Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 1

The rest of Gryffindor:
Spoiler: show
INH:

His weighing in on JC/EpI and Owner/DH feels good to me. Otherwise not much content from INH.

Jay:
it looks like Quin was trying to make a joke "Oh so you HAVE a team huh Epi?" and Jay tried to hem him up over it/look for an easy vote. Cutting the "glorf never lies" shit out earns jay a point in my book though. His explanation here Is mondo garbo. "Quin implied it was MafiaEpi vs. CivJC but it could be the opposite but thats just my opinion". Yeah. Thats how mafia works my guy. Votes for LC after agreeing with "himself and Soneji". Cool. the LC suspicion is"LC asked about Veritiserum in the thread and not by PM, and made a joke about Glorf not telling any lie ever" The first part - LC asking about VS in the thread to appear civilian by way of explaining something that doesn't really have any meat to it, I can see. Switches to a NO U Turnip vote. Great. His exchange with TH makes me feel better about Jay and worse about TH.

Kyle:
Buncha fluff. Tossing out town reads like it's Halloween. Friendo needs to get some Gatorade and get his head in the game.

TH:
His thoughts on Epi/JC are good. He agree's w/ me about Owner's slip. Then we get into the Jay/TH thing which I've gone over. Overall I'm 60/40 on TH being bad right now.
Hufflepuff:
Spoiler: show
Bullz - Only really one post of substance where he calls out Owner for mixing up DH/DA shit. The rest is very friendly heh-haw about the Harry Potter universe and trivia. Yoinks. Thumbs down.

Epi - Already pretty much covered Epi. His JC thing is null for me. I've been around the block with the guy long enough to know he's gonna do his thing and asking him to do your thing is just asking him to punch you in the nuts.

Glorf - Protecting/Buddying Jay. which I've already covered. Jumps on TH for his scummy post and then prods at Quin. I really hate to step on egg-shells when I play mafia but Glorf is a player that kind of forces me to do that sometimes, so I'll say this. Having hosted Baddie Glorf, if I see that Glorf is having a miserable fuckin' time in HOGWARTS of all places, that'll pique my interest. Otherwise, fuck it.

Owner - Not super stoked about the incessant and unyielding obsession w/ me. Already covered a lot of my thoughts on Owner but it boils down to "I think she jumped on me because its easy, her explanation was weird and hinged on Firefly which is also weird because she did the same shit there and I was also town and she was also wrong about every 'slip' or 'tell' or read about me. Also she confused Deathly Hallows with Dark Arts because she knows the Dark Arts abilities and Freudian Slipped."

Poutanko - Owner of a Lonely Heart Does poutanko's use of those custom smilies so much qualify as a "picture tell", as you put it in Firefly? Not a great deal of content here otherwise. Pegs Owner/Jay for going "too hard" which is sort of the consensus. Eh.

Soneji - Only post is the one where Soneji calls out LC. Decent point.
Ravenclaw:
Spoiler: show
juliets - I don't take anything from Epi/JC either way. JC isn't a false schemer type of a player, even when she's bad. When she's bad (at leas in the one GOC game that I remember correctly guessing that she might be bad) she was very airy and asked a lot of questions about other peoples thoughts. She agrees here w/ Luna about Jay/Quin. This post is what I mean when I say she was asking a lot of questions about other people's suspects. Asking people to refresh her on the LC case (or lack of). Pings me a bit but I like to watch and wait when JC is concerned. She backs off Jay after Jay/TH which is cool and good.

Long Con - His Veritiserum post has already been covered via other reads, but just to reiterate and quantify: asking about VS as a game mechanic in the thread and not to the host suggests LC wants to appear to be doing legwork without actually bearing any usable fruit. Otherwise pretty friendly in his interactions. I would say I'm half-decent at reading LC, but I've got nothing here worth a ping right now, another watch-and-wait for me. As the game picks up steam I'll have a more solid opinion of LC like I always do.

Lunalee - This post pinged me early because it demonstrated a focus on House Points and not Vote Accountability, which I'm a big proponent of. Her digging into Jay looks ok. Not much otherwise noteworthy. I'm 55/45 on Luna being bad.

MacDougall - Shitposticus Maxima! is the spell that Mac would have made up if he were the Half Blood Prince.

nutella - Another Jay hanger-on. Lots of light/jokey/fun posts. Not really feeling a nutella vote *right now* but Blendium Totalus. am I right? Got 'em.

Quin - Goes in on Glorf for Glorf's protecting/Buddying to Jay, which is Valid. Blasts Timmer for poo-pooing Truthgate, which is meh. Seeing less of the Buttlhole Jerkboi Quin this game which is cool I love you Quin be my friend.
Slytherin:
Spoiler: show
Jackofhearts2005 - Hunting for Hallows and not baddies. Thumbs down.

karavalenge - Comes away from Owner/DH thinking "Could be both bad and have a Hallow" and "Could just be confused", which is a very political, trying to please everybody answer. Dunks on the Truthgate shit with "Well now I *have* to say I'm town", the rest is a buncha Veritserum speculation. Not gr8 m8.

lapluie - she checked in.

novaselinenever - he did not.

speedchuck - Wants to give everyone who is here a shot at N1 at least, and wants to let Glorf alone RE: "I never tell a lie" stuff which are two points I can get behind. Expains the Hallows to Long Con. Townreading Epi after Epi/JC. says Owner "overexplained" the Hallows thing. Poo-poos Truthgate. I'm gonna need more suspects from Chuck, but good effort-ish for D1, expecially compared to most of his Housemates.

timmer - Dings Kara for poo-pooing on Truthgate. Otherwise not much to go on here. Prods Owner a bit for tunneling me but concedes that might just be "blinders." Nothing bad, but nothing great.

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 1

Lets see how many reads I can crank out before I get tired of it and fuck off to play more RDR2:

Colin: His patronus is a buzzard. which is:

"a large hawklike bird of prey with broad wings and a rounded tail, typically seen soaring in wide circles."

Colin likes to flip and flop, moving in large circles around his suspects and his opinions. Therefore, Harry Potter is real life. This joke is a few sentences too long. On to the real shit. He "agrees, but" with Timmer about JC. Gives her a pass based on the complicated set up of the game. Fair dues. JC can be a bit airheaded with her questions either way. Agrees with LC about Glorf maybe "TMI-ing" by protecting Jay Could be Glorf is Buddying/Pocketing Jay to keep him on a leash if his supatown persona ever pops up and rears its focus onto Glorf. Decent point.

Townreads Epi, Owner with no fanfare. Backtracks on Glorf suspicion. Wow he really is a buzzard. Thinks the Epi/JC debate has baddies in it but wants to vote Nova if he doesn't shova.Agrees with Luna about Jay reading into Quin's post RE: Epi/JC. Attacks LC for his "pedantic" logic post, and nutella. Town reads Owner for the Hallows/Arts post. Actually fuck this play by play method I'll just write the highlights.

His jumping on the "Lets all claim town" thing feels a lil sketch. He ends up voting Jay, but cites INH's post instead of giving his own reasons outright. Though this is consistent with him taking umbrage with the Epi/JC hangers-on. Decent legwork, solid and consistent thought process that led to an informed, consistent vote. Town.

I've decided to break this read off of the megapost I'd planned because it is unintentionally huge. Fuck.

It's like when I say scum. When I think of scum, I think both mafia and 3p (third party) are scum. Some sites like NF have taught me sometimes indies aren't scum.
This strikes me as odd because the Hallows themselves aren't evil. They're associated with Death, and trying to cheat Death in various ways. Good people don't want to die either. The Resurrection Stone was also just supposed to bring back people's loved ones, nothing remotely bad about that. We have seven books worth of the Invisibility Cloak being used for good, and the Elder Wand just obeys power. Those two could be used for evil or for good, depending on who had them. Voldemort wanted them as weapons because he was evil, not because they were.

IDK thinking out loud, the best indicator of an actual slip here is conflating "Dark Arts" with "Deathly Hallows" because she had "Dark Arts" on the mind.
. . . maybe. I was thinking of the the opposite way. If Owner didn't read through all the rules, it's not surprising that Deathly Hallows and Dark Arts could get mixed together. Death and Dark start with the same letter and both sound evil.

I was taking the unfamiliarity the opposite way, while you were taking the Fruedian side of it.

I see your side now, but I don't think I can make that conclusion.

Ok I'll walk you though it, because I love you.

Here you explain the Deathly Hallows mechanic. Which, since they're all locked behind secrets, the basic gist is "You get one if you kill the guys that have them or if you're the last vote on the guys that have one"

Here Owner says "Dark Arts" and not "Deathly Hallows". Her exact quote will be helpful in understanding my thought process so here:

speedchuck wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 12:04 am :) what about me, owner? Give DH a break and flag me for a bit.
You knowing the intricacies of the Dark Arts stuff and sharing it could be an act to try to buy townie points. I remember reading the stuff about it but not nearly picking up enough about it to understand it all. Basically, if someone had or possessed Dark Arts abilities this game, they would probably read up on it or make sure they understood their abilities.

Technically, what you said is some form of mechanical-talk or a retelling of information, in which some of it is free to us. But it doesn't necessarily solve us the game or anything.

It's potenitally the kind of post meant to look like a person is being useful, but in reality, they aren't truly really adding to the thread.
"The intricacies of" - What's intricate about [SECRET] and "Keep what you kill"
"The Dark Arts Stuff" - if you've got Dark Arts on the mind and someone says Deathly Hallows, you might confuse the two. Freudian Slippage.
"I remember reading the stuff about it but not nearly picking up enough...." - [Secrets] and "Keep what you kill" doesn't strike me as hard to retain.

IDK thinking out loud, the best indicator of an actual slip here is conflating "Dark Arts" with "Deathly Hallows" because she had "Dark Arts" on the mind.

I don't know how that would be a slip. They're two completely different things.

... unless you meant townslip.
No I mean did she scumslip. They're two completely different things. One of them you were talking about, the other one you weren't.

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 1

Stream of Consciousness as I catch up before Grub Time:

I took Epi's original "juliets and I are not on a team together" or w/e he said as the usual Epignosis brand of military grade Who-Gives-A-Shit. I didn't prescribe any meaning or weight to it because having played with Epi for years now, he does that shit almost every game, all the time. I don't read it as alignment indicative for him because it's not alignment indicative. HIs explanation of "Well you see if we were baddies together, I would have politely asked Juliets if it was alright to spoil the Half Blood Prince for her and she would have agreed to be fake mad in the thread" or whatever conspiracy, *that* tickled my nose hairs but again I'm not gonna call it this early because, well because of two things:

1. Juliets isn't a fake person. I've known her longer than I've known Epi and probably longer than I've known any of you guys at this point. I don't see her going "Hey yeah great idea lets stage this whole elaborate thing and fuck around D1"

2. Epignosis isn't all that concerned with much of anyone or anything most of the time in games that I play with him. He just kinda doesn't care, and does what he wants. He makes odd and definitive statements like that and the "Go, Discuss. Bye." stuff all the time. Its his brand, not his tell.

---

The chatter around it trying to make a mountain into a molehill fucks me right up. i'm on page 6 and a lot of it occurred prior to page 6 so I'll go back and revisit that but yall need to chill. Dialing in on a weaksauce suspicion like that could be baddies looking for an easy out, or looking to stoke some flames early. Eep.

Just got to the post where Nutella quoted Epi criticizing Jay for agreeing with himself. Jay, the guy who unironically said "I think we've made the best decision I could come up with, which is all we can ask for in any lynch".

I see Mac is carrying his ShitPost persona. That'll be fun.

Did Owner slip when she conflated Dark Arts and Deathly Hallows mechanics?

The funny thing with this game is we might get some magnificent ties. Because if you're on a townie lynch that goes through, your house looses 2 points. So especially on day 1 if I don't have a good scum read, I would rather be a single vote on someone who's not going to die.
Oh good someone already fucked up. Thanks Luna :P
This looks juicy. Explain?
Luna is focused more on the House Cup mechanic, like in Firefly with TH and everyone who was so focused on Yun Qui being the best ship that they let themselves lose the game.

Also, how would she know her options are "Town lynch" or "put a random single vote on someone who isn't going to die".

Weak ping but a ping.

I think I understand. You are concerned about having suspicion against you this early, so you're focusing on it more than is necessary. Why so concerned?
I'm not concerned is the thing. I engaged with it because of Firefly, and because I've got a particular mafia history that I'd not care to repeat RE: interactions with certain players, certain perceptions, etc.

Good news is Dr. Who was good. Bad news is its 2:30am and my sleep schedule is still boinked. Also RD2R playing starts tomorrow. I'm really just posting so Nutella has a buffer between her posts.

Yeah, you're probably a great tank, but maybe I want to sometimes play with DH bard. :p
