It isn't the snow/sleet/etc that is so bad, it's the 6million + people on an 120 mile long skinny island all trying to get home in a snowstorm at the same time on the same 6 roads.

In Philippine English, the word "commute" refers to using public transportation regardless of destination. One can "commute" to the mall for instance. You will often hear "how do I commute to...?" See also . Bicycle commuting; Carpooling; Commuter bus;

Cyclists are the best.
I haven't been behind the wheel of a car for almost 10 years now, and I don't miss it one bit. Granted, the city I currently live in is not exactly designed with the cyclist in mind (and the local motorists sure as hell haven't figured out how to share the fucking road), but with a combo of public transit and my trusted steed, there's really no need to own/drive a car here.
(The only exception to that is when I want/need to get away to the mountains...but that's what the boyfriend's car is for, right? :giggle: )

I HATE cyclists. We have many here and the majority of them think they should have the rights of both a car and a pedestrian.
I think that cyclists should have to take a test to be allowed to ride out on the street with cars. (Maybe not all places, but definitely here and in other major cities) I don't think some people realize how dangerous it is.
We are getting some new cycle highways though, so maybe I will revisit cycling in 2016.

Re: Random~
Well they kinda do. The law suggests that they ride on the road, especially if there are no bike lanes or shoulders. But also, cops don't pull them over for running stop signs or red lights. So yes cyclists take advantage of this (I do too, but with safety in mind), but cities aren't currently set up for cyclists to get where they need to, so for now, that is the only option.fingersplints wrote:We have many here and the majority of them think they should have the rights of both a car and a pedestrian.
But the more bikers there are, the less congestion from automobiles there will be, theoretically.

Actually they don't. Laws here don't merely suggest they ride on the road, its required. And I have no problem with that if they follow the rules of the road. But I am almost hit weekly by a cyclist running a red light. And then the same cyclists ride up on the pavement and almost hit me there too.Metalmarsh89 wrote:Well they kinda do. We have already had two cyclists fatalities this year in London. I don't think I am wrong when I say that they should be more careful

Honestly, no one hates bad asshole cyclists more than good/safe cyclists. Trying to make your neighbourhood/city/planet a safer place for cyclists (because, while I absolutely do not deny that cyclists can and do cause accidents with pedestrians, other vehicles, and each other, it is much more common for cyclists to be injured and/or killed by careless drivers, at least where I live) is made exponentially harder by the minority of cyclists who suck at cycling and do shitty things like ride on the sidewalk, or disobey traffic laws, or do stupid unpredictable and unsafe things on the roads.
So I share your hatred for bad cyclists, llama and splintsy. But I still love my bike.
