Re: [SIGN UPS] Sondheim vs. Lloyd Weber: Bullets Over Broadw
I made an interesting discovery this afternoon.
I was helping my parents move some things, and came across their vinyl collection (not really large enough to be called a "collection," but there we are). My dad's big into classic rock and country, so there's some Boston, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, and that one Coven album with the imp playing the violin. My mom was more into folk and the golden oldies, so among hers I find John Denver, The Beach Boys, and a Lesley Gore 45 (bet you can guess which one).
Curiously, however, there was one record my parents both denied owning. Yet there it was.
The album in question was recorded by a Mr. E. P. Nosisberg between the years 1959 and 1961. The liner notes indicated that these sessions involved lesser known talents (but talents all the same) such as bassist Virgil Stanford Thompkins I, and percussionist Wilford Allen Varney.
Mom and dad didn't mind at all when I asked if I could take the record home and listen to it. They don't listen to much music anymore and don't even have a turntable these days. Given the nature of the songs listed on the sleeve, I thought it would be of interest to those who signed up here (or are thinking of signing up) if I held the mic up to my speakers, punched record, and let us all find out what this dusty relic had to offer.
The opening number is a familiar Gershwin tune, performed many times by no less than Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. Let's have a listen.

Re: [SIGN UPS] Sondheim vs. Lloyd Weber: Bullets Over Broadw
I can see why they would deny owning it. I Googled Nosisberg and got nada. With "B" & "R" replaced with "I" & "P", it could be an anagram for Epignosis. That was interesting.

Well, I think Sloonei will be playing, but he did say "probably" in his post, so it's a little unclear if he's fully committed yet. Either way, he needs to play.
And yes, DDL needs to play.

The votes are totally changeable, and if even if they weren't, the thread starter can edit the poll to make them changeable.

Re: [SIGN UPS] Sondheim vs. Lloyd Weber: Bullets Over Broadw
Naruto Forums (NF). I met DDL and a few other folks over there. This requires some backstory.Gumshoe wrote:

I didn't even know they (or a bunch of other sites) played mafia. Like some others here, I fell in love with mafia at Lostpedia and played on the LP-based sites The Piano, Revolutionmafia, and Hedville. Of course, there was the SpoilerTV route as well, but I never played there, only heard other folks (such as Roxy) talk about it. I introduced it to a bunch of friends I had made at ProgArchives (my main forum hub from '08-'11) and they loved it, so some on The Syndicate come from that background. About a year ago, I had played once or twice on RateYourMusic, only because someone (Keterman) I knew originally from ProgArchives had found out that they played mafia there, so I checked it out. My life was way too busy though and my presence over there quickly faded, to concentrate solely on this site. That was pretty much the extent of my mafia universe.
Ever since we came in contact with Thingyman and found out about the Mafia Championships, it was like an entire previously unknown mafia universe revealed itself to many here, myself included.
I scanned the preliminary list of participating sites and saw Naruto Forums. I love Naruto and never checked that site out, so I made it one of my first sites to scope out for mafia. I met DDL there, played a game, and we talked more as the Championships Game 3 played out as well, since our rep (Turnip Head) was in it as well as NF's rep (Soneji/WolfPrinceKiba).
I was also reminded of RYM and really longed to head back over there again, so I did. I've been playing a few games there (including one I'm in at the moment) recently and that's where some newer folks came from as well, such as JJJ, Sloonei, etc., since I got four of them to come over here and play the recently completed Economics game.

Re: [SIGN UPS] Sondheim vs. Lloyd Weber: Bullets Over Broadw
And it seems Sloonei has voted yes! So we now officially need 5 more, since sig is the only one who committed to playing but hasn't yet voted.
I'm really excited about this game! We have a fantastic host (Dom) and somehow RL has always gotten in the way of me playing a Dom-hosted game before, despite being in similar mafia circles as him for the past 5 years now, so I'm stoked on that fact alone. We also have a fantastic player lineup, with some really great players from The Syndicate and some from other communities (1 from RYM, the 2 from the INTJ game who are still relatively new here, and a few from JTM/GTF, right? and then there's Gumshoe as well). I'm especially excited to play with all of the folks I haven't played with yet!

Musicals aren't really my thing.
But when the host of a party specifically reaches out to you, it's bad form to say no.
