It baffles me that this is called a 'mountainous' setup when it is the most flat a setup could be. It should be called the pancake setup.

I'm pretty sure it's my favorite setup and I have never actually played in one.

Well, there was one RYM game where everyone was vanilla, but it also had no vote changes. That's an enormous mafia advantage and my mafia team cruised.

I don't think their 4:1 ratio is ideal for all-vanilla though. I have looked into it a lot with the intent of hosting one eventually, and that ratio, friendly as it may look in most setups, is still mafia-slanted in a mountainous setup. I saw a statistic from mafiascum indicating that 11 vs. 2 mountainous was still won by town less than 40% of the time.

The effort and competitive spirit of the games might equalize them a bit.

Yeah, 12:3 will be tough for the town; I'd guesstimate like 40/60 or worse odds. Thankfully, towns have shown that they can be pretty damn good at this tournament, so it's hard to say.

I think 12:3 is fine. That means a fifth of the player pool is mafia. That's not that bad. That gives the civilians four lynches to spare.

Scum won all but 2 games last year, but one of those two was the finale. I think the setups were 13 vs 4 with 2 town power roles. I think lack of familiarity was largely responsible for that, and that will always be a factor in favor of the bad guys in this tournament. But the competitiveness of the games probably helps town.

Just went back to check the ratios from last season. I was right, 13 vs 4. But I also realized that my game was Mad Men flavored, and I just finished the Mad Men series finale about 10 minutes ago. A thing like that.

now i'm reading that game and getting all my mafia juices flowing again.
I hadn't been scum in about a year before that tournament, then I drew two scum cards in a row. I haven't been scum in a year since that tournament.

Yeah, and unless I'm crazy and remembering incorrectly, the year before that (our first year, Season 2, with Turnip Head) the ratios were more even and town may have won more than mafia. Not sure if the change in setup from year to year had anything to do with it.

They are easier to read than Vompatti.

Quick Mafia Championship Update

For those who didn't follow the Mafia Championship to the end, Dels from GameFAQs ended up winning the fourth season. He will be receiving a winner's certificate signed by Dmitry Davidoff, the creator of Mafia.

Hydra Event 2017 - Interested?

As some of you may recall, last year 220 players from dozens of different communities participated in the first ever cross-community Hydra Event. It was a big success and people have been wanting another one, so... It's finally here!

If you don't know what "hydra" means, it's when two people share the same account (two heads). So the concept is that each participating community can send multiple hydras if they want, each consisting of two players, which tends to make the game more fun in addition to making it easier to be active since two players are playing on the same account.

Sign-ups will be open for next couple of weeks.

If you'd like to play, just find a partner and lemme know either here or in the thread below.
