World Tour Mafia II : Japan, a game for 19 players.
HOW THIS GAME WILL WORK
First - this is full role madness. Every player has a role, and a role without a specific power is rare and still has some benefit.
Second - The world you are playing was only chosen when roles were randomised.
The game will use my very much not-patented and potentially deeply flawed role-madness matrix which I created specifically to do this World Tour series, found in the second post. The matrix contains 46 possible worlds, and you are only playing in one of them. Which specific world is in play was determined by randomiser, and players won't be informed which world we are in. All you will have to go on is your own role power, and what you learn from things that happen during the game. Figuring out which world you are in might be essential to neutralising the threats and bringing home the win.
Third - there's going to be the opportunity for prizes through roleplay. As well as your mechanical role, you have been given a roleplay identity, a list of which is found in the third post. These identities were randomised and have no link to your mechanical role. Roleplay is optional, but prizes will be in play for roleplay. The rules for how I will determine and distribute prizes are set out in the roleplay section.
THE RULES
The golden rule - don't be a wanker. That means being respectful to fellow players, no angleshooting, and minimising appeal to emotion (it is, of course, OK to be honest about real life circumstances, but no one should be made to feel guilty killing someone, or feel forced to kill someone, for non-game reasons).
Mechanical rules
1) THE OTHER GOLDEN RULE - NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED ROLE CLAIMING, including (for example) through infodumping things that you have received through the use of your own role, or by speculating only on possible worlds in which your own role exists. BREACHING THIS RULE WILL BE MODKILLABLE, AS IT CAN GREATLY AFFECT THE BALANCE OF THE GAME. Please read the full post giving examples of what is or is not OK. Please ask the host before embarking on anything you think might be borderline.
1A) Seppuku - it is dishonourable to be too obvious about your role, even if you are not outright claiming. The mafia can, twice in the game, attempt to cause players to commit seppuku (leading to their death).,if they can convince the panel of the host + MoDs that a player has effectively claimed their role through their thread conduct. While outright claiming (express or implied) is modkillable, conduct that is not outright claiming but is 'rather obvious' meets this threshhold. If there are two mafia teams in the game, each team will hold one right to cause seppuku. Seppuku cannot be induced for a player who has successfully outed via mechanics (eg, they claimed their role to you in a btsc chat, or is the only viable living candidate to be a particular role), nor by others correctly identifying their role rather than the player's own thread content. If mafia unsuccessfully convince the panel, they lose that seppuku shot. BE CAUTIOUS - if others correctly identify your role, but then your own content implies they might be correct, that might be enough to trigger seppuku.
2) There is some information you can openly claim or reveal. You may openly speculate about worlds based on public information, including both role flips and other publicly visible mechanics (but not your own role). You may openly speculate about worlds based on effects you believe you have experienced that are not caused by your own role. You may claim/infodump a prize win, and claim any information that results from the use of your prize. If you are outed by the host as having a particular role (for example, through the use of a priest shot), you may claim/infodump information that is consistent with the role that the host has outed you to be.
3) BTSC (behind the scenes communications) may only occur where specifically enabled in line with the rules, and must occur only in a Discord channel provided by the host.
4) Mafia teams have a factional kill that is a targeted ability. The mafia must choose a specific member of their team to make the kill each night, and the kill is considered a role power of the player who uses it. Mafia teams also have factional BTSC.
5) Some worlds have one mafia team, and others have two. If we are in a two-mafia world, mafia teams will alternate kills each night, until one team is eliminated when the remaining team will then be able to kill every night. Mafia alignment will flip as 'mafia' and will not provide any indication of whether there is one or two mafia teams.
6) You cannot self-target, except where your role expressly allows it. You cannot target dead players, except where your role expressly allows it.
7) Only living players have role powers and use abilities, except as otherwise expressly stated in a role.
8) Targeting the same player on two consecutive nights is not permitted. This applies to any ability that uses the word TARGET (and derivatives eg 'targeted', 'targets') but not where other language is used.
9) All targeted abilities that say 'will' or 'must', including factional kill, are randomised if not used. Targeted abilities that say 'may' are not randomised if not used.
10) The mafia must have ended any path to victory for the town or another mafia team to win (which might require more than just a majority of players). The town must eliminate all mafia to win, and in some worlds must also eliminate specific independent roles as described in those roles. Independents need to satisfy their win condition before or at the same time as any other faction wins.
11) A player wins if their factional win condition is met, regardless of whether they are dead or alive, except where their win condition is expressly modified in their role.
12) Day phases will last 48 hours. Night phases will last 24 hours. Use of any private ability is required to be exercised no later than one hour before the end of the phase.
13) Votes are changeable and must be cast in both the thread and the poll to count, except as otherwise expressly stated in a role.
14) An ‘ability’ is any action you can take in the game only by using your role power or a prize.
15) All deaths will lead to a public role flip in the thread, unless otherwise expressly stated in a role.
If you consider there is any conflict between these mechanical rules and any ability you have, please clarify privately with the host.
