quick note that I'm a pre-game replacement (see: signup poll) but I'll try to attend to this large game as much as I can

but at some points or days my time may be very limited

while I haven't been in the game much

to me it looks like this could fail for two reasons

1) They could be very silly or its just a personalized way of reacting to stuff
2) "Look towny" is a very broad thing because there are so many ways one can be town but not look it and vice versa

I think I've seen scum say similar before, but generally to partners rather than townies. I have a weak townread on Michelle just because of the amount of content she's giving and that she seems fairly comfortable (and I think those things are AI for her).

So do you think such a read by me at that time (either by how it was formed or what it is) is wrong?

Or are you just giving an example or note for something that you think is >rand town but not impossible for mafia to do or say?

Like you basically start off saying that "Mafia can do X" or they have in the past under X circumstance, then not comment on the plausibility of it, and then for some reason give your own reasons or read on Michelle without ever saying that you think I'm right or wrong for what I thought or did.

Like, this feels and looks more focused on your position with regards to Michelle rather than answering my question in a practical manner.

the problem is that I am going to be notoriously unreliable at that point in time given my lack of effort and time into the game

I mean, there's no good purpose to it and generally speaking I like things that have a discerning (i.e. regarding judgment of a subject) purpose to them.

If you randomly select a person then clearly this isn't related to them specifically and thus has no discerning purpose with respect to them.

In short, its pointless and not worthwhile even though it may be interesting IMO

But looking at their ISO for the past 30 posts or so I kinda feel like I should give them the benefit of the doubt and call them a town-lean. If they're scum then I'll learn to take greater care on reading them. However, I have this gut feeling they're playing or thinking in a similar manner as to they once were in Grasslands. Like, it feels familiar and I don't want to muddy that with thoughts of WIFOM.

It's not a direct response to anything, it's a line of thought I went down by myself after people called my tone stiff.

Yeah this does feel like the Thunal (in terms of thinking) I saw in Grasslands once.

I want to trust that gut feeling.

The only problem I could see is this, but I would argue that since it comes into play with their thinking and analysis so often, its probably difficult to keep a consistent behavior of not stating the obvious. Especially since their recent post here, in this game:

Suggests trying to be open with all of their thoughts and that IMO their tone was overall good here, though not to a clearing degree.

Not to mention, them "not stating the obvious" was actually the clear cause of them getting into a TvT for said Grasslands game. (<- Link to a huge post about it)

Not to mention this game COULD be multi-ball and hence they may feel more need to say it than before.

I'm not sure if a "solving spark" is a good enough thing to look into. I mean its a big vague as it doesn't seem to specify if it is looking at, for example, motivation or just the happenstance of actually solving people. Or if its simply gut feeling.

I would disagree with motivation, I feel like they're motivated a fair bit even though they as of late have said they're demotivated.

Additionally, "not solving people" I think they may be more inclined to actually do that more often as mafia unless they're 3p. Reason being that by extension knowing you're a factional evil and all the other evils in your faction, regardless if there is multiball, means anyone who's not you or your buddies is more likely to be town than it is for any town who's unaware of everything.

Not to mention, this has 27 players in it. you could presumably throw out a strong town-read or two and get away with it without boxing oneself in.

If this "solving spark" refers to something else, please let me know.

There isn't a "summary" because its really simple.

They mentioned their vote like...in a bad way. I was pinged similarly (and correctly) in Shadow Corridors by a sock-puppet responding to someone pressuring them on D0 that "they'll have their vote tomorrow" or something.

Like, I don't know what you think, but towns rarely think publicly of their vote except for like consolidating it / finding an EoD solution.

Additionally, mentioning one's own's vote really doesn't help to solve anyone, and its just weird.

So it just ends up looking like a bad knee-jerk reaction (considering time stamps) to me that was influenced by self-consciousness.

I also haven't been impressed by Falcon other than his consistency in trying to be funny with Gifs.

(Which tbh I kinda view jokes as close to null/NAI, if not scum-lean but that may be just personality differences)

I would agree overall with your hyena case, and I'll likely sheep it in the future if there's no one else who should be executed.

However, I do recall the role that was used in U-Pick, which I'm guessing its being referred to. I would like to point out there's a distinct difference between "I can communicate with any dead player" (which is what U-Pick had, I believe) and "I can chose someone who's alive to have a chat with someone who is dead each phase". Regardless though I believe both roles aren't necessarily or inherently towny, but I think its an important distinction nonetheless to make.

Keep doing what needs to be done

"What needs to be done" is for people to not scum-read Thunal. As I've said I feel like they're quite similar, or at least in mindset or thought process, as compared to their Grasslands game.

I really would not like to believe they can replicate that as scum until they prove me wrong. It'll just cause problems for me in future games with them if I keep on fearing "but what if they're just really really good at copying their town game".

I don't remember who started it, but nutella gave some ISOs of Cat in previous games and said that Cat was more like their scum game, and I read the ISOs and agreed. I feel like now they're different from both metas and their reaction to being wagoned looks towny.

In that case they may be trying to shake things up regardless of alignment.

I think that's a satisfactory case and I don't see much or any of a counter argument to it unless we start conjecturing some things of what Cat must've been thinking but never said in a towny light.

I'm not sold on Made though; I've seen (and quite frankly experienced) towns being portrayed as partners to someone as the sole explicit reason of being scum and then getting mischopped for it.
