, and Ooi gain temporary BTSC; the secret meeting lasts one full day/night cycle.
Reiji Namikawa – After Higuchi has killed one victim, he receives an anonymous phone call. During the anonymous phone call, he discovers the "real identity" of Higuchi. The phone call is received at the end of the day subsequent to the victim's death. Namikawa's phone call is really a survey of all living Detectives as well as Light's guesses as to who Higuchi is. The player with the most votes (if a tie, randomized among the top vote receivers) is the "real identity" told to Namikawa.
Suguru Shimura
Eiichi Takahashi
Masahiko Kida
Takeshi Ooi
Kira and His Sympathizers (7)
Unlike typical baddie teams, these roles do not all share BTSC by default. See individual roles for publicly known BTSC information. Kira and His Sympathizers win when Kira has eliminated the Detectives and subsequently starts his utopian New World.
Light Yagami (Kira) – The initial finder of a Death Note, Light is a high-school senior who quickly grows obsessed with power, declaring himself the ultimate decider of criminals’ fates. Determined to create a new perfect world without evil, Light will manipulate or kill anyone in his way. Has BTSC with Ryuk. Writes a player’s name in the Death Note every night, killing them. Arrogant and incredibly manipulative, Light feels no true alliance to anyone but himself, and thus can kill any human, even one of his supporters. Once Misa starts killing, Light may send a message to her every day. If certain events occur, he and Ryuk may gain BTSC with Misa and Rem. At any time, Light may choose to forfeit ownership of the Death Note. If he does so, Higuchi receives the Death Note. Under certain circumstances, Light may regain the Death Note. After regaining it, he may subsequently pass it on to Mikami at any time, but he cannot regain the Death Note again unless Mikami is killed. While not possessing a Death Note, Light cannot be lynched or night killed. At all times after Light and Misa gain permanent BTSC, only one Kira may be killing at a time. Thus, if Higuchi or Mikami possess a Death Note, Light and Misa must abstain, even if one of them also has a Death Note. If the active Kira is ever caught by Near, Light may have a chance to still win, but only if Matsuda is dead. Whenever Raye or Naomi is following him or stop following him, Light is made aware. Light has a piece of the Death Note hidden in his watch which may be used to kill one player of his choice at any time, regardless of whether he currently possesses a Death Note. For all intents and purposes, this does not qualify as the Death Note; therefore, he cannot be lynched or night killed even while he has the ability to still use this piece of Death Note. Once they share BTSC, Misa and Light may use each other's notebook to kill without the original owner necessarily forfeiting ownership. Therefore, Light may still kill using Misa's Death Note, and still satisfy the conditions for not possessing one, and vice versa. If L is night killed, Light has the option to take over the gossip role aspect of L's role. As Kira, Light may control the time of death, as well as conditions triggering death, for each of his victims. However, the soonest that his kill can occur is typical (that night). The latest it can occur is as long as he wishes. In addition, Kira may control the victim's actions before death, which means he may control content of the host post in which his victim is killed.Ryuk – A shinigami who appears to Light shortly after he discovers his Death Note, Ryuk explains that he has to stay with Light until he either dies or the Death Note is destroyed, and that he ‘dropped’ the Death Note into the human world because he was bored. As a shinigami, he cannot be harmed by humans, nor can he be seen by humans who have not made contact with his Death Note. Oh, and he loves apples. Has BTSC with Light Yagami. Because he is a shinigami, votes by humans in lynches do not affect him, and writing his name down in a Death Note will not kill him. Thus, he cannot be lynched or night killed. However, if he is about to be killed for the second time, although he will still not die, his existence will be made aware to everyone, outing him. Even though Ryuk refuses to take sides and often finds pleasure at Light’s misfortunes, he accompanies Light, and even may assist him. Once Raye Penber has started following Light, Ryuk offers Light the Shinigami Eye deal. If Light takes the offer, Light can role check two players every night but he must kill one of those two players. If Light currently cannot kill with a Death Note, he cannot role check anyone. Because the Eye Deal cuts his lifespan, all votes against Light in lynches will be doubled for the remainder of the game. If Light refuses the Eye Deal, he still may change his mind and accept it later at any time.
Misa Amane (Second Kira) – A famous model whose parents were murdered by a man that Kira kills with his Death Note, Misa becomes infatuated with Kira and makes desperate moves to meet him. She thereafter becomes Light’s girlfriend, incredibly complacent to his demands. Gains BTSC with Rem when she receives her Death Note. At some point, she gains a Death Note. Once she starts killing, she may send a message to Light every night, and her kill fails automatically if she uses it against him. She stops at nothing to gain Light’s attention, and at some point may gain permanent BTSC with him. Because of a romantic rivalry with Kiyomi Takada, her vote is worth 3 if she ever votes for Takada. At any time, Misa may forfeit ownership of her Death Note. If she does so, she cannot use a Death Note for the remainder of the game, but for the subsequent three days she cannot be lynched. Misa gains her Death Note at the beginning of Day 3. She gains BTSC with Light after one of their Death Notes has been relinquished or taken by Sidoh, or after the end of Night 5, whichever comes first. Once they share BTSC, Misa and Light may use each other's notebook to kill without the original owner necessarily forfeiting ownership. Therefore, Misa may still kill using Light's Death Note, and still satisfy the conditions for not possessing one, and vice versa. As Kira, Misa may control the time of death, as well as conditions triggering death, for each of her victims. However, the soonest that her kill can occur is typical (that night). The latest it can occur is as long as she wishes. In addition, Kira may control the victim's actions before death, which means she may control content of the host post in which her victim is killed.
Rem – A shinigami who appears to Misa after she discovers her Death Note, Rem accompanies Misa and guards her at any cost. As a shinigami, she cannot be harmed by humans, nor can she be seen by humans who have not made contact with her Death Note. Gains BTSC with Misa Amane when she gives her the Death Note. Because she is a shinigami, votes by humans in lynches do not affect her, and writing her name down in a Death Note will not kill her. Thus, she cannot be lynched or night killed. However, if she is about to be killed for the second time, although she will still not die, her existence will be made aware to everyone, outing her. Even before giving the Death Note to Misa, she knows Misa’s identity. In addition, if Misa is targeted for a night kill before Misa gains her Death Note, Rem absorbs the kill automatically, ensuring Misa's survival. Certain events must occur before she will give up her Death Note to Misa. Once she does so, Rem serves as Misa's guardian, doing anything she can to protect her. If she ever feels Misa is being threatened, Rem may write down the name of a human in her Death Note at any time, killing them regardless of whether they cannot be lynched or night killed; however, if she does so, she will also die. If Misa ever dies, Rem retreats to the Shinigami Realm, leaving the game. When Higuchi starts killing, Rem gains BTSC with him, losing it with Misa, and also with Light and Ryuk, if she had previously gained it. She may regain BTSC with her former BTSCmate(s) and lose it with Higuchi under certain circumstances. Immediately as she gains BTSC with Misa, Rem offers her the Shinigami Eye deal. If Misa takes the Shinigami Eye deal, Misa can role check two players every night but she or Light must kill one of those two players. If neither of them can currently kill with a Death Note, she cannot role check anyone. Because the Eye Deal cuts her lifespan, all votes against Misa in lynches will be doubled for the remainder of the game. If Misa refuses the Eye Deal, she still may change her mind and accept it later at any time. Rem offers this same deal to Higuchi when he gains a Death Note. Once she gains BTSC with Light, she receives a message from her conscience. If Rem ever uses her ability to kill any player, thereby killing herself, she will be notified at the submission of her kill that she can actually kill two players of her choice, but must select the second player within 24 hours. This player will also be killed regardless of whether they cannot be lynched or night killed. After she dies, her Death Note is subsequently able to be used, and will be taken by Light.
Teru Mikami (X Kira) – As a devoted worshipper of Kira, Mikami has a strong sense of justice and feels evil absolutely must be punished. He adheres to a very strict, daily schedule. If a certain chain of events occurs, Mikami gains a Death Note. At this time, he is offered the Shinigami Eye Deal. If Mikami takes the Eye Deal, he can role check two players every night but he must kill one of those two players. If Mikami currently cannot kill with a Death Note, he cannot role check anyone. Because the Eye Deal cuts his lifespan, all votes against Mikami in lynches will be doubled for the remainder of the game. If Mikami refuses the Eye Deal, he still may change his mind and accept it later at any time. At some point, he gains BTSC with Kiyomi Takada. At this time, per Light's orders, he creates a fake Death Note. If Mikami is ever found by Near, Near finds the fake Death Note, delaying Near's capture of Mikami for an additional two cycles. Mikami gains BTSC with Takada only once he has started killing. If Takada is deceased at that time, Mikami will not be able to contact anyone, but god (Light) will be made aware of his true identity. Due to Mikami's shared sense of justice and obsessive support of Kira, he is made aware immediately of the first vote that is cast against Light in any lynch, revealing Light's identity to him. At that time, he is given the option to commit suicide at any time thereafter. If he commits suicide: the day or night period ends immediately, he dies in lieu of the lynchee or night target(s) and his role is revealed, and his death is followed by two consecutive nights. As Kira, Mikami may control the time of death, as well as conditions triggering death, for each of his victims. However, the soonest that his kill can occur is typical (that night). The latest it can occur is as long as he wishes. In addition, Kira may control the victim's actions before death, which means he may control content of the host post in which his victim is killed.
Kiyomi Takada – Classmate and former girlfriend of Light Yagami, Takada becomes the official spokeswoman for Kira if Demegawa dies. Like Demegawa, she may only be Kira's spokeswoman after L has died. If Mikami starts killing, she gains BTSC with both Light and Mikami separately, facilitating communication among the three of them. Because of a romantic rivalry with Misa Amane, her vote is worth 3 if she ever votes for Misa. If she has become Kira's spokeswoman, every night she can force one player to vote the way she wishes the subsequent day.
Hitoshi Demegawa – A very greedy man who feeds off of publicity, Demegawa is director of Sakura TV. If L dies, Demegawa asserts himself as Kira’s spokesman and constantly rallies for Kira supporters to participate in various violent acts of protest. If he has become Kira’s spokesman, every night he can coordinate an attack on SPK headquarters in an attempt to role block Near, with a 25% success rate.
Independent (1)
Sidoh wins if he both makes his existence known to everyone and retrieves his Death Note from whoever has it; assuming he has completed both, he can then win with any team.
Sidoh – A shinigami whose Death Note was stolen, he searches for Ryuk every night to retrieve his notebook. If he finds Mello, something happens. As a shinigami, he cannot be harmed by humans, nor can he be seen by humans who have not made contact with his Death Note. Every night he searches for his Death Note, which was stolen by Ryuk. If he finds Mello, Sidoh reveals himself to Mello and they gain BTSC. Every night he must also pick four roles and publicly reveal their secrets so that everyone is made aware; all of these selections cannot be from the same team, unless only one team has secrets remaining. Once Sidoh finds his Death Note, he steals it from its current owner, ending that player's ability to kill with the notebook. As a shinigami, like Ryuk, he does not kill players using his notebook. After he has revealed all of the role secrets, more secrets are revealed, but are represented in tildes. These additional secrets are secrets that were not explicit in each player's role PM, and thus the player who has that role may or may not be aware of them. Any letters revealed among the tildes are only made known to Sidoh, not publicly. Every time Sidoh successfully solves a role's additional secrets behind the scenes, those secrets are revealed publicly in full. For every role's secrets that Sidoh solves with four or less revealed letters, both Sidoh and the player whose additional role secrets he has solved, assuming that player is still alive, gain an extra vote to be used secretly in any subsequent lynch.
