Re: Mountain Mafia [DAY 0]
I am prone to hyperbole. But that's not far off from the truth. Just about anything can get my stamp of approval as a reason to vote on Day 1, because Day 1 is all about generating content for me. I find votes to be the most effective tool for doing this. Thus, manufacturing a reason to vote for a player is critical at this juncture of the game.Epignosis wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2017 12:31 amThrowing your vote around isn't the same thing as accepting "any reason on Day 1."
Your words.
You're not going to vote for bob or mesk on Day 1, your words. Epignosis is a player who enjoys playing the opposition, I think, or at least he likes to make people uneasy in the thread. But to start this game he is advocating for two players instead. A hypotehtical player might see this and decide to create a conversation around it by placing a vote on him. I would approve of this action.

He's buddying them, and then intimidating you out of an adversarial position. He's setting up a long game. That's not what Civ Epignosis cares to do.

I could see all of this being applicable to Epi in his current form. But he is as crafty a townie as he is scum, so I'm not going to leap to any quick decisions on him.

DAY 1
Greetings travelers. Welcome to my rocky abode. Don't mind the snow, I find it rather pleasant.
In case you need some guidance getting around these parts, here's a little training video to catch you up on the latest know-how.
Spoiler: show
Feeling educated? Great! So would I if this was 1939. Anyway, point is, mountains are meant to be big, not puny. Got it? Day 0 has lasted long enough. Now go lynch the small mountains.
Day 1 has begun. You have 24 hours to lynch someone.

Put a vote on Spacedaisy. Do we believe her guilt to be coming from a place of empathy for game hosts everywhere, or from her role card?

Re: Mountain Mafia [DAY 0]
The whole point of poking is to make someone feel uncomfortable and cause them to react, right?
Well... What kind of reaction can you get by saying you trust someone? What would qualify as a baddie reaction to that.
Looking back I see that Jack asked for Spirityo's reads in the same post so that's probably what he meant by poking actually

Re: Mountain Mafia [DAY 0]
Maybe Jack (or any player) wants to see how another player responds to the appearance of trust. Maybe sprityo accepts it unconditionally, maybe he rejects it and throws it back in Jack's face, maybe he is skeptical but open to it, etc. I don't know why Jack has done the things he's done, but I don't think it's a terrible play to announce trust early on. But like I've said already, I'm pretty open to any strategy that encourages activity on Day 1.Kylemii wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2017 2:12 amThe whole point of poking is to make someone feel uncomfortable and cause them to react, right?

The former, I guess. Mostly I agree with the sentiments you've expressed about why Quin's reasoning is fine for day 1, and probably enough to join Quin and LC in an epi vote if I don't get anything better for a day 1 reason

Idk. The only scumtell I'm aware of is that I get overly excited when I think I'm about to win as a baddie.

Also, we have a pretty standard mafia relationship. Crazy stuff tends to happen in games I play with Sprityo. At least two of them anyway.

I think the Spacedaisy guilt line of questioning is weak. I hate "I'm not that bad at being bad" defenses but if you can rephrase to "most players are not that bad at being bad," it is an acceptable counterattack.

Re: Mountain Mafia [DAY 0]
This again, about what a "civilian Epignosis" cares to do. You really should write a book about me, since you're such an expert.
Saying I won't vote someone Day 1 for catching my Elton John reference is not "setting up a long game."
Finding a reason to believe Mesk is civilian and in the next hour reevaluating that reason is, again, not "setting up a long game."
Intimidating Sloonei (if that's what you want to call it, since I don't believe Sloonei can be intimidated in Mafia, and even if he could, what would I have to gain by intimidating him if I could just kill him Night 1?) is not "setting up a long game."
You are implying that "setting up a long game" is something I, as mafia, would do on Day 1. That is mistaken. The fact is I don't bother with long term planning Day 1 when I am bad. It's antithetical to success in most cases, because to be good at being bad, one must be flexible and able to dance. And I am a fine dancer.

Re: Mountain Mafia [DAY 1]
If Long Con is a civilian, then is most likely means he is genuine in his suspicion of me.
If his suspicion is genuine, then his accusation that I am being deliberate and calculating in my dealings thus far should be one that he can logically explain.
In other words, if I know what I'm doing (i.e., being deliberate in "setting up a long game"), and Long Con is calling me out on that, then he should be able to explain how my actions in the thread so far will benefit my team and me down the road. What is the long game and how am I expecting it to play out?
If he can't answer that, then his suspicion isn't genuine, and he's trying to get a quick and easy Day 1 lynch out of the way.

I don't. I kind of enjoy being scum. And I'm trying to overtake Epi still for top FEB, though lately I have suffered a setback because I haven't been rolling scum. And this game won't offer me the opportunity either. I'm not scum. I'm a big mountain.Jackofhearts2005 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2017 10:07 amI think the Spacedaisy guilt line of questioning is weak. Also I'm sorry you hate that defense, but it was really less of a defense and more annoyance that Sloonei could possibly think I'd be that bad at playing scum.
