Cerberus Tribe - Day 9

The champions boarded the train at Ridgecrest. It was the height of opulence, fit out with only the best of everything; Ossetran Caviar, Dom Perignon, other Dom, perfectly tailored tuxedos, the McGoogle search engine, pristine peacocks, velvet cushions...

Hang on a minute, the McGoogle search engine? Spacedaisy immediately realised something was wrong. Whispers passed through the carriage like wildfire. Scotty and Kylemii were in one corner, talking worriedly. LoRab and Long Con were hunched over a notebook, working out what it all meant. MacDougall had been working on his start-up, McGoogle, for some time. Far from being state-of-the-art, it was an abject failure. An incongruent piece in what was otherwise a wealthy scene. However, everyone knew that Mac himself believed it was the solution to all of the Syndicate's security woes, and issue that had plagued them since the Russian hacking attack of early 2017. Perhaps, one day, it might have been...

"I remember those hackers" said Quin. "They deprived the world of one of my greatest mafia performances of all time."

Investigating further, S~V~S declared what everyone suspected. "MacDougall is on this train when he isn't even a champion, and it's no accident. He's the engineer, and he's been murdered. As best I can tell, the train cannot be stopped!"

"Why can't it be stopped?" asked DrWilgy, pulling on every lever he could find "this shouldn't be that hard." He then spotted the bright orange lever right in the middle, at eyesight level, that said "BRAKE" in big black letters. "What about this one?", Wilgy asked. Nutella pulled it, but it snapped off in her hands.

"It's no use at all" said Epignosis.
"This train runs on your haiku
it's the entry fee."

Nijuukyugou got out the operating manual. Sure enough, there it was. The levers operated automatically, by power of haiku. Perhaps MacDougall was a genius engineer after all, but his talent had been cut short, and no-one could understand exactly how it worked, or what they could do to fix the situation.

"Please train, apply brakes
I'm shit at writing haiku
Refridgerator" said insertnamehere

"The Marmot is here
Perhaps a little self-vote
Will solve all our woes" cried Marmot

"How unfortunate
We are all about to die
Jay could have fixed this" wailed Sloonei

"Why won't you slow down
Don't you know how hard it is
counting seventeen?" beseeched Dragon D Luffy

None of it worked. Several of the champions turned pale. Not everyone had looked at their ticket before boarding the train, and some of them failed to provide the correct fee for joining the trip. Now their failures were possibly going to cost all 23 passengers on board their lives.

The train picked up speed as it reached Fiji. Sig scrambled around looking for one of those cards that explains the correct brace position on a train, but for some reason none existed. Sprityo had the vague feeling that he remembered something about a murder on a train before. Everyone got in to the best position they could for impact... but the impact never came.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone looked around. All that was left was half a carriage... and half of them. They looked around and realised that they were on a beach, on an island. Exactly what they were doing here, they couldn't be sure. Suddenly, there was a flash, and a vision opened up before them.
Day six has ended. Colonialbob has been lynched. He was:
13: Charlie Pace. No matter what you do, you're going to die, brotha! You will consume the lynch on day 6, but you are immune from any form of death until that point.
The vision ended as abruptly as it had begun. But just one thing was on everyone's mind - accountability for those who did not haiku!
Day One has begun. You have 48 hours to lynch somebody. All players who paid the correct entry fee will be immune.
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Day 1
The players have been randomly split into two tribes. Your tribe is the Cerberus tribe. The players currently alive here are:
Boomslang
colonialbob
dom
Dragon D. Luffy
insertnamehere
LoRab
Nijuukyugou
Quin
sig
Speedchuck
S~V~S
When using targeted abilities, you may only target people on your tribe.
The following two roles were present in this tribe at game start:
39: Tina Wesson (Survivor). Each night, you may choose one player to inject with an innoculation to a particular virus. Any player who is given the innoculation will be unable to catch the virus and will be cured if they already have it. You may not target the same player twice.
42: The button (Chicka Chicka 1, 2, 3). The button does something - do you want to press it? You may press the button at any time.
Please remember that there is NO INFODUMPING of any kind allowed.
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Day 1
"Captain, I cannae mind the mute all day" said Scotty.
"What is he talking about?" asked sloonei "I'm not mute. I'm not a captain, either.".
"He's not talking about you." said Marmot "He's talking about JackofHearts. Every since that vision, he's done nothing but sit in the wreck of the train carriage pulling his beard hairs out one by one.
We're all quite worried about him."
"I don't understand" said Sloonei "Why are we not talking about me? Tell me what you think of me!"
"Err" said LoRab "You're.... fine, I suppose?"
"FINE!" yelled Sloonei "Why, I can make a rainbow appear just with a snap of my fingers." Sloonei snapped his fingers, the rain stopped, and a rainbow stretched across the sky.
Kylemii said "Ah yes, I know that trick. I used to produce rainbows from my..."
"Wait" sig interrupted "shouldn't we be trying to find and lynch someone who didn't pay the entry fee?"
"We don't even know who did and who didn't" said inh "Life is pointless."
"You jerks never killed me" mumbled sloonei to no-one in particular, reflecting on his own past mafia performances.
"I'm proud of us" said Daisy "we haven't even been distracted by this haiku nonsense. It's all been about finding whoever killed Mac. I'm glad we've got our priorities straight."
Everyone stopped dead in their tracks. Oh my god, Daisy was right! Mac was murdered! And here they were bickering about who had written a haiku.
"Yes, exactly" said DrWilgy "That's what we've all been doing."
"Absolutely" said ninja "No other thought has entered my head whatsoever." Ninja was mostly thinking of Boomslang.
"No other thought entered my mind" Boomslang declared "as if we would be distracted by petty nonsense." Boomslang was mostly distracted by ninja.
"It was all my idea" said Sloonei.
"I can't believe no-one noticed I was speaking in a ridiculous accent" said Scotty.
"Has anyone got some weed?" asked Jack.
Day 1 has ended. Quin has not been lynched (he paid the entry fee).
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Night 1
As night fell, everyone fell in to different tasks. Some people found firewood, some went looking for fresh water, others started building the shelter. Then there were those who believed that they might be being pitted against each other in some cosmic game of Survivor - they went hunting for immunity idols.
It wasn’t hard at all for an agreement to be made in the shadows, and then for the deal to be carried out. There was no doubt that the Citadel Council would reward them handsomely for this - it was a first test of their reanimating technology, whereby a body would survive death, but be forever changed in to someone... and possibly something... else.
A muffled shot probably rang out in the forest, but no one was there to hear it.
Night 1 has ended. Nijuukyugou has died. She was:
97: Electron (Elemental). You have BTSC with Proton. You will be sent a chat link for BTSC and must log in as "Electron". Each night, you will PM one element to the hosts (Air, Earth, Wind or Fire) and one player to be targeted for any effect the element may have. While Proton is in the game, they will also choose one element out of Air, Earth, Wind or Fire. When you and Proton are both in the game, your element choices will combine to form one effect. Proton's target will get the benefit of any positive effect, while your target will suffer any negative effect. You may not choose the same pair of elements until each pair has been selected. If Proton dies before you, you may not select the same element on consecutive nights. You may not select the same target on consecutive nights. You will not be informed of the effects of your elements.
It is now day 2. You have 48 hours to figure out who is doing the Citadel Council’s bidding.
Effective immediately, requirements for voting in the thread have changed.
Instead of using the vote tag, please vote in dead red like so:
VOTE XXXXXXX
It doesn't have to be on a separate line and, if you're required to post in a particular way, should be consistent with that requirement! You must still use the word aubergine somewhere in your vote post, but it can be in small font if you choose.
Are roles assigned randomly as first and second roles? That is, could there be only one mafia in this tribe?
Anyone besides Marmot feel like self voting?
2nd roles are not assigned randomly. They were paired and the players received a pair at random.
As was noted in the second post of the thread, the split of players into tribes was random. There is no guarantee of any particular number or ratio of any alignment in the tribe.
"I am Sloonei! Come to Sloonei. Don't vote for Sloonei. What do you think about Sloonei? Have you seen Sloonei lately? Vote for Sloonei. Sloonei Sloonei Sloonei!" said Sloonei to a passing tree.
"Looks like he found the weed." said Jack "Don't worry, though, I'm over my PTSD and I'm here to party."
"Playing clothes-man hard to read" sang inh.
Marmot was looking at his reflection in the remains of the train carriage. "Looking good" he said, thinking about exactly how he could tailor his facial hair with tools only found on the beach. Hermit crabs? Seaweed? That weird foam that stays on the beach after high tide?
"I have an idea" said Daisy "if we all spread out, that Citadel Council won't be able to get to any of us. We'll be too hard to hit."
"That's a terrible idea" said DrWilgy "if we all huddle together, they'll be exposed. They'd never risk an attack in such circumstances."
"I'd like to fork my pleasure to zap his fierce style" sang inh.
The argument continued. No-one could agree how to protect the group. No-one could agree who had attacked ninja to begin with. In the end, they all gave up.
"Let's build a bowling alley" said sig.
Day 2 has ended. Speedchuck has been shot by a crossbow (lynched). He was:
71: Levi Strauss (Felt 2). Each night, you will choose one player to protect from all nightkills. You may not target the same player two nights in a row.
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Night 2
MacDougall was hunched in a corner, musing to himself about how best to put his plans into actions. His acolytes were waiting for instruction.
"Those fools" said MacDougall "They actually believe the Citadel Council put MacGoogle into the system. And did they really think I would be hired to be a train engineer? This lot are so naive. They couldn't even tell that I'd faked my own death.
But we have a problem. The Citadel Council have clearly got plants, people in the system who are doing their bidding. It's getting in the way of my plans for world dominance. Or at least, for dominance of the Syndicate once and for all. I see no other option, devotees. It's time to be ruthless."
"We know what we must do." said an acolyte. They stood up and departed.
Night 2 has ended. Scotty has been killed. He was:
Infinity: The Reapers (Mass Effect). You are only here to influence the minds of all sentient beings and then reap their souls. You can insanify a player of your choice each night.
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Night 3
The hired guns of the Citadel Council met once again in the dark of night. So far, the re-animation technology appeared to be going off without a hitch, although there was something a little bit weird about Ninja's jaw, and every now and then Scotty would yell "FREEDOM" for no particular reason. All in all, though, everyone seemed to be doing ok. It didn't hurt so much that someone had taken out Scotty in the dead of the previous night, although perhaps it was a little worrying that they weren't the only ones without an agenda.
Nevertheless, they had clear instructions from the Council. Continue their work. They chose their next target, and pulled the trigger.
Night 3 has ended. JackofHearts2005 has died. He was:
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Day 4
An unfortunate side-effect of resurrection - sometimes it can be difficult to tell exactly who died.
The hosts have made a rather sizeable error. We thought that Dragon D. Luffy had been killed, but upon further observation it has been clear that he is acting more or less the same as usual. Nutella,
on the other hand - there's definitely something different about her.
As a result, we are reissuing the results of the day three lynch.
Nutella has died. She was:
86: Proton (Elemental) - You have BTSC with Electron. You will be sent a chat link for BTSC and must log in as "Proton". Each night, you will PM one element to the hosts (Air, Earth, Wind or Fire) and one player to be targeted for any effect the element may have. You will not be informed of the effects of your elements.
That was day 3. Then came night 4. It is still day 4.
Dragon D. Luffy has had his first life restored, but to be fair to all he will remain in his second role for both lives. His role will not be revealed upon his first death.
(To be clear, this is not a player ability causing this - it is a genuine host error. There was something we missed at the time, and have identified upon review. As it happened, in the context of this particular setup there was an easily available option to fix the issue.)
I don't think you see that. For one thing, seeing that I have removed something is an oxymoron. You wouldn't be able to see that I had removed it. Day 4 has ended. Long Con has been lynched. He was:
Each day where you vote for a member of the mafia, the worth of your vote will increase by one. Each day where you vote for a civilian, the worth of your vote will decrease by one. Re: Cerberus Tribe - Day 5
Everyone was going a little stir crazy on the Cerberus beach. It was day five, and they hadn't been able to get enough votes on anyone to lynch a soul yet.
"Perhaps..." said sloonei - but he was too demoralised to finish the thought.
"Never fear, I'm here!" said Jack. "I'm all for lynching, just follow me." He walked off along the beach.
"Right, now that Jack's gone, what should we do?" asked Spacedaisy. "I'm inclined to..." but she found she couldn't finish the thought either.
"Let's just give in" said LoRab miserably "We'll never be able to make any difference."
Wilgy was walking around with a scalpel and a stethoscope. People were used to his roleplaying by now, so they ignored him.
"How about a game of beach volleyball?" asked Kyle. Everyone cheered! And they went to play.
Day 5 has ended. Long Con has been lynched. He was:
96: Michaelangelo, forger (Phenon). You may choose one player, and have them appear as any affiliation that you wish upon death. You may change the identity of that player at any time other than during the last hour of a phase. You are MAFIA and a member of the EVIL EVENS.
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Day 6
The mood was listless. People were without energy, feeling the impeding inevitability of a colonialbob lynch.
“Make Cerberus Great Again” campaigned sloonei “Vote Marmot 2018”.
There were a few muffled cheers. Also, a handful of snores. The truth was, Cerberus really just didn’t see the point. They’d failed to achieve anything in the previous 5 days – why would today be any different?
Day 6 has ended. colonialbob has been lynched. He was:
13: Charlie Pace (Lost Again: Season 3). At the beginning of the game, it will be announced that you are Charlie Pace and that you will die at the end of day 6. In reality, this is not true. You are Charlie Pace, but your actual role is to curse the person who casts the final vote to lynch you or who nightkills you. If that person is in their 1st role, their vote will count zero and they will be unable to win while they remain in that role. If that person is in their 2nd role, they will be strapped to a bomb vest and will have to complete three tasks by day end to defuse the vest.
When you die and get a new role, we don’t know alignment may be different, yeah? That is, could it be an okay thing to get lynched as mafia?
Are roles assigned randomly as first and second roles? That is, could there be only one mafia in this tribe?
Anyone besides Marmot feel like self voting?
2nd roles are not assigned randomly. They were paired and the players received a pair at random.
As was noted in the second post of the thread, the split of players into tribes was random. There is no guarantee of any particular number or ratio of any alignment in the tribe.
That doesn't seem like a tricksy host answer, but I guess it could be.
There is no trick. I put all your names in a randomiser. The first half went to one beach, the next half to another.
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Night 6
MacDougall rubbed his hands with glee. His acolytes had done all he wanted and more. They'd followed his directions to perfection. Well, almost perfection... there was that small matter off the blizzard. But never mind. The Citadel Council might hope to mess with his plans, but he was feeling confident.
"Acolytes" said MacDougall "You have my orders. Go execute them." And his acolytes did.
Night 6 has ended. S~V~S has died. She was:
58: The Asian Flu (Chicka Chicka 1, 2, 3). Any person who votes for you will contract the asian flu unless they are innoculated, and will have a 10% chance of dying in place of the lynch or nightkill. Effect will persist until innoculated. Up to 10 people may be infected in this way at a time. Once innoculated, a person cannot be reinfected.
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Day 7
Scotty woke up. He realised that his hastily painted ‘vote marmot 2018’ had been resting on his face during the night and he now had “8102 ƚomɿɒM ɘƚoV” printed in blue on his left cheek.
“We absolutely, under all circumstances, must have a lynch today” said Marmot “For these reasons, I propose that we vote me. I’m used to doing that anyway.” And Marmot self-voted
“All in favour?” asked LoRab
All hands shot up. It was decided. Now they could resume sports. They had recently discovered that someone had left an unused golf course in a field near the beach. They wandered off to play.
“Who is bidoff?” asked sig
“I’m not sure” said Spacedaisy “but if they could help me move house, let me know. I’m sick of Fiji, I want to go to California.” She looked over at the remains of the train carriage wistfully.
Day 7 has ended. Marmot has been lynched. He was:
79: Mt Erebus (Mountain). Frequent blizzards cause loss of visibility. Twice in the game, once during a day phase and once during a night phase, you may prevent any abilities or effects from occurring. Any x-shot abilities used will consume a shot. If any ability or effect has already taken place before you use your ability in a phase, your ability will be consumed without effect, however there will be a risk of death to those who have ventured out into the blizzard.
Re: Cerberus Tribe - Night 7
There was a bright flash in the sky. Everyone shielded their eyes, but they found themselves disoriented. No-one could do much for a while, but when they came to, some of them found that they had moved to an entirely new beach. And there was the wreckage of the other half of the train, with them!
They went around, discovering and talking to old friends. In the confusion, it wasn't at all hard for the Citadel Council to arrange a kill. This time, they wanted one of their reanimated subjects back for good - what use is new technology if you can't study it's effects at close quarters? Yes, a dissection was clearly necessary.
Night 7 has ended. JackofHearts2005 has died. He was:
80: Reloader (Greater Idea). You may target someone each night. If they have previously used a one-shot ability they will regain it. You may only target each player once in the game.
I think DH is town. (He's also not in this tribe)
But he mindmelded with me pretty often, and his scumhunting has seemed genuine in motive. He hasn't been opportunistic or pushy.
I know he isn't in this tribe. We can't discuss prior thoughts on people in the other tribe?
Of course you may, but you can only interact with, target etc people on your own current tribe just as before.
If a player is civilian in their first role and mafia in their second, if they haven't moved to their second role by the time all living mafia are killed does the game end?
If all players are civilian or at least not anti-town at any given point, the game will end and the civilians will win.
