There's a chance the Galactica will be destroyed in a Cylon attack. I'm not sure there's any more significance regarding location than that.

Clearly, this can only have been based on your impression of DFaraday. :noble:

JaggedJimmyJay wrote:This guy literally just joined the game and he's ready to participate in a GTH reads exercise.
But this is a good thing, yeah? I could have coasted for a while on the typical (and understandable) "I'm just trying to catch up" posts that replacement players are prone to post, particularly in this avalanche of a game. I was ready to hit the ground running and did so. Otherwise this would be a rather dull ISO.
JaggedJimmyJay wrote:First mention of suspects beyond just Long Con (not including the GTH bad reads). Dex, is there reasoning behind your inclusion of these names beyond just the cylon claim controversy?
While I find the Unclaimers to be inherently suspicious, particularly those with weak reasons, I am not relying on solely on this for my reads. That particular post which you quote, however, was just the list LC+Undeclared, on where I was inclined to place my vote today.
JaggedJimmyJay wrote:Popular names to refer to as suspects. The total consensus on these names in itself is suspicious to me, and Dex is a part of that.
If it was a total consensus, then everybody would be "part of that". But these are all undeclared players whom I had already said I was willing to vote for. Wilgy's name had already come up a few times, so I listed him first in an attempt to foster more civ coordination. In the end, however, I decided to try and get a muntiny going.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Five

I guess I'm going to have to vote now. It kind of sucks because I have no sense of any concerted civ effort. But if I'm awake now, I doubt I'll be awake at seven in the morning when Cain can jump the fleet, and I want my vote to count whether or not she does.

I'd like to vote LC, because at this moment I think the biggest obstacle to a civ victory is Cain's Martial Law, and I believe LC is Cain. But there doesn't appear to be enough support just now for a mutiny.

I'd like to vote sig, but he declared today, and we'd just have to lynch him a second time, and I think we can ill afford to take two lynches to eliminate anybody, particularly while Martial Law is in effect.

I'd like to vote Zeebs, but she's not on the poll today. She's also one of the Suspicious Seven, and might need lynching twice.

I'd go along with voting Wilgy, Glorfindel, Rico, or Sok, three of which have received a vote, but none about which a consensus has formed. Additionally, they are all members of the Suspicious Seven, and so could declare to be cylons, and if they are, which I think quite possible, we're back to needing to lynch them twice.

So it's mutiny for me. I vote Long Con.

I also want to remind people that 10:03 EST marks the half-way point for this night, and after that time Admiral Cain can jump the fleet. If she does, any votes cast after the jump won't count. So you can bet that if LC likes how the votes stand at that point, he'll jump us. Assuming LC is Cain. And I do.

I intend to cast my vote before then, but, as that is 7:30 on a Saturday morning for me, we'll see.

but again - isn't that WHY everyone was pressuring people to claim? So that we could take someone like sig and vote him and make him pressure claim and see if he lives or dies by his "I'm a cylon" claim? Isn't that how we're supposed to stop cavil??? You do see what I'm saying? How is his non lynch a bad option if we REALLY think the non-claimers MUST be bad for not claiming? Doesn't that do EXACTLY what everyone pressuring everyone to claim says it was supposed to do? Make cylons burn their lynch protect? If we catch a cylon while they are burning it how is that bad or a waste?

It was good enough for D'anna/Lorab. Why isn't it good enough for sig?
I just think we should avoid having to lynch people twice as much as possible. With martial law, we already need to do 12 successful lynches to win, and if we have to lynch seven of them twice, that makes 19 successful lynches. I don't like those chances at all.

In terms if the show, btw, there isn't any Cain-related event to wait for. She shows up, takes over, declares martial law, ignores Roslin or any pretense of civil authority, shoots her XO in the head for insubordination, summarily arrests and courtmartials some of Galactica's crew, regularly tortures a 6 for kicks, and gets killed. I conclude that as long as Cain's in charge there's going to be martial law, and it won't go away until Cain does, and LCs pleas for time are just that, an attempt to buy time.

In the reboot, not so much (this is totally from the "only read multiple articles on the wiki & saw half of season one" perspective, I am going to bite the bullet & buy the mini series this weekend so season 1 makes more sense). Athena demonstrated that Cylons could be good, and Cain that humans could be bad. Is this correct? She seems somewhat of a tragic figure, but she seems driven by hate & revenge. No one could blame her personally for hating cylons in general, but it seeped into her command decisions, which is what made it bad.

Even if not for canon driven reasons that make me think this role is bad, I am not a fan of our win cons being made more difficult, since even if the remaining cylons seem to be predominantly bad, the Final Five, not so much.

If she backs down & restores our win cons, I am less likely to worry about her. But I view that win con thing as an act of aggression.
Pretty much. The Pegasus originally had an entourage of civilian ships like the Galactica, but she decided to strip them of vital equipment for spare parts for the Pegasus and left the people to die. For Cain, prosecuting the war against the Cylons trumped preserving the human race, which is kind of insane.

Plus, she delighted in torturing people. So... yeah.

I'm surprised you weren't all over the show.

Maybe she was an effective anti-Cavil in some way. If not all cylons are mafia, then it stands to reason that the ones that aren't have something to contribute to the civ cause, and I just don't think we should be burning these potential positive resources without a second thought. Lynching Cain first just might make lynching Cavil and his ilk easier.

If you know who Cavil is, I'm all for it. Otherwise, a mutiny gives us our best shot at victory. Besides which, although morality on the show was hardly black and white, if there was a character that came closest to pure evil outside of Cavil, it was Cain. I don't think she can possibly be civ. And so I regard her insistence on destroying all toasters suspect.

I don't think we should just calmly accept having to pull off (now) twelve successful lynches in order to win the game. What do you think our chances are of winning in those circumstances? To my mind, a better idea is to overthrow Caine (a Caine mutiny, as it were), and bring that number down to a more realistic number. And who knows how these potentially allied cylons might help us in that endeavor?

also whats your gender
Yes, I've been following along pretty closely and have formed definite opinions. There were times I wished I could have posted.

And I'm male, or a "pickle" in old HV parlance.

Cavil Faction: ones (Cavil), fours (O'Neill), fives (Doral) and Boomer (Cavil also hated the Final 5, wanting them dead and/or boxed), the Hybrid (if it exists) may be in this faction, or work as an indy

D'Anna's Group: twos (Leoben), threes (D'Anna), and Athena, Caprica Six may be in this faction, or work as an indy.
Resurrecting this post from the lovely and intelligent Indiglo. Given that I think it's obvious that there are civ cylons and mafia cylons, we're frakking the wrong toasters.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Four

"Number Three" is a model of humanoid Cylon, female, blonde, and marked by a religious curiosity—notably surrounding the verboten Final Five—that sets her against the other Cylon models, notably the Number Ones.
