Another interesting bit from this game:

LC and I had no BTSC on Day 2 or Night 2. We had to separately submit N2 kills, and if they didn't match Nanook randomized.

I sent a kill on Tony. I figured he was the rolecop thing and wanted it gone. I also wanted to try to egg nutella into thinking Epi and I are the team and maybe snag a quickhammer on Epi.

LC sent a kill on nutella, which is what ended up happening. Obviously it worked out. I wonder how the game changes if that randomizes differently.

I totally get it, Epi. It may not be easy to see for everyone especially from different game cultures, but this is different. There is a clash of philosophy at the core of how one may interpret mechanical data. We know how much bullshitting we have seen here over the years with mechanics, and how they can be used to obfuscate reality. So when they’re closer to an objective reflection of the game, it isn’t obvious unless you have been there before.

Games with very tight alignment ratios must necessarily be heavily mechanical in design, or they cannot be balanced. 8 vs. 3 only works if some information really is 100% solid. That’s just the lesson going forward. Epi isn’t alone here either — LC and I could have easily failed in designing this gambit. Hell, maybe we DID fail, and that can be attributed to our relative inexperience too.

I'm also super pleased with the way our first two Racket games have gone.

This game is also a nice study in balancing mechanisms that many Cindy Kates aren't accustomed to. Given the style of games that have most-often been played here, 8 vs. 3 is never fair. With that in mind, I understand Epignosis's doubts about that, for instance.

But I think the balance here was quite reasonable. In a game of this build, the ratios must inherently tighten because mechanical clearances abound. This is similar to what the folks on HCR know best -- their ratios tend toward this tighter formation as well.

I guess this makes DS and I 2-0 as teammates.

Thanks for the game [mention]NANOOKTHEGREATANDFEARSOME[/mention]. It's a jarring return to the kind of mechanical game construction I haven't seen as much since my time on RYM and a few games on HCR. I knew Tony was a major threat here because of his background. Us no-claim-accustomed Cindy Kates are in a tough place adapting to this kind of game, and I'm glad you gave us something to chip off the rust Nanook.

Tony was a huge reason why we found ourselves in a position to gambit in the first place. He blew up everything we had tried to design with POE. This group was ours to eliminate:

Jiwon
nutella

So, Tony sends nutella’s role to Mac. Mac neighbors with Jiwon.

ALL FOUR OF THEM could clear each other. Tony deserves a ton of credit for that. It definitely ruined the game state I was working toward.

It's an efficient manner of compiling content into one place and making judgments without tirelessly commenting on every single post when I don't even know who is going to be night killed. The "essential question" is "how do we win the Mafia game?". You're playing dumb here. There's a reason I take this approach to solving so often -- it is effective. This isn't some novel shit. You know this.

Relationships with DS are important and should be considered. When the game state clearly demands reassessment however, as you illustrate this one does with your strikethroughs, then this split no longer holds water. There must be something wrong in that green pile. That's why I have to charge myself with the task of figuring it out by way of interactions beyond just DS. Because it was DS that led me to that split in the first place. Which is why this is trash:

First, any influence civilians can have on a mafia faction's kill is a good thing. JJJ knows this.

Second, the privilege of posting during the Night phase is to the civilian faction's benefit because it can keep continued pressure on the mafia. JJJ knows this too.

But even if I'm generous and agree that there are two mafia members left (I don't see any evidence to support that notion), by hammering no lynch, JJJ buried the Day phase in silence and then encouraged the Night to pass in silence.

Just got caught up, and I see the lynch ends at 3. Dunya, I know my ISO isn't that meaty. I don't usually get more heavily involved in a game until a lynch or two has gone by.

I don't suspect Epignosis, this looks fine for him. I do think that Duskfall's analysis of Epi could be TMI-related, because I don't think he knows how Epi plays.

In which Epignosis plucks out things with Duskfall's name in them and takes stances for no discernible reason. Duskfall gave some alignment-vacant dismissal of DS's vanilla thing, and that was a "small point for him". Why? What is to like about Duskfall and DS babbling over mechanics?

When I don't know why a Duskfall read exists, I can on some level attribute that to the cultural differences in our Mafia experience. At 451 for example, that kind of thing is prevalent. I cannot say the same for Epignosis. I should have some clue why he feels this way.

My claim was true, and I only provided it because why the hell not -- by the point I wanted to make use of it, we had been double-modkilled into Mimlo and neutralized it. Duskfall has crafted this fake claim out of the real role I provided and melded it with my having been removed from a poll most likely by dunya.

Epi popping in now with a new view that my claim was "bogus" probably means those two are the team. They fit together in my review, and I will expand on that now.

I really don't even know how to defend my Jack vote lol. I had a snap read of him from his first couple posts, I fairly quickly retracted the "regardless of leetic's alignment" part but that was more due to my change of heart about leetic based on dunya's meta -- though by the end of day that had basically nullified itself and I was back to being fine with the leetic elimination, but never put my vote back both to avoid hammer and because I didn't really feel that strongly about it either way. Why my vote stayed on Jack specifically I don't have much reason for other than I was lazy, felt like my vote didn't matter and didn't have a strong case on anyone else. I did feel better about Jack as his activity progressed but never really arrived at a solid townread of him, and of course Jay skipped his own slot in the analysis so I'd have to look into DS interactions but I think the JackJay slot can still be in the POE.

As for DS, I was moderately surprised when he flipped scum but it also made things make sense in a way -- for instance the "clear" thing, I felt sketched out by that not necessarily just for hard-angleshoot reasons but because I suspect we don't actually have any vanilla townies in this game. I could be wrong of course but it felt off to me and in retrospect makes a lot of sense as a wolf attempting to get credit for being "vanilla" and the fact that it didn't land for anyone as fas as I could tell reinforced that it was an oopsie.

[Mostly-OT] Btw the "yetl" thing is a reference to an incident from a previous season of champs (that I didn't witness firsthand but have heard tell of), I believe the season that DS claims to have been "robbed" of winning lol. Basically he was in F3 with locked-in votes, there was a player named Yeti, and DS baited out the wolf by deliberately voting for a misspelling of Yeti's name so it wouldn't actually go through, and when the other player jumped on it DS caught them as a wolf and voted them instead, and I believe it is the reason that MU added the "invalid vote" warning. It's controversial but I think it was hilarious and clever tbh, I can see why it could be considered dirty play and why they changed the vote label to dissuade it, but I don't know if I'd call it "angleshooting" per se. I can't speak for why DS stuck me in his town pile so easily other than assuming it was a pocket attempt.

Mac and Jiwon are my top suspects, and JackJay deserves more scrutiny as well. I have some reasons to feel more good than bad about Tony and LC. Our first three alphabetical players are essentially lock town imo.

To be clear, I don't actually give a shit about the wording from a "reading Dusk" standpoint. I think attempting to read a player based on the wording of his role pm is against the spirit of the game and I have modkilled people for taking it way further than LC is here and I have written dozens of fakeclaims and long paragraphs of rules mumbo jumbo to avoid this thing.

I was talking about what the Host said in the rules, not what you said. I don't think it's any sort of angleshoot, when Duskfall comes out and says it like that, it becomes an unavoidable issue and possible scumslip. If it were just something Nanook had mentioned in a post, it wouldn't have caught my attention, but it's literally the first rule.

There are a few isolated moments in this dialogue that I think are telling -- I have highlighted them. If Long Con is a mafioso, he has taken some angles against Duskfall that I don't think look like distancing. That "KYLO" thing would be a pretty meaningless gotcha, for example. It's a bias. I know more about LC and Jack in general than I do about Jiwon and thus feel I would have a better chance identifying their alignments later than I would Jiwon.

I would imagine that a buff is a bonus on their inherent power. I don't associate "buff" with being off the poll. Maybe that's a buff for someone who has no abilities.

I have concerns here. Epignosis has never provided a read on Long Con in this game. He hedged in that "would/would not eliminate" list, made a note about one DS interaction without a conclusion, and has left the read undeveloped. Long Con has been predominantly pro-Epignosis, albeit with at least one hedge of his own (highlighted). I would call these two compatible as mafia teammates.

Tony's entrance into the game speaks to me here. He voiced displeasure with the state of affairs and placed the finger of blame squarely on Epignosis. Whether that was fair or not, I don't think it looks like the stuff of teammates.

I am considering a dialogue I had yesterday in the spec chat with our friends Ranmilla and Arapocalypse about Mimlo situations -- they suggest it is optimal to engage in no hunting during this period (essentially right now for us in this open night phase) as a means of 1) saving energy for the Limlo hunt with almost all of the same information available, 2) removing one player from the focus of that hunt, and 3) limiting information for the mafia to decide their kill. It's compelling and I am inclined to give it a try here.

I still intend to review the game on my own and determine where I stand on everything. I may not share it though. I am open to dissent there. It's counter to my usual methods, but I am rather fascinated by it as a chance for personal growth and experimentation.

Nevermind my concert, I forgot half of my role. Had at least half of you attended it would have automatically redirected the night kill to me, which would have been wonderful. But it doesn't work entering a Mimlo/Limlo so meh

Apparently your suspects are the same as my own nutella, with yourself replaced with me. You refer to Tony as a sort of “alternate” for the POE pool, which doesn’t strike me as a significant departure from my own pool. What does this say to you?
