Re: Pirate Mafia [DAY 1]
it's a good choice, statistically, to go with a no lynch -- yes. In a 12-person game with three mutineers, you have a better chance to lynch a mutineer on Day 2 than Day 1 -- undoubtedly. A lot of this game is gut instinct, though. Day 1 gut insticts are shittier than all the other days by a small margin, but there's still some info and intel you can garner from a Day 1 lynch. Pirates' strongest weapon is the lynch, and by choosing not to use it, it makes Day 1 a bit of a waste. I've found even mislynches and Day 1 wrongs can be helpful in scum-hunting.speedchuck wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2017 3:55 pmFor the reasons that I outlines, or for some other nebulous non-scientific reasons?

but let's also not
bad first post. leaning scummy for sig.
the fact that sig posts a few posts immediately before and kyle (my other scumspect) calls out 3 other players itt at the time to give their scumspects but ignores sig also doesn't sit as well with me.
but then sig posts this:
and now I feel pretty good about sig. A scum wouldn't ask the cop to roleclaim as soon as they have a lead on day 1. A scum wouldn't be telling power roles what to do at all on day 1. His later clarification on why 1 PR civ is equal as 1 scum. I can follow that logic. I dig his reasons. I dig his gall. I dig his persona.sig wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2017 12:10 am Also and I should've brought this up sooner, but If we have a cop and they get a red check I suggest they role claim immediately, with only 3 mafia members sacrificing the cop to get a mafia member is worth it, also other civs should take advantage of role claiming if they have useful information that will catch mafia members, AND I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH AS A CIV DONT FAKE CLAIM COP!!!!!!!!!!

Pushed Dunya for questioning him.
Didn't give LC any slack for his D1 No Lynch bit.
Pushed Sig over his cop-claim bit.
Voted out in the thread to make a statement.
It's more of a tone-read to me, but I feel like DDL is going around and flicking everyone on the nose. MP is bad about not doing scumreads. LC was getting townreads from his gambit. Same for Sig and his asking the cop to claim.
The generally towniest or most dangerous players in the game are making things happen, and DDL is going around to bop them on the nose. Not a huge amount, but hey, it's D1. And I want to keep that around.
Also some some of the things he questioned and way he questioned it and reactions to everything make me feel he's town in thought process rather than mafia.

Long Con and sig, going at each other again. I'm sure there was another game I was part of (as a replacement) where this happened with Long Con and someone else, and it was two townies going at each other. sig comes off as more townie, but Long Con is basically reacting as townie Long Con did in that JJJ game.

So everyone here thinks that if the cop sees someone fakeclaim as cop they think they're covering for the real cop? What good does it do to the thread though? Why can't mafia fakeclaim to be cop?
I've never played in a game where civ fakeclaim resulted in good things, so I am entirely biased.

Re: Pirate Mafia [DAY 1]
this post reads as slightly arrogant.
Yes, I take claims seriously. Don't fake claim. Fakeclaims, and further fake results, derail the thread endlessly. I don't give a shit if the real cop gets more nights, you're wasting town effort on wild goosehunts and derailing THEIR efforts. The cop could check every civ in the game before hitting a scum. This game isn't all about the cop...it's a team effort. Plenty of games where the cop died before giving any reads, or gets lynched before targeting a scum prove that Townies can win the game through analysis and intel. Don't fuck that up with fake claims and fake reads.

Re: Pirate Mafia [DAY 1]
i still think everyone pushing for fake claims underestimate how much effort it goes into building evidence and reads, and fake claims can literally blow them away if believed because one person can impact everyone. then you get into fake reads, and people putting effort into analyzing and building new cases on those.
How can you not see that as counterproductive?
This is mafia. This is a team-game. The cop does not win this game for us. The Cop is not the everything, everywhere, at all costs kinda guy. We don't sacrifice everything for the cop, that's just silly or we'd change the whole basis of this game.

I find it difficult to see why you can't at leDy acknowledge there are pros to fake claims from civs. They can and have won games for civilians. But as with any strategy there are risks inherent. I can acknowledgethat. Can you not see the advantages that they provide as well?
I am not telling people to fake role claim. I don't feel the need to tell others how to play. But I am disagreeing with this assertion that fake role claims are bad. And I can both believe fake role claims are good and that people should build cases. There is room for both.

Re: Pirate Mafia [DAY 1]
I am entitled to have an opinion; my opinion is that fake role claims and fake night targets/results derail the thread and confuse town efforts needlessly. I don't have to acknowledge benefits that could work with experienced and when everyone else is on board and everything aligns correctly, with like a 5-10% chance of succeeding. I just think there are better ways to generate conversation, as Quin said was most of the point people do it as well as hiding the real cop... There's literally 1001 other ways to do that.
And anyway, like I said, pointless to keep discussing it and wasting time on this. My opinion or your opinion isn't going to sway how someone is determined to play the game.
