Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 2)
Six confident town reads, if correct, mean the game is locked and everything else is just time spent waiting for the inevitable. It'd be cool if folks could gimme six town reads or more if they've not already.

Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 2)
@NAA, I did consider giving that a more conservative read, so you could be right. I'm not sure I'd call it optimal for them (which impacts my view with Alison in particular), but whatever works is "optimal" enough.

Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 2)
Pseudo-blind interactions
Green - doubt they're mafia teammates
Yellow - could be mafia teammates
~ First and foremost remember that each mafioso alive in this game currently has only one teammate, so that can impact and perhaps dilute the value of this approach. I did it anyway. I left off Rondo and Radishes because I don't think there was a bus vote. I left off Mac because of his claim.
~ This has left me with a bit more uncertainty than I started with, though not necessarily in a way I'd call concerning. I don't think my POE pool is likely to change much if at all. The people I already had town reads on were Mizery, NAA, and tutuu among this group. I'm not feeling like any of those is immediately problematic. NAA (and Nanook) come from a 451 culture of play that inherently renders this kind of solving less useful, because it leaves their posts a bit less thickly written and more emotionless. That's okay and works well within that style. It just lends itself to a bunch of yellows every time I try to do this. It's difficult to conclusively separate players the way that I tend to do so with that approach.
~ Alison doesn't have many good fits here that I can readily identify. I think an argument can be made to pair her with falcon or Dyson, and since there are only two perhaps the solution does lie in there. I do think, however, that this is a good reason for me to vote for someone else in the immediate present. I don't think Dyson is that likely to be mafia, and the team being exactly Alison/falcon isn't probable (in literal terms just by the numbers) -- it also lies in direct conflict with some teamwork I'd like to encourage here (e.g. NAA wants to murder one and protect the other).
~ Tony/falcon stands as one of the game's most obvious options, but similarly to Alison -- he's hard to find a teammate for if not falcon. His other fits are with my town reads. These combined points might point to a town falcon anyway. This isn't a confident matter and I wouldn't pull any of them from the POE pool -- but it might influence my sense of who should be the priority.
~ I'm coming around to motel room being a premier suspect. The Scotty interactions weren't conclusive and can be validly read to his discredit as easily as to his credit. During this process I also found a number of things in his posts that I don't care for right now. I will highlight them in a bit. This also happens to be nicely synergized to a view that Alison doesn't have great mafia fits, given that her own view of motel room is one of suspicion. She could just be right. However, finding a teammate for motel room is also not terribly easy. Nanook and Dyson stand in along with a bunch of town reads.
~ I could make the argument that NAA should be in the POE, but if I put him there I have to remove someone else. Perhaps that's the primary source of any new trepidation I feel. I'm not confident right now about selecting anyone to be that swap.
Anyway we have over 24 hours before the Day 2 deadline and plenty to talk about. Let's stay engaged.

I checked dunya's posts to verify that she had seen and acknowledged Mac's role claim, because as of right now she is the only person left (outside Dyson) who can still offer up a counterclaim, except she can't because she's dead.dunya wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 10:47 amexactly. and then turn around and do exactly that feels like mafia who doesnt have his agenda in one basketJaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 9:18 am [VOTE: falcon45ca] aubergine
@Scotty, future reference mate: when you enclose something between "lol" and "eh" it looks like you mean something other than what you said.
are you happy with scotty's explanation now?
mac, give me some of your rum to numb this pain in my heart
As it happens she didn't say anything about it. She made posts after the claim happened, and she referenced Mac once as seen above. We kind of just have to hope she saw it and didn't refute because she was vanilla, because if she was the power role we're never going to know it.
I'm content enough to do that. I will consider Mac to be the power role still.

I could consider calling falcon town just on the basis of this page. I don't really believe in a "Syndicate meta = quitters are town" universe given that I have seen so many examples to the contrary. But there's a certain attitude to falcon's rage here that seems that way. Anyway I don't care that much at the moment and would rather he just do his thing.

POE pool can't go more than 6-deep. Here's a split given my current feelings overall (not limited just to those interactions I reviewed):
Master Radishes
MacDougall
RondoDimBuckle
NotAnAxehole
tutuu
Mizery
Nanook
motel room
falcon45ca
Dyson sphere
TonyStarkPrime
Alison
Don't care about the order within tiers. I'll open up another wagon, what the hell. Mac's placement remains a product of the role claim exclusively. I don't necessarily think I need six suspects and could probably drop a couple, but I'll play it safe and stay with the max.

There may or may not be some kind of process at work here, but it remains under the curtain if so. I'm sure that's deliberate. These reads don't entirely make a lot of sense above the curtain, e.g. various consecutive posts in direct conflict (vote Scotty, Scotty isn't included in a list "that contains all three mafia", my POE has no more than one mafia, but also Scotty and falcon are teamed -- yadda yadda. Take it or leave it.
~~~
Conclusion
At face value I have no reason to separate the two. I don't really believe that NAA is mafia, but the reasons why aren't related to his interactions with Scotty.
Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 2)
Gang, suspicion exists. We're playing Mafia. I realize it's frustrating, and when it's wrong it often comes with mistaken interpretations or various other forms of oops. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe falcon is wrong. Maybe tutuu is wrong.
These kinds of interactions are going to happen in a game and we have to handle them with aplomb. If you're really losing your mind, you know who to contact. If you need to step away for a while, cool.
Voting for ourselves and walking away is only going to make it worse. If you're my teammates, either or both of you, then let's get to it. Town needs your help. I need your help.
I'm simply trying to point out that tuutu has had a lot of confidence in other reads that did not pan out, and that maybe she should look at that when going forward with her other reads of supreme confidence. Hubris and all that, eh.
All quoted posts are cherry picked, you just did the same with a whole schwack load of your post reads...you even tell us that you picked them, so that's a bit hypocritical, don't you think?
"I'm done wasting my time on you" can have the effect of silencing a voice by pure emotional force. Spare me.
tutuu did not voice supreme confidence in town reading Scotty. She just town read him. Her read on Scotty is irrelevant to her read on you. It's a way of playing to the audience more than it is speaking to tutuu directly. You clearly aren't interested in her perspective anyway, because you're done wasting your time on her.
Comparing interactive reviews of a dead mafioso with two isolated reads lists pulled from the void is silly. Calling me hypocritical is nigh meaningless. Am I mafia? Why does that sentence exist?
Respond to this if you wish, but I will tell you first: I am much more likely to be moved by hunting than by any continuation of this conversation. If you're not mafia, find out who is and I will listen. I am so far not compelled by the suspicion you voiced of tutuu. Maybe I'll be compelled by something else.
Your accusation of tutuu on the basis of her reads lists is cherry-picked, your discredit of tutuu on the basis of her Scotty read is crap, and "I'm not wasting time on you" adds zero value to the dialogue beyond trying to bury someone into submission who is trying to voice suspicion of you.falcon45ca wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 4:56 pmWhy are they bad?JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 4:55 pm[VOTE: falcon45ca] auberginefalcon45ca wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 4:53 pm That's fine, you don't have to. Interactions of Scotty and RondoDimBuckle
From Scotty
If we follow the thread here, I think it's pretty telling. Scotty started harshly anti-Rondo, and shat in his Corn Flakes over various minutiae. Rondo was a very easy player to go after because of his voting behavior (to his credit, there's value in that), and Scotty took the bait. Then eventually when it became apparent that a Rondo chop was not likely to materialize, he conceded the "I agree" town read initiated by my predecessor Lime Coke.
Good looks for Rondo.
From RondoDimBuckle
Not a lot of consequence to add from this side. The tinfoil on dunya at the end looks authentic enough, and it was contingent upon a Scotty town flip. So okay sure.
~~~
Conclusion
Rondo was the only Scotty voter I thought was a plausible enough busser to investigate. So I did. I think he looks more town than not.

Interactions of Scotty and Mizery
From Scotty
The clear trend here is a strong town read by Scotty on Mizery. The second post in this series is the one that speaks loudest to me. Mizery noted a possible pocketing attempt, which on its own doesn't necessarily dissociate the two. But Scotty's response to that probably does. He is both trying to combat Mizery's fear with joviality (calling them "goober") and assuage their concerns with an e a r n e s t - e x p l a n a t i o n. Good look for Mizery.

Interactions of Scotty and Dyson sphere
From Scotty
Green: More often than not when mafia say this, it's literal. Scotty probably did forget about Dyson, which would be a good sign. Grain of salt that if you wish.
Orange: If this is worth bringing up for Alison, it's also worth bringing up for Dyson. My instincts tell me this is better for Dyson between the two of them. Temper that since it's one little thing.
You'll note a general trend in these posts: Scotty is directly attentive to Dyson throughout the day, and often in a negative capacity (either with direct accusations or neutral reminders that he's lurking). There's a clear progression from start to end culminating in a vote that doubles as "save myself" and "vote out this scummy low-poster". I think that all speaks to Dyson's credit.
From Dyson sphere
There's one new post on this side of the interaction, and it's just a statement of truth. Scotty has one of our coveted Funniest Poster Socky Awards to his name for a reason.
~~~
Conclusion
This is the closest I have come so far to feeling like someone actually isn't Scotty's teammate beyond the vaguest kind of educated guess. I have at least some confidence in saying so.
Interactions of Scotty and lost monkey (Alison)
From Scotty
Green: I was once correctly suspected as mafia in a game long ago for treating one lurker (town) with marshmallows and kindness and a different lurker (my mafia teammate) like an absolute doofus (hi MR, this was the S2 finale). That's a highly specific example and may not apply to Scotty, but the distinction here is nonetheless stark.
Orange: People who care about "rule of three" -- there ya go.
From lost monkey (Alison)
Nothing.
~~~
Conclusion
Yes, Alison can be mafia. Maybe someday I'll clear someone. Credit to Scotty for making this exercise so dull.

He "can" be that. We're not tasked with resolving "can" though. We must solve "is". "Can" is meaningless in my opinion.Alison wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 4:00 pm @JaggedJimmyJay You mention that you interpret Scotty as finding comfort in motel as a LHF push - but the fact that he didn't actually vote motel suggests that the push wasn't that comfortable for him after all. Why can't he be partners making a meaningless distancing lip service post that he never intends to follow through on?
If I ask myself "would Scotty have been glad to join a motel room wagon had one sprung to life without him needing to start it himself?" my first instinct is that the answer is "yes".
I don't clear motel room entirely on this basis, but that's my take.

Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 2)
Interactions of Scotty and motel room
From Scotty
Scotty did well to inject zero enthusiasm into any of his posts -- it's made them more difficult to interpret.
None of these posts means anything to me except the last one. Scotty needed someone to vote for and found momentary comfort with motel room as an option. This is predictable enough given that motel room is a lower-activity player and the classical form of low-hung fruit. That doesn't necessarily make motel room town. I think I lean that direction at this instant.
~~~
From motel room
The theme here is that motel room town read Scotty. Okay sure. I have no idea why, so motel will have to expand on that himself. Otherwise I cannot assess the sincerity of the read and will shrug.
~~~
Conclusion
This is another annoying interaction where I simply have nothing worthy of clearance. We're meant to make judgment calls in this game, and mine would be that motel room is probably town. I cannot claim any confidence in that though and need him to expand before I proceed.

Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 2)
Voting for JaggedJimmyJay, who had 4 votes not terribly long prior to the deadline, is one means of "saving Scotty", particularly when it at the end it leaves a tie. Scotty wasn't eliminated without the help of chance.
I might even believe that Nanook is the sort of player who'd make a call between the deadline 4-player wagons as mafia instead of sitting on me, but I cannot claim confidence in such a specific meta read. Mafia-aligned players vote like that all the time. This kind of stuff is why I don't care about voting behavior half as much as most people seem to.
If Nanook is town that'll need to be made apparent by Day 2 play.

Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 2)
Interactions of Scotty and falcon45ca
From Scotty
The majority of these posts make me snore, but here're a couple of interest to me.
Green: This, at the least, suggests to me that Dyson and falcon are unlikely to both be bad. Indeed it might be a worse moment for Dyson than for falcon, as falcon is set up to look like a total doofus should Dyson be flipped [mafia] first.
Orange: This smells more TMI than defend-teammate to me. I won't make that an absolute statement since it could be either one without being any surprise. Scotty's EOD voting was varied from falcon to dunya to Dyson (it ended on Dyson). Shrug.
From falcon45ca
Also extremely boring interactive content.
Cyan: This is the only post that stands out. I don't know why falcon made special note of motel room town reading Scotty when he had hardly made a read on Scotty himself to that point.
Note for the log that falcon's final vote went to Dyson.
~~~
Conclusion
Sure falcon can be Scotty's teammate. There are tiny reasons to doubt it, but nothing meaningful enough to move me.
Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 2)
Interactions of Scotty and TonyStarkPrime
From Scotty
Green: Scotty accused Rondo of being a potential mafia teammate of Tony due to a random vote. It was the fifth random vote Rondo had made, essentially fifth in a row -- so that accusation is not great. It can just be Scotty pulling something out of his ass when he sees it, or it could be Scotty feeling a specific urge to say words when the random vote falls upon Tony. The latter wouldn't be great for Tony.
That's speculative. The rest of these posts are bland and tell me little.
From TonyStarkPrime
Nothing new. There's one more post in the exchange about mechanics. Meh.
Conclusion
At least on the basis of this interaction, I have no reason to clear Tony.
Interactions of Scotty and Nanook
This appears to be Nanook's only mention of Scotty. By the numbers this functions as the slightest of town reads, based upon perceived lack of partners. I shrug.
Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 1)
Mac's vote is still here, uncalled, essentially at the deadline. If the deadline passes and that's still the case, he's an abject mafia read. I don't care what came before, and I don't care when his bedtime is. That is terrible in every sense of the word, and I cannot fathom an appropriate explanation for it. I could easily be the Day 1 elimination right now, and that vote is essential for making it so. He has no excuse.
Nanook should know better. Whatever his read on me, in the past he has been inclined to wait with me so that either my alignment becomes clearer to him or I just get night killed. His vote is suboptimal, and in a way that he is normally attentive to. Bad look.
Dyson's suspicion of me looked okay once he explained it. I would still call him POE-caliber, and if he ends up the chop so be it. I would prefer Scotty right now.
I think NAA is town. Move Mac into the POE to compensate. I don't think I have room for Nanook, which means the POE is just going to have to be bigger than it's supposed to be. That's not a terribly surprising development, and it's primarily because of the following:
Town is playing this game very poorly. Just straight up -- it has been a brutal display. It doesn't even matter who is town and who isn't: nearly any iteration of this roster as it currently stands has not been playing a strong town game. There is next to zero cohesion. People are off in their own little worlds playing I Will Take My Ball And Go Solve By Myself. Communication is stunted and shallow. This is a loss waiting to happen if the direction doesn't improve sharply on Day 2. So long as I am the game's newest participant and one of its possible chops, I am not the best person to be taking on that mantle. If I die today I literally can't anyway.
This needn't dishearten any of you or demoralize. It's a harsh assessment, but awareness breeds change. Let's be better gang. Work as a team, or at least try. Use your post allotment. Be friendly without being sarcastic or an arse. Communicate. If I am around I pledge to try my best at doing my part. I acknowledge that I didn't use my own 50 posts as well as I could have: I wasted a few and didn't play with a ton of energy.
If today is a mafia flip, then this assessment can be softened. Well done. It won't be if it's me. If it's a town flip, look inward even if you didn't vote for it. Here's a parting POE pool:
Nanook
RondoDimBuckle
Dyson sphere
MacDougall
tutuu
lost monkey
falcon45ca
Scotty
The names are not ordered. It's one more name than it needs to be, even if one of them is about to be chopped. If I absolutely must drop one, make it tutuu. All of them need to be assessed with diligence, as do the people I didn't list. The game feels bad enough that I don't entirely trust the POE approach itself. It's less difficult than it should be to clear the bar, because the bar is too low.
I'm leaving my vote on Scotty.
@dunya my doubt stems from the implication that neither of us correctly interpreted Scotty when he “shaded” you and Lime Coke. If he wasn’t being sarcastic then he was literally agreeing with you, not shading you.
I think you and Radishes are town anyway and will just glomp. I have one more post. I might vote Dyson with it if he can’t show me his last few reads aren’t completely fake.
Re: Bonk Mafia (Day 1)
I’m wasting one of my three last posts to say that town cohesion is currently bad, and the course is not set in this game for a town victory. That applies almost regardless of who populates the mafia team.
@Dyson sphere please explain your read on me, even if just briefly.
Folks please be mindful that you’re not allowed to vote in the poll without calling it in the thread. It’s a game rule. @MacDougall
For that reason it’s important to keep at least some posts available just for vote movement. I have two more posts and may only use them for that purpose.
I also want to acknowledge tutuu's last huge post. Most of it seemed fine to me. My only immediate emerging gripe is that she suggested she cannot read me at all until she has seen me as mafia already. She's had no problems suspecting me in past games without that (as both alignments).
