Re: [DAY 3] Avant-Garde Mafia 2

Now on to chaindeath's vote he feels that Droopy has defended himself poorly. However chaindeath gives you brownie points for being an active participant in the forums. :) Forced or not, it's good to see you talking. (he wishes for no word twisting here, and would like to request earnestly that this not be thought "Oh, well, he doesn't post all that much either." Its not that he don't want to post, he just is not as quick on picking up some of the nuance of this game :))
Chaindeath is mixing tenses here, as well as subjects. If Droopy defended HIMSELF poorly, chaindeath should give HIM (not you) brownie points.

SVS would like to give chaindeath brownie points, as speaking in the third person is not so easy as it appears to be at a glance.

DharmaHelper wrote:Maybe I'm just put off by how incredibly agressive you've been all game, but I am hesitant to trust anything you say as genuine in nature. You seem to be very strong arm-ish, which I usually associate with baddies.

Dunno, as I said I'm not quite willing to buy into the impending Droopwagon, probably exclusively because you seem so determined to get people on board.
When it comes to Kate, I associate a strong and forward game with being a civ. You can call it aggression if you like, but whatever you call it, I don't see her doing it as a baddie. She is more cautious when bad, by far.

Were I get on the Droopwagon, though, it would be based on his own posts and statements, not based on whether or not someone else suports it.

The fact that you are willing to discount some very provocative statements totally based on who thinks he is bad this early in the game sounds like you could be trying for a save to me, and I know that you can be a very bold baddie.

I am probably going to vote for Vomp, though. He was second on the collective suspish-o-meter on Day One, then on Day Two, you would think he would have been an easy lynch and that Beas team would have pushed him as a viable alternative, but they didn't. That gets a tilt of the head from me, maybe even the crick of an eyebrow.

So considering that he has been garnering suspicion all game, and the fact that a fairly large baddie team tried for Rabbit rather than Vomp makes me feel less than good about him, especially after he started the Rabbit run.

I am going to reread Day One later. In all the talk of benefits from voting a certain way, maybe something concrete can be distilled out of it. I am not sure what function Vomp is fulfilling, but i am becoming more sure his quirky behavior has a point to it, a reason behind it.

Boomslang wrote:I'm not sure why the low poster thing is such a big deal. Directing suspicion and conversation, thereby turning people away from you, seems to be more advantageous to the bads.
It can be hard for baddies to have real suspicions, so they often fade back. But i happen to agree with you, being out there can be advantageous to a baddie.

But the low poster conversation here is not about the low posters themselves~ when baddies have suspicion on them, they often try to turn the conversation to "low posters" in order to take the suspicion off of themselves~ in a quiet thread or a thread without suspicions, low posters often get lynched for not participating and becasue people suspect them, of being "blendy", or fading back. So for me, when there are real suspicions in the thread, turning to low posters seems like something a baddie would do since most people would rather lynch someone for suspicions, rather than for low participation.

So Droopy bringing up low posters when his name has been mentioned as possibly being someone trying to save Bea seems kind of suspect :shrug2:

RIPIYWG, BIH if you were not. I did not have much of a feel for Axxon, he appeared to be silenced yesterday, and was not overly chatty prior to that. Illy was, very much so. Therefore, the assumption is that she has some other reason to not want DFaraday dead, otherwise why write 3 paragraphs about it? Only a baddie would be upset by the baddies playing poorly.

Linki - Bea, I'm literally going to bed right now & like I said I'm not home in time for the poll's end. Look at what time it ends at today.
Faraday had more posts than many, he was not "barely participating". I am not upset by "baddies playing poorly", a death that surprises me instead of making me roll my eyes is baddies playing well, IMO. Another thing i was trying to do is to get the people who knew him to get talking about why someone would kill Devin as well. This is what civvies do, try to figure out WHY someone was killed cause it makes it easier to figure out WHO killed them.

I am not upset at all, I am confused by what happened and trying to make sense out of it, or at least, what sense can be made in this context. Also shaking the tree a bit. This involves saying something very overt, and seeing who is upset by it, lol.

So not sure what to think of these votes.

I can't figure out why someone would kill Faraday Night One. It makes no sense to me. The only person he seemed to suspect was Leech, who was a civ. He is always slow to bring his suspicions to the table, and very measured in doing so, and fairly easy to frame if you are bad, so baddies don't kill him often. I can't think of one reason anyone would kill Faraday, I read all of his posts like 5 times, and I am at a loss. He wasn't even a low poster.

TBH, I don't see a compelling reason to kill Devin either, but I don't know him well enough to gauge how threatening he may be to someone who DOES know him.

That's one of many things I love about hosting mafia games is exposing other people to awesome music/TV shows/video games/etc. that perhaps they hadn't been fully knowledgeable of before. Of course, there's the fantastic flipside of being the one exposed to new items as well while playing a mafia game. I actually started watching Futurama at the insistence of one Mr. Droopy Cash and because of the recent Futurama game over at RM, for just one example.
Yeah it's really cool, because first I was hoping to get someone I already knew about like Mike Patton but instead I got another artist I can say I'm becoming a fan of.
Being Damo Suzuki in a game totally turned me on to Can :)

OR it might be an attempt to split the vote of the potential Leech voters and attempting a lynch on a third party? Both baddie teams are so BIG, 5 players each.

But you just said that the association with Leech is what makes Vomp look suspicious. So...if you don't like the idea of voting for Leech, why would you like the idea of voting for Vomp, who is suspicious to you due to his association with...Leech?

I am going to vote for Leech, this thread is making me paranoid, lol, and I should be out of it

Interesting move by Vomp.

I was planning on probably voting for Leech, but that post from Vomp kinda makes me nervous. Like the over the topness of it is an attempt to frame Leech. Or an attempt to make us THINK that.

Ugh :(

I am not trying to tell him to vote for you, I am asking him, within the context of the vote he did make, to explain why he did NOT vote for you who had less posts than the person he DID vote for for being a low poster. And no, I did not know you voted for me lol.

And once you get to know me, you will know I thrive on attention.

I mentioned The Truth in an earlier post, and unless I've missed something, I haven't seen them post at all. Therefore, I vote to lynch The Truth. My apologies if you did post before this vote. (Now I have to double-check!)
I withdraw this statement. The Truth did post fairly early on Day 1. I'm glad I checked...my vote changes to BoatsBoatsBoats with no Day 1 posts thus far.
Interesting vote Droopy~ Benthayer had no posts on any days, why didn't you vote for him?

Linki, until just now lol
I'm not keeping track of everyone who posts...I just looked through the list of names to see if any of them stood out as unfamiliar. After going through the list, I thought I remembered benthayer posting...but you're right (I didn't go through all the Day 0 posts again to see who did and didn't post). If I would've known I'd still be home atm, I wouldn't have voted then. But Boats still hasn't posted so I don't really regret my decision...yet. lol
Yes, but you actually read their posts as well, being as you knew when they were made. I am not ready to vote for you over this, but this has really gotten my eye. Big time.

Yeah, trying to find suspicions is not "causing trouble" IMO. It's a civvies responsibility.

And it seems to me that Leech may have been distancing a tad, putting out some damage control for Vomp. If Leech is lynched and flips bad, I might look that way~

Kate wrote:You are either 1. Voting a known civvie or 2. Voting a baddie, I assume you will say you are doing the former, thus my quesion, why would you vote for someone you are certain is a civvie (assuming that is your stance)?
You're spinning this because "voting a known civvie" carries a bad connotation and "voting for yourself", what I did, doesn't. At all. The reason why is because when you self-vote, you don't make a case for why anyone else should make the same vote, and thus you're not trying to get the civvie lynched. The purpose of self-voting is to just VOTE, when you have no other suspicions. Not only do I find a randomizer not the better option, to me it's a more suspicious action. Two baddies on the same team can claim to use a randomizer and "coincidentally" end up with the same player who's not on their team or a civvie, getting him or her lynched.

I feel like you consciously believe that it's not a suspicious move (after all, a lot of people admitted to considering it (and doing it) themselves after my action became a hot topic), which sparks my suspicions for you. Add that to the fact that there was a good space between my post and yours and no one else found it suspicious enough to say so. You were the first to speak bad about it, and by doing so you created a freak chain of spotlight which sparked other people's suspicions because if I'm not mistaken your "suspicions" of me (that is, again, if you actually find my move suspicious) was the first stated suspicion of anyone there was. Baddie move? I won't make that conclusion this early but it seems very strange to me.
I think you are twisting a bit here yourself, my friend. The "connotation" is not the issue, the reality is the issue. In my experience baddies worry more about "connotation" and how things look and sound, and less about how they actually are.

And TBH the person known for doing it, Jason Maher, has gotten himself lynched for it on at least one occasion. He did it in every game to avoid having to make a reasoned Day One vote in games he played as a baddie. He was basically setting himself up for a free ride on Day One when he was bad, it was clever. But it was a baddie move nevertheless, even when he did it in games he played as a civvie. And viewing it as such is understandable.

Because the end result of a self vote if it does not garner you suspicion is that you did not have to make a vote you needed to explain. And this seems premeditated, which, like worrying about "connotations", seems kinda bad to my eye.

Someone said this defense made them feel better about you. Sadly, it made me feel worse.

Linki @ Kate~ Yeah, I just reread them, and I did not see anything in there. I read the civvies too just to be sure, and if there is a rational role based reason to self vote as a civvie, I am not sure what it is, especially not having had a Night yet.

Is DP in the house? Nice to see Damo as a civ in this game :)

• Damo Suzuki
– This crazed singer has a personal bag of mushrooms he can tap into every night. Others might consider him an expert on the matter of such substances, but he is really too inarticulate most of the time to even consider the thought himself. He can grab one mushroom at random out of his bag every night to use on himself or on another player of his choice. Unbeknownst to Damo, there may be a few other random non-mushroom items in that bag as well. (Secrets)

LOLOL me too :)

OK, a few pages behind in my reread. I was thinking "benefit of the doubt" re Leech until the "Damage Control Unit" as I believe Illy called it, came in. Now, not so sure. He was a quirky and whimsical player (as was Vomp, really) and I could totally see him self voting for the reasons he said. I was a bit more :eye: at his assertion that perhaps MP was LIMITING us to 3 posts, so he was gonna stop talking.

But too many people seem to have too much speculative knowledge based on secrets which are...secret. I have to reread the baddie roles to see if the secret in question is as obvious as some seem to imply it may be.

Perhaps the last few pages will clarify for me. But at this point, while I would not love voting for Leech (I really looked forward to playing a game with him again), I would consider it.

I find myself kind of in your camp, Devin. That whole "Residents" thing totally deterred me from Pluto. Did any of the Pluto voters also play Avant 1?

I have to catch up here today, I am woefully behind. Three games and a rough week at work (all the weird crap the people in our branches hide under their desks all year cause they don't know WTF to do with it HAS to get submitted by 12/31, so the first week of the year I, literally, have a desk full of misery) have led me to fall behind in two of three games, and this is one of them.

No way no how would any host try to limit posting. I would not interpret his posting requirement that way.

Re: [DAY 1] Avant-Garde Mafia 2: The Ultimate Dimensional Ba

Also reading back, I am not all that suspish of anyone for wanting to make their posts up front. For people who post alot like me, it's not an issue. For quieter players, not wanting to get a punishment is not out of line.

I saw MP kill 9 non-voters in one post (he says it was a mechanic, but I know he was pretty pissed off at the non voters before that, lol). So when MP says "punishment", anyone who has been hosted by him should jump to and give him 20 (or whatever it is he wants).

Reading back, I came across:

Can you show me exactly what in the post following the vote that makes it seem like it was a bad choice? Otherwise, just speculation...like the vote itself. Any reason why you want people to focus on the earth voters?
MovingPictures07 wrote: As the ship subsequently traveled through the portal, a weird vacuum-like sound could be heard by everyone in the ship, but it seemed to have no effect on any of them.
Maybe I'm still just speculating, but I don't like that vacuum sound. It SEEMED to have no effect, but is anything really as it seems in this game? Whatever it was, it sounded inside the ship, as no sound can travel in space itself. Therefore, something had an effect in our safe haven of Captain Spectacular's vessel.
I have to agree with Boomslang about the sound, I have reread the post more than once (and plan to do so a few more times, lol) and feel that, like the "resident" in the poll about Pluto, it isn't random word choice. So I do not necessarily suspect the Earth voters for that vote, but I am worried about that sound, too.
insertnamehere wrote:On the mysterious humming noise, it could just be a story device to indicate that we had passed through, like in the video game Portal. Yeah it is mass guessing (nice way of putting it, actually), but there is very little randomness about MP at all, so I am always a tad paranoid about his wording. He is a precise man, he does not throw random words about willy nilly.

Ha ha this made me think of the "mysterious ticking noise" video which always make me laugh~

Re: [DAY 1] Avant-Garde Mafia 2: The Ultimate Dimensional Ba

Yeah, Epi, at PA we did have to post the votes, and keep tallies. A site many of us have played at called STV played that way, too.

But yeah, voting without posting is called a "drive by" by some, and is viewed as a potential sneak attack of sorts.

Interesting watching the interactions between groups and traditions; is there an anthropologist in the house?

Um, vague results are unsurprising, I half expected 1/3 of us to go to one reality, 1/3 to another and 1/3 to yet a third. So the results we had are rather nice, if somewhat vague. Which is kinda scary, in a totally different way.
