Re: [END] Bioshock Mafia

Wow, but still 4 games? That's pretty amazing! You played great Devin.

I'm always happy to take one for the team. Even if my team goes on to win without me. Though I was a little bummed that it meant I probably wouldn't get to win with you. I'd still do it again in a heartbeat. :noble: (Sorry bea! :bea: It was purely strategic, NOT personal. And then Russti ends up dying right away... so you just never can have an iron clad plan in mafia I don't think.)

Re: [END] Bioshock Mafia

Wow, Devin, that was your first game? I would not have guessed.

I am still really confused, but I enjoyed my team. I had a blast with you guys, and it was so fun to watch the game after I died and see you doing well. (Even if I was a bit confused.)

Also... Mafia of the Absurd on HV is going to start the beginnings of August, and there are 2 more roles open if anyone wants to sign up. Otherwise we're starting beginning of August and cutting a couple. :srsnod:

Matahari wrote:Only because I forgot that ajira was playing until someone brought him up in a list yesterday. I usually think that new players find a baddie/indy role intimidating, but sometimes they can be just as quiet as a civ. but ajira? Would ajira back away from a baddie role? I know how hard it is to get replacements for baddies who are under suspicion, so this is all confusing.

Which is why I'd rather give both replacements some time to get into the game. It takes a brave soul to take on any role that's under the gun, so I'm going to look elsewhere today.

(That was my list, btw, of low posting players to take a look at.) Anyway, you say it takes a brave soul to take on a role that's under the gun. You're right. But as you also mention, Ajira wasn't under the gun. Nobody remembered he was playing. I made a list of low posting players, saying specifically I am not saying these people are bad, just that they may merit a little look see. So that isn't the case with Bea replacing in - she didn't take on a role that was under the gun.

As far as giving replacements time to get into the game - I mentioned that as well, and I do generally give brand new replacements time to get their feet under them. (Such as Kate, who really is brand new and trying to catch up.) Bea does not fit that criteria either. She's been playing since Day 0 and said herself that she's kept up with the game in the short time since she was killed.

I'm not attacking you or trying to put you on the defensive, I just really do not understand your thinking here. I agree with the basic points you made, but none of them apply to Bea in this instance.

I also do not understand going after someone for a small ping when there is a much better candidate available... even if it might seem "mean" to lynch someone who just subbed in.

Re: [DAY 7] Bioshock Mafia

Matahari wrote:The only other player I can think of who has been suspected was Bullzeye. And yes, I do remember Shane from Grimms. Good point!

With Indi putting Bea on the defensive almost immediately, I guess we won't be getting any leads on who else to look at. If Indi had info, that might explain the quick jump before bea had a chance to implicate others (depending on her affiliation) but I don't remember her going after ajira, so I guess that's not the case. Maybe she just reads Bea really well. Or, sometimes.
Actually, I didn't put Bea on the defensive immediately. She had a bizarre interaction with Devin which read as a major over-reaction to me. I reread it several times... found some glaring slip ups and asked her about it. She could have defended differently. In fact, when she was civ she DID defend differently. I obviously do not have magical Bea reading powers, and never claimed to. I saw something that pinged me, I had no idea that mentioning it would open up an entire can of worms... but it did.

To me, her continued overreaction along with her mud slinging and No U-ing kind of clinched it all in my mind. She reacted in exactly the opposite way as she did when playing civ... and that speaks volumes to me. I try to mention things I notice in games, and then what often gives me more information on a player is how they react.

Bea, in my quotes above, seems to be slinging mud and using the replacement card as a sword and a shield.
Yes, I noticed the same thing about the "replacement card" and grouping herself with you.

Bullz, whenever I've replaced into a game I've never been immune to anything my first day. Now, most times I will give a brand new replacement time to catch up and get their feet under them (and so will most players who have been playing the game since the beginning, ime)... but Bea doesn't fall into that category to me because she's been keeping up - plus she made that slip up and her reaction to the slip up... yada yada yada.

I know you've said you're not necessarily looking to eye anyone in particular but I feel like I say some variation of that every time low posters come up in discussion so it's basically a tradition. I'm concerned that you would so obviously miss my intentions in the posts between my old role and my new role.

It's almost like you were determined for me to be bad the first time around and now that i've a new role, you'll be damn sure positive I'm bad this time around....

I love you too sis...[/ot}

but you feel baddie to me. And have for a while now.

I did mis-read you. You are right there. And I am sorry about that. I never claimed to "read you so well" once. I simply said I had seen you pull the "sweet Bea" act before. I was never certain you were bad before and I never said I was. In fact, once I read your explanations to me, I was happy to simply watch and wait. I wasn't gunning for you, nor was I determined for you to be bad.

Interesting that suddenly you think I'm baddie because I mention your name once you have a new role though. You never said that before when I asked questions about you or suspected you... when you were a civ.

This is not a defense to me. You're just trying to sling mud at me. Was I wrong before? Yes. I've said so many times. Me being wrong about you before has zero baring on the role you have this time. This defense makes me feel worse yet about you... whereas last time your defense made me feel better about you. :sigh:
Indi - I am sorry - I'm trying to shake off my old role and embrace my new one. While both are civ, When I was in the old role, it felt like you were gunning to make me bad.Talking about a game that you couldn't reference in which I was "so very manipulative" set me on my radar. I admit I could have over embellished thoughts there. And thoughts, at the time, I didn't mention because I was trying to stay cool.

I'm not trying to sling mud at you. At all. I'm trying to say - you're always thinking I'm bad in this game even when I'm not. And not once in this game have you given me a chance to be good. Forgive me for being jumpy about the fact that the person who should know me best in this game has misread me the whole way through. At some point, I'm a fool to not think that the misread is not on purpose. What would you think about me if the role's were reversed?

Bea, I appreciate your calmer tone. Your tone, however, does NOT explain what you said. I didn't say "you were being so very manipulative" - now that's at least 2 times you have put words into my mouth that aren't there. I was wrong the first time about you, but I am not this time - you know it and you freaked out. Plain and simple. I caught your slip up and you had to try to sling mud, back pedal and change the subject to try to cover it up. You can't cover it up. I saw it, and it's too late to go back in time.

Explain what you said - you have posted back to me several times now and have consistently neglected to address what I actually asked you about. You have focused instead on the fact that I was wrong about you the first time (true, I've already said so half a dozen times at least and that has no baring whatsoever on you NOW), how you think I'm bad (which you never even brought up until I caught your slip up just now), AND you have also put words in my mouth at least 2 times. Remember how earlier in the games we were talking about patterns? You now fit the pattern. Please explain why you said these things I picked up on.

This seems to imply that she was civ before (which, clearly we all know) and since she uses the past tense "I WAS a civ" it also implies that she no longer is... and that she's using that previous civ cred to defend herself now.

Does this make sense? Did anyone else notice this?

:hugs: :bea:

Look at how different her "defense" is this time from when she was a civ. As a civ, she defended herself politely and with actual reasons. This time she immediately began changing the subject, mud slinging, "No U-ing", putting words into my mouth that I never said, etc. She did none of that as a civ. She slipped up, which all of us do from time to time when we have baddie roles. I will be voting Bea today. And I encourage all other civs to do the same thing. Seriously. In fact, I'm going to do it right now. (This obviously is nothing personal, I just think you received a baddie role this time.)

Re: [DAY 7] Bioshock Mafia

EBWOP: I mean "look to see" rather than look with an eye to being suspicious. However I will also look to see if I think there's a reason to be suspicious!

ALSO: Ok, I cannot count. INH has 13 posts, which is more than double what I counted originally. Apparently, if you scroll properly while you count, you can actually count ALL the posts someone has made. :haha: Still, that isn't very many posts considering we're on Day 7. They also contain very little content, which imo is far more important than post count.

Others with extremely low number of posts:

G.O.B. with 6
Ajira with 7
Spag. Everywhere with 13
DFaraday with 15
Spacedaisy with 18

Then it gets higher. Now, I'm not saying I want to eye every one of those people. I am saying, however, that I think it may be wise to take into consideration if they're new to mafia, what their normal play style is (some players are generally quiet, and it may or may not indicate anything) and how much content their posts have had. I do think it's nice to take into account what someone's RL is doing to them too... but without being heartless it can be easy to hide behind RL stuff.

I may choose to take a look at some of the low posters' participation along with my rereads for this vote cycle. Any thoughts on this area or the players on this list?

Catching up right now. Sorry I missed the vote. Polls have been closing around 7pm (or quarter till) my time, I assumed that was the case again today. I totally forgot about it until 6pm my time, and couldn't get on the computer until 6:30... I was super proud of myself for at least remembering in time to come on and vote... but it was too late. Lame.

Also - indi - I'm curious as to what game it is you are referring to that I was bad and conned you by being all "sweet." I for the life of me can't recall a single game in which we played together where I was bad and you weren't.
I'm rubbish with remembering names of previous games, but it was an HV game and it was quite a while ago. I don't remember if I was civ or not (I didn't say anything about my role in that game b/c I don't remember) but I remember you even apologized afterwards for tugging at my heart strings during the game. I, of course, have no hard feelings about it, but I also don't forget that routine that I saw.

Why did your opinion of Epi flip so very quickly?

Also, I'm not sure I understand what kind of point you were trying to make with your analysis of non-BWT voters who are still alive. Are you saying you think those people are his teammates?

MP, thanks for extending the deadline! This will give me more time to do some rereads. I'm especially pleased as my next couple of days just got more hectic.

Re: [DAY 4] Bioshock Mafia

Quoted again for Mata... :hugs:

Just to summarize:

1) a lightning fast flip flop on Epi (she was planning to vote him the next day, then dropped that when the lynch went to a baddie and began praising him) NOTE: I don't know that the "well crap" comment can really be judged, so I'm focusing more on the quick flip flop there.

2) deflecting onto a newb... when my past experience with Bea is that she's usually quite understanding and helpful to new players

Any thoughts about either of these 2 points?

well done epi for not letting up on his gut feeling. As rusti asked, I wouldn't mind knowing if there was anything besides gut that kept you going on.

llama - I've got no problems with you looking my way. I'm a civ this time round. If there's anything specific I can address, I'd be happy to.
I think we've brought this post up before. It strikes me as something a birdwithteeth teammate might just say. But this sticks out to me:

"Well crap" is not something a civilian says when a bad guy gets his comeuppance. That's just not the reaction one has, especially if there's a possibility that "there were two baddies in that mix."

Good points there on Bea. Did a quick flip flop on you too, Epi. I know that opinions on players change throughout the course of a game, but that one is especially obvious and strange.

And I gave him the pass and now it's time to start playing the game.

I'll go with my fellow civs - if we want to lynch boo, I'm cool with that, but for one second don't think my eyes aren't all over gob. I'll throw votes his way in a heartbeat if he doesn't start playing the game like he says he was going to.
Speaking of Bea. This post immediately caught my eye. She points to GOB, a relatively quiet player. Now, while I don't like quiet players this late in the game ( no one point out my record in He-Man...) as I understand it GOB is a new player. I'm sympathetic to new players. It's easy to be intimidated by this game, especially with how fast the post have been coming in the past day.

To me, she seems to be trying to deflect attention to an easy target.

More good points on Bea. Isn't GOB brand new to mafia too, or did I just assume that because I've not seen him around before? And I notice "this late in the game"?? Isn't it like, Day 4? Now if it were Day 8, that's late in the game, but for someone who may be brand new to mafia we've only had 3 complete lynch cycles yet. So I think that is a really good point.

That may have been the question I saw the other day and didn't have time to elaborate on. Nev just explained (pretty succinctly, I might add) the things I'm considering about Bea. I can go back over my posts and find a few to quote too - there were a couple really good points made about Bea during the posting contest madness. You're right though, Bea is a sweetie. I will never forget, however, the way she tugged on my heart strings during a mafia game (by talking about MY sweetie) and pulled the wool over my eyes. She CAN be quite convincing with her "sweet Bea" routine when she needs to be.

Am I convinced she's bad? Nope. I'm not certain of anything in this game, tbh. But do I see it as a possibility? Definitely.

I've noticed a handful of folks sticking up for (albeit subtly and carefully) Bea lately though. So that's something to analyze - because it could be for good reasons or for not-so-good reasons.

Still catching up here...

I think the theory isn't as strong as I used to because Boo was civvie, although, Bullz is on my list for tomorrow though.
That's not a bad point about Bullz. I do need to have another look there to remind myself. I think Bea stuck out more to me because I know her better.

I don't have a ton of time right now, I saw at least 1 question directed to me in the thread - please remind me of it tomorrow as I will have loads more time to respond.

Nev, I think I tend to agree with what you said, but I'd still like to give myself just a little more time before voting. If I vote Bea or Boats it will not be because THEIR names start with B. Plenty of good points have been made on both of them - and I think it's kinda weird that Bea chose to focus on silly things people said as a joke rather (voting for the B's) than defending against the real reasons posted.

FH, fantastic question about the baddies. I remember thinking that in MOTU - that an absent baddie is less of a threat, but if the team is allowed to send in the night actions then we're really in a pickle. And I have a feeling that if we go for absent players we'll get a lot of innocent fallout. (Not like we aren't already getting that though. :p )

Re: [DAY 5] Bioshock Mafia

Hedge, what makes you hesitant about Boats?

Someone mentioned previously that though GOB hasn't been posting at all, he hasn't missed any of the polls. I'd like to verify that before taking it as gospel (so I will) but if so that is a bit odd. But again, if GOB is a newb then that could be the issue. (He hasn't played enough to be a nub yet. :p :D ) So I'm not sure if I see that case as a super solid one personally at the moment.

I'm still pretty well sold on Boats or Bea myself. I'm 100% open to listening to other options or others opinions, but not sure there could be much to sway me away from those two names as of this moment.

I am going to go ahead and vote. I need to take care of these monkeys, and then make a delicious dinner later with fresh veggies from the farmer's market. (My mouth is watering already) and I don't want to be rushed during any of it by "needing to mafia".

I'm going to go ahead and vote Boo. I can understand anyone feeling nervous about it, but I flat out don't believe him. Plus, I don't like attitudes like that messing up game play. Also from looking at the votes, I don't think anyone else has a chance in hell to get more votes than him... so there ya go! Votin', and then taking these monkeys out in the heat. Blah.

I agree with everything you posted minus the stuff about me. Really, all that was meant was that I was looking for why I was suspect at the time. At first all I was getting was vague "I think bea might be bad" comments. It's hard to defend when one doesn't know what they are defending against. Even now, the most people can say is "yes, there's the timing of the vote. Which I get, but is more coincidental than indicative of my alignment" and "tone." To me, tone is hard to defend against. I was wishy-washy with my posting, because I was honest and my thinking was wishy-washy. I was not pretending to be dumb. I truly feel dumb in this game. I think I have a little more to go off now in making a more informed decision, but the first 3 days, I was really really lost. Hell part of me wanted to be lynched because I was so frustrated at not understanding and being accused of being bad for it.

Re: [DAY 0] Bioshock Mafia

Ok, finished the reread of Boats. (I think it actually took less than 10 minutes. ;) ) Anyhoo, this was 1 of his posts that pinged me, in addition to what truly looks like pretty obvious result of BTSC...
BoatsBoatsBoats wrote: (Sorry, I've been having a bit of an emotional breakdown/restructure the past couple days, but I think everything's fine now)

Don't have much to say about it, really. I recognize that my posts seem like they would come from a character who would want the baddies to win. But at the same time, I would hope that many can recognize that if I were a baddie, I wouldn't be so blatant with my in-game motives. Hedonism is damn fun.

Ok, if something serious happens in someone's life, I don't think anyone would (well at least I wouldn't) hold that against them. (For example, I missed the last lynch poll due to a power outage... still something happened to me because of it, and that's the rule so I see it as fair.) However I also don't think it's fair to give someone a free pass because of it. Like, it doesn't make you civ and it doesn't make you bad. It is its own separate thing.

Now that I've said that, this defense does not sound good, imo. So I feel find adding Boats into my list of would-be vote getters. Now, in no particular order, I feel find with a Boo, Boats or Bea vote. (Sorry my love :hugs: ) After reviewing all this and stewing on it for just a bit, I think I actually feel better about voting Boo or Boats over Bea. I can vote tomorrow, which I'd prefer in case anything new comes up or is said or happens, but if the weather turns nasty I think I'll do as Mata is doing and go ahead and vote early just so I don't miss it again.

Yikes! Glad your car was ok! Last year (I believe it was) my neighbor's tree got struck by lightning in a storm and half of it fell on my car! The tree looked wicked cool, it was burnt in the middle where the lightning split it, and some of it fell on their house causing minor damage. My car just looked like it had hail damage, but since it's old it got totalled, since repairs would have cost about 50% of its value. It still runs great, and really doesn't look bad at all. Stay safe in the coming ones, as I was walking the dog I was hearing thunder already so it doesn't bode well. Weird, in the past it was always Spring that was the worst storm season, but in the last decade or so it's been Summer and Fall. I don't know what that means, if anything, but it strikes me as odd.

Re: [DAY 4] Bioshock Mafia

~whew~ Caught up again! I saw my name mentioned as being "absent". I really don't feel like I've been absent, but maybe I have been. Life has a way of getting hectic and going by really quickly when you're busy. As an explanation... I had 2 crazy ass long work weekends in a row where I was home about 0% of my time, and when I was home I was too exhausted to effectively mafia. Then I was without power due to major storms. (Mata, did those come through your area too? How did you fare? We're having more come through the next few days, so fingers crossed nothing bad will happen and the power doesn't go out again. Be safe!!) Anyhoo, Friday and Saturday I'm dedicating to staying at home and RESTING. That will give me mafia time as well. :)

RIP all deadies!! :rip:

Ok, my thoughts so far: I don't like threats either, I think it's safe to say that Boo is NOT a civ. I'd be on board with voting him. I shan't be bullied and don't give in to threats. :noble: (Also, agreed, he definitely separated himself from civs by saying YOU instead of US or WE... making his threat even more obvious, rather than just an FYI.)

Nev, thanks for your comments Re: bea as well. It's many things put together there. There was something else she said that made me tweak too. This one:
bea wrote: llama - I've got no problems with you looking my way. I'm a civ this time round. If there's anything specific I can address, I'd be happy to.

I highlighted the part that tweaked me. I understand this is merely the "reading of tone", but to me it kind of sounds like something a baddie might say who is looking for something specific to defend against or discount.

Beyond that, Boats is definitely on my short list. Really any of these 3 would be fine with me. Right now I am putting Boats at the bottom simply because I need to refresh my mind on all the reasons I was looking there. I shall do a reread after I take this dang pup outside who will NOT stop fussing at me. It actually probably will take 10 minutes or less to do THAT reread. :srsnod: :p
