A Song Of Ice & Fire Mafia: A Game of Factions

This will be a game of multiple factions. They all will have BTSC or the potential for it. The all have varying win conditions, that may harmonize or contradict. Some will have secret conditions.

HERE BE SPOILERS

Be warned. This is based on the books. There will be few if any major plot points revealed that are not on the TV show, but there WILL be characters NOT SHOWN ON THE TV SHOW. If you only watch the show, or are not finished with the books to date (A Dance With Dragons is the last book published so far. Maybe forever. GRRM does not take good care of himself, he's writes s l o w l y ...)

The members of each faction will be filled out between now & the poll time, and will, of course, be subject to the number of people signed up. Factions will have from 1 to 5 members. The factions will probably include:

The Starks (cannot win with Lannisters)
The Lannisters (Cannot win with Starks)
The Martells (Cannot win with Lannisters)
Daenerys' Court
The Shy Maid (cannot win with Starks or Lannisters or Team Stannis)
The Nights Watch (Cannot win with the Others)
Maid of Tarth
Tyrion
Baelish (LMS)
The Cleganes (cannot win with each other)
Stannis the Mannis & Mel
Others (Cannot win with Wall or Melisandre)
Team Weirwood
Boltons & Freys (cannot win with Starks)
Hodor (Hodor)
The Citadel (cannot win with Team Weirwood, the Others or Danys Court)

There could be more. Or less. There might be very small factions, or fewer, depending on interest.

If it goes over well, we might make this a Westeros Only Edition, and split it into two parts. The idea for this has been floating around for a while, but we could not see how to make it work. boos Monopoly game made it come together in a workable form. It will not be a traditional "Civvies vs baddies" game; the Lannisters, for instance, can win with the Nights Watch.

If this goes well, I can readapt it for a full game, with up to 40 players.

As I am not getting married next year, I forsee no reason why I would have to dis my most favorite host/co-host evah a second time. (still SO sad I missed American Gods. )

Great idea -great fun!! I'm in however I can best help this project. I'd love to play it - if it grows REALLY big and you need help - I'd love to help!

Ironically - just started re-reading Dance - I left my phone at work last night and spent most of today waiting on the bus. So many people were randomly talking to me about the fact that I was carrying around a book and more specifically *that* book. May be trading all my GOT books to one of my drivers for access to his copies of Watchmen and Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. (things that I've always wanted to read, but haven't had access too) - We were talking and he's all "I just don't know when I'd fit it in, I'm a slow reader." and I get that. I pulled open the book and was all "Ok, I'm re-reading, but yea - waiting and riding on three busses this afternoon, I'm 100 pages in." hehe.

No matter how slow he is, he will probably still finish before Winds of Winter comes out ha ha.

You could make a standard mafia game with this theme instead than a factions one if you just themed it like "who is behind the assassination of Robert Baratheon" and then make it a closed setup and randomly pick who the betrayers ultimately turned out to be in this alternative universe version of the story.

OMG it turns out that Jon Snow, Daavos Seawarth, Meat Pie and Khal Drogo were united together to unseat the king. Unbeknownst to the realm Khal Drogo is actually a gentleman and a scholar!

If you did do that, you could play it as a closed setup, roleplay encouraged and it could be the first game in the Mafia League.

This looks really neat, complicated but cool.
I always liked the idea of a GoT mafia, but the few I've seen didn't have a great set up. I think this could be an exception and be an epic game. Especially since you aren't following the TV show.

Though why would the Boltons and Freys be on the same team.
Also would you be including like Lady Stoneheart?

I personally think a full game would work better and be more interesting.

And In a full game, 100% for Stoneheart. Although she, in both her incarnations is my least favorite "civvie" character, the interplay between so many roles that could be based on her... the potential levels of intricacy are insane

She could take the Brienne story are to so many new heights.

She could start Pre-Stoneheart and if certain actions happened she could become Stoneheart, so kind off like a traitor role.

How do you plan to work the Start faction? They mostly split away and aren't really Starks anymore. Would they start as Starks and maybe progress into a different team? Or am I just geeking out way to much. :P

This game if done would be put into next years game queue thread right. So we wouldn't be playing it until 2017?

It's a speed game to start. If it does well, I would expand it for the poll next year.

Also, I heard a rumor that, just in case he doesn't finish the last 2 books before he ... goes on vacation... GRRM shared the ending of the series with his wife and best friend (I think it was his best friend). So either way, we will have an ending

Also also, I'm about half way through Dance. I'm having a hard time motivating myself through the rest of it because the entirety of the 5th season was spoiled to me
