For the SDN gang:
Since I know your threads auto-subscribe when you post in them, you might be accustomed to having subscription notifications. You can get those here, but they are not automatic. Near the top of the thread around the left side (just above the poll), click the "wrench" icon as seen below.

Re: [DAY 0] Literal WWerecreatures Invade Syndicate Zoo: An SDN Crossover Game
Is this really the place to play a game. I always felt this was a forum to, well, play a game, and discuss issues pertaining to the mafia game player. I look at the other mafia forums and see questions and concerns about their respective chosen votes. I look at the syndicate and see I game playing. At the very least, this just doesn't look professional. I see children here who are not serious about their game playing. Online gaming is fine, but not here.

Note: if any role blocking paradoxes are possible in this game, they will be resolved by timestamp of the last submission. First block wins. I will add this to the setup description in the second post.

It is generally considered poor form to refer to this feature during the game given whoever shows up down there as being "online" at any given moment. Likewise, be aware that site staff are able to see players that are set to "hidden" (including staff members playing in the game).

Everyone should be made aware that @Dennis is a minor and that @Kate is his mom. They've both played plenty around here, and everyone should feel free to speak the ways they normally would (profanity is not off limits or anything). Just please be mindful of this and avoid excessive nastiness (which is a rule anyway!) and certainly anything inappropriate. If there are any concerns please contact the hosts and/or Moderators on Duty. Thanks, everyone.

Re: [PRE-GAME] Literal WWerecreatures Invade Syndicate Zoo: An SDN Crossover Game
Navigating the voting process on The Syndicate
Newcomers to the site may often be unfamiliar with our methods for voting. We vote primarily with a poll, as this lightens the load on the hosting team to keep up with continual tallies. However, the poll comes with a critical limitation -- it does not track the order in which votes were placed. This means, at least in Jay's games, voting is handled both in the poll AND in the thread.
The poll is official. When we resolve the end of a day phase, we will be operating on the basis of the poll. However, players need to also call their votes in the game thread when they place them. This will make it reasonably plausible for players to keep track of when votes occurred, which is only fair. Please do not vote in the poll without also calling it in the thread, and please do not call a vote in the thread without also voting in the poll.
Voting in the poll is simple. Just click the radio button next to the player you wish to vote for and click "submit". To call your vote in the thread, use our vote tags:
[ vote ]PLAYER NAME GOES HERE[ /vote ] (no spaces in the brackets)
For example: [VOTE: JaggedJimmyJay] aubergine
The full-scale post editor also has a button for this if you prefer. See below.
"But Jay, why does the called vote say "aubergine" next to it in those tiny letters?"
This question we dare not ask. It was decided before we arrived on this Earth. Praise Aubergine.
(It's a unique word that players can use to quickly search for called votes via CTRL+F if they want to)
Accessing player ISOs
This one is pretty easy around these parts. There are three ways to do it, one of which is not mobile-friendly (the other two are).
Option 1: Use the ISO button directly embedded under a player's avatar. This is not available on mobile.
Option 2: Access the overall post count record from the subforum page, and then click the ISO button.
Option 3: Refer to the list of player names in the original post of the game thread. Once we are underway the hosts will add ISO links to that list.

Re: [PRE-GAME] Literal WWerecreatures Invade Syndicate Zoo: An SDN Crossover Game
Game rules and guidelines
PLEASE READ THESE BEFORE BEGINNING TO PLAY THE GAME. PLEASE READ THESE BEFORE BEGINNING TO PLAY THE GAME. PLEASE READ THESE BEFORE BEGINNING TO PLAY THE GAME.
1. The most important rule is to always remember that we are playing a game together on an Internet forum. Be kind and considerate as you are also being competitive, and be mindful of how your words might be received by others beyond the scope of a Mafia game.
2. Do not engage in behind-the-scenes-communication (BTSC) with other player(s) unless your role gives you the explicit right to do so.
3. You may not edit or delete any posts in the game thread.
4. It is legal to claim roles and to reveal role-related information publicly.
5. You may not target yourself with night actions unless otherwise stated.
6. It is legal for players with any roles to target the same player during consecutive night phases except for those with roles that can prevent fatal actions.
7. Players with BTSC may not submit night actions on behalf of one another. All actions must be submitted by the players performing them either by direct host contact or visible word of agreement.
8. @NANOOKTHEGREATANDFEARSOME and @supershorty are your Facilitators a.k.a. Moderators on Duty for this game. They're great. If you're getting irritated, frustrated, or pissed off, then I encourage you to send them a private message. They'll talk through it with you. They'll keep an eye on the game as play proceeds as well.
9. If you're dead, then please do not post anything remotely on-topic in the game thread. If you want to make an off-hand and off-topic comment, use this dead-read color. Please do not abuse this privilege by posting frequently. You're dead.
10. The same goes for non-players, who should use this non-player-blue color. Keep it off-topic.
11. Votes can be changed at will unless otherwise stated.
12. All roles will be revealed to the degree the hosts deem appropriate when players are either eliminated via day phase poll or killed.
13. I will use this font. You can use it too if you want. Just don't impersonate the host.
14. All members of winning factions will be declared winners, dead or alive, unless otherwise stated.
Super cereal host warning about angleshooting
Don't. We all know what straight-up cheating looks like (posting screenshots of host communications, illegal BTSC, etc). I don't care for anything that even remotely resembles cheating. Play both within the rules and within the authentic spirit of Mafia -- to sort the game exclusively with the content of this game thread, any legal BTSC, and/or your own role card. If you are considering something that you think might skirt the line, please ask the hosts first.
Participation standard
I don't like to establish any hard-line standard for participation, by post count or whatever. Still, it is important that everyone make a reasonable effort to participate in the game. At least a few posts per day phase would be a bare minimum. If I feel that any player is not participating enough to keep play entirely fair, then I will seek replacements. The hosts will resort to modkills if we must. The later we get into the game, the less inclined we will be to rely on any replacement. If something comes up and you will be unable to post for some manageable period, please let us know and we can work with that. If your computer explodes or your power fails, please try to at least shoot us a one-line alert on Discord.
Game cycles and voting procedures
1. Day phases will last approximately 48 hours and night phases will last approximately 24 hours. We will adhere to this as strictly as possible, but if life forces us to make adjustments then we will do so. We will begin with a 24-hour Day 0. It is possible that later in the game we will open a vote to reduce day phases to 24 hours, but if we do so it will be handled entirely in private and only proceed if the vote is unanimous.
2. We will need all night actions submitted to us at least one hour prior to the night phase end time to ensure that we am able to process them efficiently.
3. Any players with behind-the-scenes-communication (BTSC) may engage in such communication during all phases of the game.
4. All voting will be decided by plurality at the day phase deadlines. There is no majority or hammer vote.
5. In the event of a tied vote, the elimination will be decided at random among all tied players unless otherwise stated.
6. IT IS OBLIGATORY THAT YOU PLACE YOUR VOTE IN THE POLL AND CALL IT IN THE GAME THREAD WITH THE [ VOTE ]PLAYERNAME[ /VOTE ] TAGS. Since the poll does not record voting order, it is essential that players follow this rule so that everyone has a fair chance of assessing vote history in proper sequence. Jay will be a stickler about this.
7. During night phases the thread will be locked.
Jay's party pooper rule about asking the hosts questions
Please do so via private message. If we deem the question to both warrant an answer and be of public interest, we will answer publicly. If we deem the question to warrant an answer for your private interest, we will answer privately. If we deem the question to not warrant an answer, we will send you smarmy shrug emojis.
You can contact us on-site or via Discord. JaggedJimmyJay#5544 and Dubz#3569
However, despite this party pooper rule, be aware that the hosts may still elect to make periodic lighthearted posts in the game thread, as this is true to the Student Doctor Network spirit. We will not comment on game-relevant matters, but we may be silly once in a while. Allow that to influence your view of the actual game at your own peril.
NOTE: If your question is just about navigating the interface of the website, go ahead and ask that publicly if you want. This rule is meant for questions about the game itself.

Re: [PRE-GAME] Literal WWerecreatures Invade Syndicate Zoo: An SDN Crossover Game
Setup Information
The setup is probably best described as "semi-closed" (which may be synonymous with semi-open, but let's say it favors the closed side). The exact roles contained in the game are not explicitly public, but you shall be made aware of the kinds of roles that are possible.
Roles have been constructed from a pseudo-random process involving rolls of the dice (so I rolled the roles!) to gather ideas and build the skeleton of the game. From there though, the hosts have tweaked and tampered as they see fit to manage the fairest balance and most fun prospects we reasonably can. I will provide you with certain "rules" that apply to the design of the game, and you can trust that these rules are true and unchanging. They are as follows:
~ The game contains more than two factions.
~ The vast majority of role abilities can apply to members of any faction.
~ No player will ever have their faction changed (e.g., there is no recruitment mechanism).
~ Animal characters/flavor are entirely unrelated to both alignment/affiliation and role abilities.
~ Role abilities may exist in essentially any combination regardless of faction, if they exist at all. Solve each other, not the hosts.
Base role design process
All roles have been designed, by way of both randomization and host discretion, to feature up to one standard ability (if any). This ability is drawn from a master list of role abilities, and it may have modifier(s) attached to it drawn from master lists of modifiers. These lists are featured below. Note that role descriptions contained in the spoiler are summarized. Actual role cards contain more thorough descriptions role abilities.
Base roles
Modifiers
For example, I could roll some dice given these roles and modifiers. Then, out pops a role: non-fatal delayed motion detector. Dubz and I then decide if this role should stay in the game in its current form, or if it should be tinkered with or removed. Our processes for those decisions will not be revealed.
Community roles
Some players have additional role abilities, unrelated to their base roles, that relate explicitly to the community-crossover orientation of this game. These are entirely bonus abilities, and they do not operate in accordance with standard Mafia/Werewolf mechanics. They do not count as "visits", so they cannot be observed by investigative roles, impacted by role blocks, or affected by the mechanics of base roles in any other ways. These are community roles. These abilities may resemble ordinary mechanical abilities and/or be entirely unusual.
Loud night actions
This game will feature some loud night actions. This is a common practice for Student Doctor Network games, but it may be new to many Syndicate players. If a night action is “loud”, this means that the player being targeted is notified that they were targeted in some capacity (either explicitly or through flavor writing). They will not be informed of who targeted them. Roles indicate explicitly if they are loud.
Role blocking paradoxes
If two blocking roles (e.g., role blockers and/or jailkeepers) target each other, the first block submitted that night will win the paradox. The timestamp will be based upon the last official submissions made by each player that night.

You are a goldfish.
[insert image and flavor text here]
You are aligned with the town faction.
Your base role contains no special abilities (you are vanilla).
You do not have a community role.
Your win condition is to eliminate all threats to the town faction.
