Mercury is our planet's first and smallest planet, hurling itself chaotically around the Sun at too close a distance for any sort of safe human visitation even with most types of unmanned probes. It's an odd little place that happens to boast one of the longest day-night cycles in the Solar System, with its entire Mercurial yearly revolution around the Sun consisting of less than two Mercurial day rotations. Its temperature also varies wildly with no atmosphere to sustain any Greenhouse effect. At night it's far colder than Earth on the surface despite being so much closer to the Sun.

Uranus is an absolute mystery to me. Even after living a full childhood of constant fascination and obsession with all things space, I learned so much about every planet except for Uranus. It's a magnificent gas giant with some bizarre properties. It seems to roll on its axis rather than rotate as the other planets do, and it leads to a faint ring system that orbits the planet vertically. I find it particularly interesting that Uranus, while still quite large as is any gas giant, is not nearly as massive as Jupiter or Saturn. Its comparison to Earth is almost comprehensible at least at the level of raw volume. I need to learn more about our lost cyan neighbor, and it deserves better than to be made the butt of every joke. Including that joke. I said butt. Uranus.

Venus is my personal favorite planet, as it is a fascinating analog to Earth in so many ways. It's our nearest planetary neighbor and very similar in size and stature. The major difference comes in its atmospheric composition, with a huge amount of carbon dioxide gas perpetuating an intense Greenhouse effect that superheats the planet. Venus is the hottest planet in our Solar System despite Mercury being nearer to the Sun as a direct product of its atmosphere, and it may portend a certain Doomsday (albeit immensely exaggerated) destiny for Earth if the effects of climate change and global warming are not curbed. The heat and pressure have stalled most interest in visiting Venus even with unmanned probes, but the Soviets did make one critical landing on the surface to produce one of the coolest photographs in human history. The probe lasted only seconds after snapping this photo.

Jupiter is a terrifying monstrosity at the doorway to the outer Solar System. It's easily our largest planet, and it also features some of our largest moons (e.g., Ganymede, Io, Europa, and Callisto). Just the sight of it can be frightening, with its stack of swirling reds, whites, and oranges, the great red spot, and its incredible scale. The interior is largely a mystery, as at any significant depth the pressure is too great for human instruments to function and provide measurements. We know though that there is a vast liquid metallic hydrogen layer just over the core, however, and such a substance cannot exist in ordinary Earth conditions where the pressure is insufficient and the temperature is too high. Indeed, this state of matter in general is beyond our reach outside advanced laboratories, as it is not properly classified as a solid, liquid, gas, or plasma.

Lemonfairy (Mars) is an inhospitable and barren wasteland that we hold close in our hearts as our second-nearest planetary neighbor (only Venus is closer). We've dreamt of putting a human on the Martian surface since the Moon landing 54 years ago, and perhaps we're approaching a time where it will be feasible -- albeit at the whims of annoying opportunistic capitalists. This is at least the second appearance of Mars in a Syndicate game, after @Marmot referenced the mighty Olympus Mons (tallest mountain in the Solar System) in his Mountains Mafia game that we will otherwise omit from the record for reasons. Mars has two cool non-spherical moons that were likely asteroids stolen via gravitation from the belt that guards passage to the outer system. They are Phobos and Deimos.

Voting and Claiming Rules

1.) Claim whatever you want if anything. This game has no roles.
2.) Votes in the poll are official, and I will only consider the poll votes when I resolve a day phase. It is still obligatory to call votes in the game thread, as the poll does not track voting order. Call your votes to make it possible to discern timing and order. This is not optional. Please call votes with the [ vote ][ /vote ] tags (no spaces).
3.) Votes are changeable with no limitations.
4.) Voting is not obligatory. There is no requirement to vote in any phase whatsoever. There are participation standards though, which I'll cover separately.
5.) The player who has received the most votes at the deadline shall be chopped. If a majority vote is reached (next integer above 50% the number of living players), the day phase will end immediately. There will be no majority vote in effect on Day 1.
6.) In the event of a tied vote, the chopped player shall be decided among the tied names at random.
7.) A "no elimination" option will be included each day phase. This option must lead the tally with no ties to be enacted at any time.

Participation Standard

There is no rigid standard for participation; this will be at the host's discretion. All players are expected to make a sincere effort to contribute to the game thread consistently enough that their content can be fairly judged. Non-participation has an adverse effect upon the balance of the game. If I decide a player is not participating enough to facilitate this balance, that player will be replaced. If a replacement cannot be found, there might be a modkill. With this in mind I reiterate: it's very important that everyone try to participate. At least a few posts per day/night cycle are a bare minimum.

Other

1.) Respect all guidelines and rules found in The Syndicate's announcements section. Above all else, treat your fellow players with respect -- this is just a game.
2.) BTSC (behind the scenes chatter) is only permitted in host-designated locations.
3.) No editing or deleting of posts in the game thread.
4.) Just don't make posts when you're dead unless you have been given express permission by the host.
5.) Non-players may not post in the game thread.
6.) Living players wishing to discuss something off-topic may choose to do so in {Off-Topic} Green. There's an "OT" button for this in the post editor. This is not required.
7.) If you ever have any questions about the rules, roles, or setup, please ask me privately.
