I read DH as town, but I also wasn't around for the whole LC lynch thing. If I have a reason to suspect him right now, it's that he refused to talk about his current reads a few moments ago, but whatever, I'll see what he does tomorrow.

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 4
Looking at the timeline of claims this day phase:
This is messy. On the one hand, Quin's story is less believable and can't be verified by anybody at the moment. On the other, I don't really see what he gains by making any of this up.
And while speedchuck's claim seems to add up, at least as far as timmer is concerned, we also have to deal with [url-http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... 17#p493717]poutanko allegedly IDing Bullzeye/Speedchuck as bad. So there's no clear answer either way here.
Another important factor in all of this is INH's resurrection. Do we think that was an accident, or something the Death Eaters actively conspired toward? If the latter, then they'd be basing their entire strategy for the day around it. The potential for bold and wacky lies would be greater in that case. Speedchuck's claim seems more calculated than Quin's.
If the former, and they were as surprised as the rest of us to see INH back among the living today, then they'd have to improvise their plans for the day. Quin's claim seems like the more improvised of the two.
Juliets claims to have attempted to resurrect Turnip Head last night, but Turnip Head is certifiably not resurrected. Instead we have INH. The presence of [SECRETS] makes it difficult to speculate on what might have happened, but it's unclear from the visible abilities whether or not they could have knowingly redirected a resurrection onto one of their dead partners. It's possible they had a more general redirection which was used on Juliets, and because her ability was targeting a dead player, the pool of potential target changes shifted the dead roster, and INH's name happened to be plucked from there. In any event, what we know is that Juliets' claimed night action did not happen, but that the same action was carried out on a different player who happens to be bad.
All of this is to say that we have a lot of variables and unknowns and this is confusing so it's a good thing we have a confirmed scum to default to today or else we'd all have died of confusion by now. Someone please help.
Speedchuck hints at inside knowledge in his first post of the day, ~45 minutes in.
States it more clearly in his next post, though he still hasn't declared whether he tracked or watched here. I don't remember if there even is any sort of tracking ability in this game, so this may not matter. But Quin's asking.
Timmer confirms speedchuck's assertion that he (timmer) did not kill Long Con. This would at least seem to suggest that speedchuck did in fact have access to some sort of information about timmer and/or Long Con.timmer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 6:25 pmThis is correct. I assumed that any attempt at using my vig would be tampered with, so I used a different item to avoid having an obvious killshot redirected.
And then along comes Quin's patronus claim. Looking at it in sequence, this claim seems to have the least going for it, but it also seems like the least sensible lie in the bunch. If Quin is scum and lying here, I see no advantage gained here. Sure he can sow confusion, but in doing so he paints a giant target on his back. The urgency of his questions leading up to this also seem to suggest that he was sitting on some sort of information himself.Quin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 6:26 pmgod damn it timmer you wasted my patronustimmer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 6:25 pmThis is correct. He finally comes out with it. I haven't commented on my involvement here yet, so I suppose I should say as much as I can here: I have no way of knowing whether or not Quin actually targeted me last night. As for the optics of this claim, it is concerning that it took him so long to get it out. One could speculate that he was weighing his options and trying to come up with the proper lie.
Speedchuck said this in the immediate aftermath of the claim shenanigans. Interesting.speedchuck wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 6:40 pm Pretty sure Quin is town.
I'm waiting until EOD to vote for INH tho.
The full claim.speedchuck wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 6:47 pmYou somehow visited LC.Quin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 6:46 pmwhat's screwy about my night action?speedchuck wrote: ↑Tue Nov 06, 2018 6:45 pmAsk them.
Considering that a vig quite probably murderified LC, I don't want to out everything without thinking about it.
You weren't the only one.

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 4
The two somewhat answerable questions I have coming out of my look at the claims are: 1) What does scum Quin gain by lying about using a patronus on me and timmer?
2) Is there any possible scenario where both speedchuck and Quin are telling the truth?
The unanswerable question is whether or not scum knew INH was coming back.

I’d be comfortable working with the assumption that Quin, much like his bed, is full of shit, if not for poutanko allegedly having a guilty ID on Speedchuck. Their language in that claim is somewhat ambiguous so I guess it wouldn’t hurt to seek clarification. poutanko did you use divination (or some other ability) to check speedchuck/bullzeye’s alignment?

In double checking the actual name of the ID ability just now, I realized there’s a possible explanation to all this night actuon discrepency that hasn’t been brought up yet, or at least hasn’t been a part of the main conversation: Arresto Momentum.
Is it possible that either one of Quin or speedchuck simply had their night actions pushed back a night, so that what they thought they had done on Night 2 actually came into effect on Night 3?This spell delays another student’s movement. This will make whatever abilities they use have their effect delayed to the following night.

An angle that I became vaguely interested in as the day went along, but that I wasn’t able to look into, is people’s attitudes towards all the alleged night shenanigans. Presumably scum would have been less confused about INH in particular, and possibly any of the other claims. I wanted to look closely at how everyone responded to those things but never really got around to it. If anyone feels like picking that up, it’d be cool.

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Night 4
This is the most sensible take on all this that i’ve read.Jackofhearts2005 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 1:54 pmGolden was the mafia watcher and was called out for not watching outed power roles like cop and vig and otherwise blatantly not using the watcher power (which is possibly the best townie power in mafia) from a town perspective.
Speedchuck similar to this. Why does a town watcher need to watch Long Con, who is going to attract town cop, blocker and vig type roles, which are more helpful for scum to know?
Town watcher should be watching Timmer so the mafia can’t kill or imperio the likely town vig. Town watcher should be watching Juliets so the mafia can’t kill a confirmed townie or imperio her rez. Town watcher should be watching Jay or DH because they have targets on their back. Or even anyone they think could be town that scum might kill.
Speed watched the only player that he’d never catch a scum player killing, the basically outed goon.

My first comment was about the speedchuck/quin conflict. Lynch him. The mafia rezzed INH and could have shenanigans planned, even if unlikely. They weren’t ready to lose speedchuck today.

No. I have a general pulse, but still not a complete image, and I still don’t have the time to do all the things that I normally would.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 3:04 pmYou've been around and seen a lot in this game now. Do you still feel hopelessly behind?
I’m just trying to provide pockets of insight whenever and wherever I can. It’d be hopeless for me to try to get a full grasp on this game.

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Night 4
My concern would be less that poutanko is lyinf, and more that their divinations were interfered with/redirected somehow.juliets wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 5:13 pm So, I'll say regarding Colin that the reason I'm seeing him as town is because of the cop check. So if people thing poutanko is lying its of interest to me why that would be (which is how the whole DH conversation started). If there are reasons to consider Colin as scum, I'd like to discuss those too.
If it were day right now I’d be voting for speedchuck again, if you want any indication of where I stand on poutanko’s claim

If only one of those two is scum, I’d guess speedchuck before kara. But I like your w/w theory for the two of them and would give it serious consideration if one of them flips bad.

There is no resolution to the Quin v. Speedchuck issue. At least in my opinion. speed has a different opinion and so does Quin.
DH doesn't seem to want to participate anymore, hopefully he will change his mind.
There's a lot of other stuff but those are my highlights.

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Night 4
Let us take a step back for a moment in the Mafia History Books. What does Sloonei do? Above all else, what is the thing that Sloonei does in mafia games? Especially early in games, when a clear direction has not been established? Does anyone know what Sloonei does? Who will tell us what Sloonei does?
Sloonei asks questions. Why does he do that? To get answers. Sometimes he has the answers, but asks anyway. Other times he does not have the answers, and so he asks. In this game, Sloonei does not have answers. He asks questions that he hopes will incite insightful discussions. They are no aimless. This question is not aimless. Quin and Speedchuck created a controversy that consumed the thread. Everyone except sprityo debated it all day, and nobody came to a satisfying conclusion. In consideration of the possibilities, one must wonder what scum Quin was doing targeting scum Long Con in the event that Speedchuck told the truth. This was not something I'd seen being considered. I wanted it to be considered. Do you have a proposed answer to my aimless question, master?
Both of those are bad. That was my point. I didn't write those words with the intent of offering a definitive conclusion. One can say that I'm waffling and I won't fuss about it. The point of that exercise was to wrap my head around the events and try to offer whatever interpretation I may. Those were the interpretations I came up with. In the moment I was unsure which I preferred.Sloonei reviews the mechanical controversy and ends up with a bunch of opinions in conflict with each other and no conclusion. speed's claims are "more calculated" and Quin's are "more improvised" -- both of those sound bad.
I've decided, at least for now, that I side with Quin. The questions about speedchuck's motivation for watching Long Con are too much to ignore. His claim felt calculated, as if he was trying to entrap somebody. What reason does a townie have for telling us all that timmer didn't kill Long on?
~~~
Conclusion
I note a lot of concerns here and nothing stands out to the contrary.
