Jay: Have you ever tried running this in a larger game, say 30+?
I think the results would be even more telling in that setting.

Re: Death and Taxes: An Economics Mafia [DAY 2]
thanks y'all who took part in that. the data might not reveal itself as meaningful until later in the game, if it does at all (only getting 4 people is crummy). but for now i will compile a chart. a couple thoughts:
this exercise alone made me feel better about Bass. not only was he quick to pull the trigger on reads, but he even deliberately stayed around long enough to see it through when he had to go. despite me blurting town on BWT11, this made me feel worse about him. he said he might have to leave in the middle of it, but he left after only one name was dropped. and his one response was the exact kind of waffly thing this exercise is designed to pinpoint:
"neutral, or town if i can't do that"

Re: Death and Taxes: An Economics Mafia [DAY 2]
even if the sample was smaller than i'd ever like, i'm very glad Bass and TH were involved. i think they're both swing players that can heavily influence this game long-term. BWT11 too in his limited appearance.
MP and i might as well have been filler though.

Re: Death and Taxes: An Economics Mafia [DAY 2]
I think what got me about BWT wasn't that he had to leave, really, since that could have been RL and it's hard to judge. What really stuck me is how he had to stick by a neutral read of me and add the "town if i can't do that" clause, which is odd.

Re: Death and Taxes: An Economics Mafia [DAY 2]
Well, folks, I have to leave (for real), so I'll be back at some point in the Night to post my Rainbow List again, probably. It'll be interesting to reanalyze knowing that Elo is SK. I can't argue with the result at all, in fact it's amazing, but it's not near as helpful as mafia read in reevaluation. It also means that some of my case could have been likely incorrect, but as an SK, I suppose she was inevitably making up opinions on players unless she really was trying to still find mafia.

Re: Death and Taxes: An Economics Mafia [DAY 2]
my gut reaction is to stick with my Bass suspicion even after his participation in the gun-to-head exercise. It does change my view of him a little bit but it's not enough (yet) to shake my skepticism.
birdwithteeth's lack of participation shakes me a little bit, but again not enough to knock him down to a scum read. Maybe he could explain both his absence and his waffling on the one name he did do.

idk what to think about the vote, i dont like that mp did a 180 after voting so damn early but i feel slightly better about him rn but other than across the aether none of those votes say that mch. normally those last 3 votes would really bother me but there was never even another rivaling bandwagon so.. i think i'm gonna look closer at the people who didn't vote for elo

i should state that since i haven't done that very many times, i haven't really determined its efficacy. it's an experiment more than anything.

It looks good that he was one of only a few players to participate in the exercise, and he seems to habe done a good job, but I also see this sort of thing as something a scum player can easily do to earn townie points.sanmateo wrote:why/how?Sloonei wrote:my gut reaction is to stick with my Bass suspicion even after his participation in the gun-to-head exercise. i really don't feel as certain that jay is town as i usually do (i've never played him as scum for longer than 1 day) but he was a bit too reserved with his vote for someone who suspected elo consistently since before she was the main suspect.

Am I one of the super posters? Because I think I'm town. I've also got a strong town read on Jay, as I've said, and a slightly weaker town read on MP. Turnip Head, if he's also in this group, is mostly a null read until further notice. I still haven't seen enough discussion about him, and I need to ISO him. I'll get to that before the night ends. sanmateo is a town read.Bass_the_Clever wrote:Well can you answer the question? You don't have to if you don't want.

Re: Death and Taxes: An Economics Mafia [DAY 2]
i was suspicious of her, yes. and i spent much of Day 2 exploring that suspicion to gauge whether my feelings stood, particularly after she answered to my accusations. and i waited with my vote because that's simply the most logical thing to do in a game without vote changes. i frankly have no idea why you and others just dropped your votes so early and denied yourselves any chance to reconsider. i definitely wasn't certain about Elohcin. and even if i had somehow known she was bad, i'd have guessed mafia and not rogue.sanmateo wrote:i really don't feel as certain that jay is town as i usually do (i've never played him as scum for longer than 1 day) but he was a bit too reserved with his vote for someone who suspected elo consistently since before she was the main suspect.

towards the end of the phase people were using their votes in such a way that it made it impossible for anyone but Elohcin to be lynched. eventually the math made it a certainty, effectively meaning my vote became meaningless. the biggest reason i used it was to avoid punishment for missing a vote.
do you think i am the kind of player to use my vote before i feel i have done my homework? and before i have coordinated with other players?

i'm used to you dropping a vote wherever you feel is right, i think the fact that like half of rymafia just votes the same person you do most of the time you do doesnt really have to do with it. the reason i voted early was because i wouldnt have as much time to play over day 2 as i did on day 1 and i was fairly certain that she was anti-town (fyi i'm gonna go with that so i can say i was right all along). also, i thought maybe with a vote on her elo would respond to my case, which i think she never did so i was wrong there.
i think that the lack of a competing bandwagon makes this muddier, if that makes sense.

Re: Death and Taxes: An Economics Mafia [DAY 2]
It's probably good that I had to run off to dinner. Because I saw JJJ's initial post and got really super-frustrated. But now I've calmed down quite a bit and can explain.
1) As to why I ducked out so quickly, I had to leave to help finish getting dinner ready. We ate, conversed, and even threw in a game of Euchre after dinner. So I left because I decided family time was more important than a metagame in a mafia game. Shocking, I know, that I'd want to have a life outside of this. Clearly there is something wrong with me. :P
2) I was trying to finish my catching up as JJJ's game/exercise was starting. I was trying to get a post in, and kept getting linkitis over and over again. I was trying to make funny/silly comments about it, and thus wasn't fully paying attention to the rules of the exercise. I only looked back after the fact and realized that I couldn't post my feelings on someone as 'neutral'. Which is a good thing I worded it the way I did, because otherwise I would have replied with 'neutral'.
Hope that satisfies your curiosity!
