I came here to ask some questions but I became exhausted reading all of Syn's questions and now I have to rest.

Also, the Dali Museum that Nook mentioned is right here where two of your very good friends live!!!

no to both. you can be more intelligent than someone with a phd even if you don't have a degree.

i do not look down on anyone unless they are like, assholes or pigs or bigots, etc.

i dropped out of uni twice before i graduated so.

don't rent, buy. --- my dad. even if it's a crappy house or crappy car, own it and you don't burn money!

as soon as i could take out a mortgage, i bought my first home at 25 :D
juliets wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 8:14 pm What's your favorite book and why? (I didn't see this in past questions but sorry if it's a repeat)
jane eyre. i love the romance that blossoms. i love how despite all hardships in life, the main character overcame them and kept moving forward (and there was A LOT of hardship). i love the quirky love story between the 2 main characters and mostly i love her character development showing serious growth as the chapters go on in her confidence and belief in herself and STICKING UP FOR HERSELF. she's amazing. weaker people would have crumbled. great book. fav novel ever.
juliets wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 8:14 pm Favorite album of all time (up to 3)?

2. hounds of love - kate bush

NANOOKTHEGREATANDFEARSOME wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:51 am But yeah what syn said, there's tons of sci fi where the sci part just gets handwaved away the same way magic does in a lot of fantasy stuff
Give me a movie/show or book recommendation that fits the bill.
Ursula k le guin has some good sci fi books that I recall being approachable for serious readers that aren't sci fi fans. I don't remember the order you're supposed to read them in offhand but left hand of darkness and the dispossessed. I recall hitchhikers guide to the galaxy fitting the bill well (both the movie and the book). Asimov is an acquired taste but a lot of his stuff is focused more around philosophical/ethical concerns rather than the specific made up science, nemesis and a lot of his other short stories in particular.

For movies/tv...well doctor who is a classic entry point for a lot of people, and is pretty accessible...star wars of course...perhaps not stereotypical sci fi but the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is an excellent movie
thanks!! i'll check these out soon tbh and report back ;airguitar:
Definitely let me know what you think if you read/watch any of this stuff!

mandatory military service is bad because most countries that have them make exceptions where you can "pay" to get out of it so it no longer feels balanced and fair and it's about how much money you have or how much money you're willing to sacrifice to not endure the army.

countries like the US don't have it mandated but instead give you incentives to join: free education, etc. i am more a fan of that route and think it's a "choice of the people" to decide if serving suits them in that way vs forced service. i think it also builds a better loyalty following.

i don't think anyone should be mandated to do anything, basically, army, civil service, or anything.

Syn wrote: Thu Feb 24, 2022 7:46 am Do you think countries should generally be isolationist or interventionist?
tough.

i am in between. i think countries with more wealth and power have an obligation to help those less fortunate, but not in a way that suits them (the rich countries) but in ways that exclusively betters the outcome and lives of people in the poorer (in need) country.

it all has to be an internal choosing without lies and promises that won't happen: see ukraine today.

it's also an ideal that is almost impossible to balance.

what USA and co did in the middle east is not my idea of helping them and they shouldn't have decided for the people what is better for them. the people decide: see Egyptian people when they decided they had enough of the Mubarak or Morsy administrations.

Meanwhile, because the Assad regime is backed by Russia, the people can't do shit and no one interferes. that's selective and bad. 11years later and they're still under the same regime. millions of displaced syrians. millions of syrians dead on the hands of Assad and before him, his father. actual literal burials of towns that crossed them. that's fucking barbaric.

even war aside, let's talk humanitarian aid. countries can afford billions in foreign military aid to Israel for example, but not help end world hunger?

if you're going to intervene only to help yourself, fuck off basically.

all for it. in my ideal world, there's no borders and legalities in moving around. choosing where you want to live should be a human right cos we're all citizens of this world. just because you're born in the wrong country at the wrong time in unfortunate circumstances should not dictate you live a life without opportunities unless you have a shit ton of money. it's one of the world's greatest injustices and really all about nationalistic pride and greed, under the guise of "national security" or some shit.

I prefer physical because it's easier for me to control my hand and stuff
Dunno if that makes sense but like
It feels harder to control my hand, maybe because I only draw with my finger when on an iPad
(I don't have a stylus so)

Yeah!! If I can, I'd love to have a career related to drawing and/or editing
I kinda feel like it's unlikely though but I'll try my best nonetheless
Idk, I've seen some of your stuff and you're pretty talented. Of course making a career out of it requires a good deal of luck too, but having the talent is the first step!

Thank you!! As always, I'm just constantly worried about the impending doom that is trying to get a job and failing miserably
(also the site is constantly getting broken for me so I might take a while to answer)

If I were going on vacation to the Philippines and wanted to eat really good and cheap food, what would you recommend I eat?
There's nothing that says a fake can't surpass the real thing.

U h
Probably the fact that you can cheat almost anything, if you know where to go? Idk

H m
As someone who has been told by my parents time and time again not to eat street food, I don't think I can recommend much
If you're willing to go eat at those stalls then sure! But as for restaurants, maybe Jerry's Grill? Note: $1 = Php50, give or take
Do with that as you will when counting for how expensive things are
Sorry I can't help much,, I can only go to specific restaurants my parents like
