Syndicate's 2022 Socky Awards

It's that time of year Syndicate: the annual nomination and voting for awards based on gameplay and community engagement over the course of 2022. Yes, it is 2023, but these are the 2022 Sockys because they honor all Syndicate things that happened in 2022.

Without further ado, here are the awards and how you can vote for them.

Voting Guidelines
  • All members of the Syndicate Community are eligible vote, your membership is defined as having an account on this forum.
  • You may place up to 2 votes in each Award Category except where otherwise noted.
  • You are not required to vote in every category.
  • All votes must be submitted to the Socky2022 Account to be counted. (Clicking this link will take you there)
  • Voting will remain open until 11:59 PM Monday, March 13, approximately 2 weeks from when this is announced. Award Reveals will happen approximately one week after that.
  • Discussion about votes places and nominations is encouraged!! Some performances, moments, and members might be forgotten over the course of the year, this is an opportunity to resurface them.
  • Voting for yourself (or a game you hosted), is not permitted. If we discover that this happens, we will inform you of this, and that particular vote will not count until you replace it with a legal vote.
  • You may change or remove votes if you like. If you do change your vote, your final vote in any particular category is the one that we will count.

Voting Template

Here's a list of all awards that you may copy/paste into your nomination PM. If you don't wish to nominate for a particular award, feel free to specify such, leave it blank, or remove that line entirely.

DrWilgy wrote: Thu Nov 03, 2022 2:36 pm Cooking instructions for Spicy Bea Ramen,

Ingredients:
2 tbsp of Granola
1 Bea
2 cups of granulated salt
.5 cup of cottage cheese

Take a skillet and heat it on warm. Line the skillet with butter you dropped on the floor, but don't worry, 5 second rule prevents dog hair on the floor from sticking to it.

Squirt the 6 oz of Nutella into the pan and heat until blackened.

While your Nutella is blackening, remove your eggs from the fridge, crack them and drop the newly hatched Bea into the bowl. Add cinnamon and turmeric. Blend the Bea and spice mix with a whisk.

Once blackened, add your blended Bea to the Nutella and cook till bronze.

Remove from skillet, place over toast and voila.

His coming into the game discussing hypotheticals not related to the game seem chillax and the sort of content I think wolf Aro would avoid. In other words, he'd be more in try hard mode and thus be sticking to game content. I also really like his insta town read on Wisp when Wisp is someone scum!Aro could have just waited to see how reads on him shaped out to be. And I think this post has signs of a town perspective:

You are leaning town on the person who made what you described as a wolfy dichotomy?
Let me clarify, I mean the dichotomy is "wolf-siding" because I know I am town and I have a light tr on Wisp.

I have Illario lightly town for some of his earlier interjections with u and how he came into the game to start trying to understand your town reads. Demonstrates to me he is already focused on forming that "town core."

Making a "wolfy" dichotamy != player is scummy if that makes sense lol
Mainly because it remains objective about Illario. I think scum who initially made the post about Illario making a wolfy dichotomy would probably continue to push that Illario-wolf narrative.

Rant about poor town play
Spoiler: show
MacDougall wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 11:47 pm Actually I'm gonna spend the next half hour ranting about all the things bad town do in games that piss me off. Enjoy.
MacDougall wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 11:53 pm First most frustrating thing bad town do in games. Argue with strong players who have strong reads on other strong players.

Unless you are some sort of Einstein level fuck, you need to let this shit run it's course. Strong players do not need you to be defending them from other strong players. Make them do it themselves. If you think that Strong player A is trying to run roughshod on the thread by hard tunneling strong player B you're almost always mistaken because strong players tend to try to pocket other strong players. The likelihood of two s-tier players going at each other goes:

t v w
t v t
w v w
w v t

In that order.

It is strictly on the surface less likely that the person with the aggressive read is mafia. And the chances of the person on the other end being mafia are around rand. Let it occur. You are not going to do anything but annoy the fuck out of a good player who may have a mafia player cornered. You are doing nothing of value even if you are right because it is important to the process of the player to actually make the push and figure shit out for themselves. When other people jump in and defend the person for shit house reasons it often exaggerates their tunnel because they feel like the person has minions defending them. Or even worse you can get accused of having TMI and have the hosebeast turn their gaze on you instead.

Just let the bulls hit each other. It is stupid to do otherwise unless you have mech.
MacDougall wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 11:57 pm Second, related thing bad town do that pisses me off, rep "godreads" on slots that could fool them in a heartbeat.

So you read Ilario right two times in the last cpl months. You do not have a godread. Not even if you caught Ilario a mafia.

See, the thing is that Ilario (or insert any competent player) does not play games to fool you, Mr or Mrs. Shit Town, they play games to win for their wincon. But eventually comes a time in a game where pocketing you, actually helps their wincon, and you are shit at the game, and they are exceedingly self aware (the trait that makes the biggest difference between good and bad mafia players) so they know exactly why you read them the way they do. You think they're town because they use fullstops, or some dumb shit. So they use fullstops. Now you, Dumb Fuck, are out here townreading the deepwolf and yelling at people who are suspicious of them for hard wolfsiding correctly. You are THE moron.
MacDougall wrote: Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:00 am Third thing bad town do. Have no fucking idea what is alignment indicative in a game.

In order to actually truly understand what is and is not alignment indicative in a mafia game you have to have played so many mafia games that you have a stored internal database of varied games that allows you to understand probability in an innate way because what is alignment indicative is never perfectly one way or the other, it is only less or more probably alignment indicative GENERALLY.

Unless I can ask you "name three things that are more of alignment indication as wolf than town" your reads are rand except for true actual meta reads. Which brings me to...
MacDougall wrote: Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:01 am Fourth thing bad town do... rep meta based on FUCK ALL GAMES

You do not have a meta read on me if you have played mafia with me 2 times. You do not understand the range of a player until you have seen them as both alignments multiple MULTIPLE times. Your meta read is bogus. DOn't argue with me.
MacDougall wrote: Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:04 am Fifth thing bad town do...

Single player mafia.

Look around you. You've played 5 games of mafia in your life. Oh yay you played champs and know the English language and passed high school literature enough to be able to articulate your thoughts to perform better than the mouthbreather that got sent from "Dicktopia Mafia" and made the finals. Look at you, finals level player, you made it.

You do not have the best reads in this lobby. You are a passenger. Other people in this lobby have better reads on you, more experience with the playerlist and in general. Sit down, shut up, listen and learn, and get better at the game.
MacDougall wrote: Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:07 am Next... OMGUS

Ho-lee fuck

Okay so OMGUS is like ... back in the day it was a WOLF TELL. Can you believe that? I'm so old that was the meta when I started. These days OMGUS is actually a "oh yay it's a bad town" tell. So don't fucken do it.

If a good player who sounds town is suspecting you, take a fucking look in the mirror and make sure you aren't playing the role of extra wolf first. Ask yourself "am I playing the way this person is used to perceiving me play, is it fair for them to think I am mafia?" Am I shielding all their scumreads? Am I pushing hard into their town? Do they have basic logical reasons to think I might be a fucking mafia.

If the answer is yes, then DONT READ THEM SCUM JUST CUZ THEY READ YOU SCUM YOURE A DUMB FUCK.
MacDougall wrote: Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:08 am If you are someone who consistently omgusses you are actually contributing some really bad shit to the general meta because wolves that like to openwolf can just hard omgus town correct on them and people will townread them because of morons like you.
MacDougall wrote: Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:10 am The archetypal bad town.

Step 1 - Find all the better players than me and townread them immediately because they did not alignment indicative things that you think are town for them.
Step 2 - Scream at everyone who suspects them. Omgus on their behalf.
Step 3 - Go into a blind rage tunnel when someone suspects you for playing the game like a pre-schooler.
Step 4 - Blame them when they decide you have to die for playing like an idiot.

Best Walrus Submitter
In your opinion, who was the best submitter of music to Walrus music events in the Syndicate this year? This award is intended to members who submitted music, not hosted.
All active Members who participated in a Walrus are eligible for this award.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lifetime Achievement Award
Last but far from least. This award can be viewed as a sort of "Hall of Fame" induction, not to be confused with the Hall of Fame forum on this site where we keep statistical track of each game and player. This award does not refer only to 2022 game play. It refers to the entire body of work (referring specifically to their Mafia play and/or hosting) for a player's time on this website from the day they registered.
Not everyone is eligible to be inducted this year. This will function similarly to an athletic Hall of Fame, like those seen for professional sports. This year, only players who joined The Syndicate in the year 2018 or earlier are considered to be eligible for a Lifetime Achievement Award. Last year the cutoff was at 2017, and now we have advanced it one year. Next year the cutoff will be 2019. Again, to be eligible for the Lifetime Achievement Award, your nominee must have joined the site during or before the year 2018.
The following members have already won this award, and are thus ineligible:
Spoiler: show
DharmaHelper
Dragon D. Luffy
dunya
Dyslexicon
Epignosis
G-Man
insertnamehere
JaggedJimmyJay
juliets
Long Con
MacDougall
Marmot
nutella
Sloonei
Spacedaisy
S~V~S
Tangrowth
Turnip Head
You may vote for THREE players here, and three players will be inducted. In the event of ties, the Socky Awards team will convene to come to a solution.
Everyone is eligible to vote for this award, including those who are not eligible to receive it.
You may access this link to see the first page in the member list of eligible users from 2018 or earlier -- you may nominate any user from page 1-12 of this member list (with it sorted as it is in this link) that has not already won the award.
I didn’t follow all the hustles last year, but I feel like those would have been good displays of team civ play. Anyone have any rec’s to check out for that category?
Edit: or if anyone has any outstanding civ play that they noticed last year and want to advocate?
Or anything you want to advocate for in any category- feel free!
King of the Hill Mafia was a pretty sweet turnaround for town. After chopping only one wolf in the first 5 days, they managed to flip the last two wolves in F5 and F3, netting a win.
I want to promote a pile of names for the Lifetime Achievement Award, which is as difficult to vote as ever before. We get three votes each, and I believe the following 11 players deserve consideration. There may well be even more than that; I wanted to keep this at least somewhat reasonable in length. But clearly The Syndicate has been blessed with great people and great players for a long time. Remember that to be eligible, players must have registered on the site by the end of 2018.
i would like to second, third and fourth fingersplints for the lifetime achievement award.
splints has been here longer than i, and was actually one of the creators of the "sockys" awards concept in the first place so without her, we wouldn't be having these awards!
she's also been a constant presence on TS despite anything else she has going on in her life over the years, and it's a reassuring feeling to know she's still a part of this community and makes it a better place on the forums and on the discord to have her here!
one of the most down to earth and kind people, who does so much behind the scenes work and effort to make the syndicate a better place.
you are valued and appreciated @fingersplints
splints has been here longer than i, and was actually one of the creators of the "sockys" awards concept in the first place so without her, we wouldn't be having these awards!
she's also been a constant presence on TS despite anything else she has going on in her life over the years, and it's a reassuring feeling to know she's still a part of this community and makes it a better place on the forums and on the discord to have her here!
one of the most down to earth and kind people, who does so much behind the scenes work and effort to make the syndicate a better place.
you are valued and appreciated @fingersplints
Oh you are going to make me cry :hug:
I’m honestly so glad these Socky’s have become what they are. I first
envisioned these awards as a time for celebration and appreciation for all the different and unique talents we have in this community. It could have gone so horribly wrong and been cliquey and mean. I’m so glad that after so many years it’s such a wonderful and loving event. It’s truly a testament to this community we built. I honestly appreciate all of you and I look at the list @JaggedJimmyJay provided and such stiff competition. There are a few I am rooting for but there is not a single person undeserving.
We get three votes each, and I believe the following 11 players deserve consideration. There may well be even more than that; I wanted to keep this at least somewhat reasonable in length. But clearly The Syndicate has been blessed with great people and great players for a long time. Remember that to be eligible, players must have registered on the site by the end of 2018.
Here are the folks I considered most before voting, in alphabetical order:
@DrWilgy
@Golden
@Jackofhearts2005
@Kylemii
@Quin
@Scotty
@sig
@speedchuck
@sprityo
@thellama73
@TonyStarkPrime
I'd also like to add @fingersplints and @sabie12 to this list and was surprised to see neither of them already have this award.
You know me. I’m here for the community and not here for the wins.
At one point on the forum we had Ambassadors? Do you remember? I remember scouting other sites and playing as one on jesustoastmafia and seeing one member who seemed sooo fun and such a good fit for us. @DrWilgy so glad he stuck it out with us and he truly embodies what mafia should be; both serious and fun!
Ty for adopting (kidnapping) me. Getting to play with y'all for almost 8 years so far has truly been a blessing.
My old home is naught but 404 lol
:hugs: You are always valued. We love having you here. Seeing you on the players list always means a good time
Someone else poached me from Jesustoastmafia (Maybe it was Juliets?) and I wasn’t having a good time there. Didn’t realize Wilgy was also from there
Y'know I think I remember that.
The toasters were always so angy. They had that FGC energy boiling in their veins.
Yes I remember that. I played one or two games there, I was glad we brought back the people we did. There was definitely anger there for sure. We got the best of Jesus Toast.
I added splints and sabie to the list I originally posted, because both were gross oversights. So many great people!
OMG, Jesustoast!!! I thought it was going to be such a cool community! Glad we got the best of there. Also I had no idea that's where wilgy came from, it seems like he was born here.
PLEASE y'all, I'm linking some posts from the Socky discussion server that Scotty linked to earlier that I hope everyone will remember from early 2022 games. These performances to me were outstanding.
An important element of Golden's LAA candidacy:
At the "end" of The Syndicate's original era in which [usually] only living players could win games, Golden led the site in win percentage.
Ballots are due in 24 hours. If you don’t know what to say for some categories, leave it blank! Incomplete ballots are still counted!!
I finally have an opportunity to provide these proper banners from local graphic design genius @Long Con. These existed a while back, but we had some miscommunications and delayed their presentation. If you already have the stop-gap temporary banners I made, you should replace them with Long Con's -- clearly they are better, and they are true to tradition. Mine were never meant to be permanent! If you want you can use both too.
