Day 10: Sands of Fire

Never before had the party been so sure of their conviction that MovingPictures07 would die, even though the maniacally laughing foe guaranteed that he would not, not on that day.

“Fools,” he snarled. “All of you are fools!”

The Sands of Fire was a place riddled with scorching geysers of flame. MovingPictures07 made his way toward one.

“If you want me to show you my power, all you must do is push me in!”

There was no scarcity of volunteers. MovingPictures07’s body descended out of sight into the heat. A long silence followed.

“We are rid of him at last,” someone exhaled.

And as soon as these words of comfort were spoken, the flame-ridden body of MovingPictures07 ascended out of the geyser in a blazing spire. He laughed and hurled insults at his attackers.

“I have traveled with fools!” he cried. “You cannot know the extent of my wrath!”

Then a sinister voice traveled over the hot desert.

“Some disturbing magic was protecting that one,” an observer called. “I could sense it.”

The party turned and saw a towering pyramid no one had noticed before. On a balcony protruding from it, they saw the one who had spoken- a woman in strange attire.

It is now Night 10. You have 24 hours to send in your PMs.

Night 10: The House of Shokoti

“Come, you who are confused! Come to the House of Shokoti and be my guests this night!”

As though ushered by sorcery, the party obeyed, and soon found themselves in a dark, tomblike place. The witch who had commended them thence appeared in a flash of shadow. Her horned headdress outlined her face. She laughed at her company.

“I detect a great deal of confusion and uncertainty among you,” Shokoti said with what could only be interpreted as a tone of mild satisfaction. “Come then. It has been a long time since I have had visitors.”

She led the company through a series of convoluted corridors, and eventually came into a musty meeting hall. On a white pedestal sat something cloaked in a black cloth. When Shokoti tugged at the cloth, everyone saw a pyramidal glass object.

“Behold, the Prism of the Stars!”

“What does it do?” someone asked.

“The Prism, aligned with the stars, provides insight to its viewer. I have spent ages learning to interpret its displays.”

Shokoti glowered at the prism, spoke an incantation, and the object illuminated.

“The stars have cast their light upon this world for ages immemorial. They have seen secrets that have been known and are now forgotten. In their arrangements as the ten great constellations of our galaxy, the stars seek to guide us.”

The prism glowed, and Shokoti smiled.

“Tell me, strangers- under what astrological sign were you born?”

I know many people would like to throttle me. Let me say this:

I don't fudge anything. I have set this game up from the beginning and have changed nothing with respect to the mechanics as yet (I may tweak one minor thing based on something I have repeatedly observed). You all provide me the data. I process it, go over it three or four times to assure myself that I am not in error, and I write the posts based on that data.

That said, I made this observation (which anyone can deduce from the first page):

Of the 10 lynches, 5 have resulted in confirmed Mafia deaths. Only 2 have resulted in civilian deaths.
Of the 9 Mafia Night kill attempts, 6 have been successful.
Man-E-Faces killed once. That was a civilian NK.
DharmaHelper and thellama73 were resurrected (which is a -2 on the Mafia NK tally)

So then: Assuming the Night Kills were all civilian deaths, and assuming that Man-E-Faces did the civilians a favor, that means 6 Mafia dead, and 6 civilian dead. Even Stevens, yeah? And again, that's making the assumption that 100% of the Mafia Night kills were civilian.

Plan on being disappointed. Plan on being pleasantly surprised. Nobody wants a vanilla role anymore, so in a game of 30 with no vanilla roles, things will get- and remain- crazy.

The journey goes on, and is still perilous. You all are finally moving on to the Dark Hemisphere. Don't get scared now.

Epi, no one is saying that the lynch polls haven't resulted in mafia deaths. The complaint is that those deaths were not due to OUR votes - they were due to secret manipulation. That's what is frustrating. Honestly, that's too much lynch manipulation - even if the deaths WERE mafiosos. When the lynch votes have virtually no effect on the lynch outcome, that's going to be frustrating. And that's what you're seeing here.

The flower makes me think of beauty and fragility. I'm not really sure what to think of the scales. Are we talking fish scales or the kind of scales that weigh goods for trade? Maybe it has to do with commerce or endeavors, idk.
