Ditto. Voting Made, since MM and Dom are getting no votes today apparently, also to see if the locking meant anything.birdwithteeth11 wrote:Yeah. I'm curious as to why the thread was locked so long. Especially given how close we are to the poll deadline.

Guys. Hold up. This thread was unofficially unlocked. I think we need to wait for Mongoose's OK before proceeding.

Day 5: Death by Choreography
The ghost of Vomps said: "Busby Berkeley was a Hollywood movie director and musical choreographer. Berkeley devised elaborate musical production numbers that often involved complex geometric patterns. Berkeley's works used large numbers of showgirls and props as fantasy elements in kaleidoscopic on-screen performances."
If you have a baby or small child, I probably have sang this song to him/her [1].
"Which of his is your favorite?" asked Made.
"I like Gold Diggers of 1933," said Long Con.
"I prefer the classicism of 42nd Street," opined Dom.
"Who could forget Carmen Miranda in The Gang's All Here?" asked Roxy.
"I should get a hat like that," said Llama.
"Let's make kaleidoscopic patterns with our bodies!" said BirdWithTeeth11.
"HUMAN PYRAMID?!" exclaimed Metalmarsh.
The group formed a human carousel of people, with Made at the top. Someone pushed him off, and he toppled to the cold, hard ground.
Made has died. He was David Lean.
It is now Night 5. You have 30 hours[2] to send in your night actions and vote in the night poll.
[1] Isn't Ginger Rogers transcendentally beautiful?
[2] to allow us to get back on a regular schedule.

Yes, but it's hardly any relief in fighting with "nothing has changed" arguments. You now say you see no better arguments from others on lynching others, but I'd argue you're hardly putting in the same effort as the others. But that's about it, in terms of my discontent. You are free, of course, to suspect me until the bitter end, but I replied to your suspicions when you first had then, so I'm not revisiting that.birdwithteeth11 wrote:You are more than welcome to. *sigh* Did no one else PM the host to check first? I saw the locked thread and PM'd her right away. I also PM'd her when I saw mods posting still. Read the roles guys, it's helpful. Maybe next time the host should post in the thread that it's locked. I don't have a lot of time right now but I will go back and say somethings I wanted to say when the thread was locked.
RIP Made. I am certain the baddies locked the thread when three civvies were tied at one vote each, giving them a free lynch. I would have probably voted Made if I could have just because the other two I am certain are civvie and I had no idea if he was or not.

Yeah I agree BR, maybe a host post to confirm the thread lock would have helped our mods out here. Like half the players in this game have mod powers lol.

That was my thinking as well. Although I wouldn't necessarily say that the three who were tied were civvie, simply that they are not Hacks. Re: [Night 5]: Film Directors.
Soooooo....I have what I am assuming is going to be a very unpopular theory. I should probably wait until day to post it, but I'm impatient and am going to do it now.
I think that whoever is Uwe Boll must have mod powers. Since the most useful function of the thread lock ability is, as BR points out, to lock the civs into lynching a goodie, it's imperative that whoever has that ability be able to use it immediately and not have to wait for host confirmation. Otherwise, the situation that the baddies would be trying to preserve by locking the thread could evaporate or change by the time the host responds to their PM, rendering the ability pretty useless. Therefore, I'm pretty sure that they would need to be able to enact the lock themselves whenever they wanted to, which is a power only available to mods afaik. If it's a power that can be granted to non-mods on a limited basis, then my theory is obviously not relevant, but yeah. That's what I'm thinking atm.

It's possible Canuck, but idk. I've never heard of a role that could carry out its own actions without the host being a middleman. And it also assumes that Mongoose didn't randomize roles.
I have my own questions about how Uwe's power works. It says "May lock the thread when his work gets criticized." Does that mean there's specific conditions that must be met for the ability to activate, i.e. he garners suspicion? Or is it just flavor to justify the role's power, and he may use it whenever he wants?

I'm any case , what would that short lost look like? I feel like we'd have to exclude SVS, as she was one of the players with a vote. MP is dead, Llama and Daisy expressed confusion about the locked thread, suppose that could have been part of the ploy. Roxy has mod powers in the speed game but would they work here?

Re: [Night 5]: Film Directors.
Yes, I know people will be pissed because I suggested it, and it is perfectly understandable WHY they would be upset, but that is the logic I'm considering right now, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Might as well be open about it, then. I'm very willing to be told to stfu if we can reasonably assume that a regular user could temporarily be granted those mod-like priviliges. I don't know enough about how the board works to know if that is the case or not.
TH: Yeah, those are definitely some valid points against the theory which I've also been considering. I'm willing to entertain the possibility of a power that doesn't require host intervention (though it would possibly be unprecedented? I duno), but I definitely agree that it would be unlikely that Mongoose didn't randomize. And I agree that the way the role is worded could mean that certain suspicions must be present in the thread in order for the ability to be used. If that's the case, that also could certainly give us some direction at where to look....but it's hard to know if that is how the role works or not.

Re: [Night 5]: Film Directors.
Hmmmm. You're right that the short list based on my theory doesn't actually look promising, as I am reading civ on llama and don't think SD has been active enough to use that power on such short notice. And I suppose it is possible that Mongoose built in a fail safe that if she was not around to immediately activate the power, then the game-mod could do so, or perhaps she constructed some other mechanism to make it work.....
I'm glad we had this talk. I'm feeling much less convinced of my own theory by the minute.

BWT, I might join you in a Rico vote, because there is still a kernel of suspicion from Day 1 that lingers in my mind. Dom is my first choice, but I am sensitive to what SVS said about spreading the vote (it's an argument I've made many times) and I don't see much eagerness to pile onto Dom today. I'm going to reread Rico and TH next.

I'm not sure I understand this allusion to "discounting cases"? My post stated that I wasn't discounting TH's case on Made, despite the fact that I don't really trust TH. I'm not sure how that is related to MM (who I see no reason not to trust) and Made's cases on you? (This is not a snarky response, just a genuinely confused one)S~V~S wrote:So if you are not discounting cases, what do you think of Made & MMs cases on me? I did a read through of MM last night, and I really didn't see anything at all that read like a baddie to me there, so I don't think I'll be jumping on that train unless some more compelling thoughts/cases on him come forward....
But to answer your question directly, because maybe you were just asking for my opinion and I'm reading too much into your choice of phrasing:
Since after my reread of him I see no reason not to trust MM, I wouldn't discount his case on you (though I ultimately don't agree with it), and even tough at the time of this post I was on the fence with Made (though we now know he was civ), I still wouldn't discount his case on you (though I also don't agree with it). I do agree that your concern about spreading the vote and having many missing voters due to the poll time was a valid one, and proved prescient re: the latter point.

Sorry, Made, at the risk of sounding cliché, I really thought we had a baddie that time.
I PMed the host, and she told me that Uwe Boll can use the power at will, there doesn't seem to be a triggering mechanism.
We're being really crappy Civvies. I may have forgotten how to be an effective Civvie, after being Black Knight and Gollum and Miles Axelrod, and in the Monopoly game I was LMS very early on... I am just not a good Civvie anymore.

This, combined with your vote post for made, which was all "golly gee, TH! Good point! I sure am convinced!" has earned you my vote tomorrow.Long Con wrote:Sorry, Made, at the risk of sounding cliché, I really thought we had a baddie that time.![]()

There aren't any films I'm interested in seeing this year.
But I will watch the clip you posted Mongoose when I get home.

Re: [Night 5]: Film Directors.
Today was a strange deadline (9:30 AM for me), but I think we've learned that we can't simply wait until the last minute to vote and discuss, if Ube can lock the thread just like that. The good news is that he's only got one lock left.Canucklehead wrote:Hmmmm.
I read the power the same way TH did. Since one baddie team has a protect and one has a roleblock, I didn't think that the thread-locking would be that powerful to keep things balanced.
Linki: I see what you did there Rob. And that explains a lot.

Event: Fresh Air Interview with Terry Gross.

Fresh Air is a great interview radio magazine on NPR. She interviews authors, artists, directors, activists. She is known for asking super interesting and thought-provoking questions.
Below is her interview Monday with Michael Keaton. Feel free to take a listen to it or read the transcript to get her style.
http://www.npr.org/2015/02/09/384840668 ... uperheroes
For the event/contest, pick any actor, director or screenwriter. Using Terry's level of interviewing acumen, write up 5+ thought-provoking (they can be funny) questions and post them in the thread.
Winners will be chosen and prizes will be given.
You won't want to miss this. You have until Friday at noon EST.

I made a mistake. I do think SVS is civ but I am not certain who Rico could be. I thought the third vote was on someone else when I saw the poll. These polls can be confusing.Metalmarsh89 wrote:So you think Rico and SVS are civ, amiright?Black Rock wrote:*sigh* Did no one else PM the host to check first? I saw the locked thread and PM'd her right away. I also PM'd her when I saw mods posting still. Read the roles guys, it's helpful. Maybe next time the host should post in the thread that it's locked. I don't have a lot of time right now but I will go back and say somethings I wanted to say when the thread was locked.
RIP Made. I am certain the baddies locked the thread when three civvies were tied at one vote each, giving them a free lynch. I would have probably voted Made if I could have just because the other two I am certain are civvie and I had no idea if he was or not.
