The idea is that, if you assume, as Jay did, that there's two power roles for the civilians, and one for the mafia, then you are torn between lynching your civilian power role or the mafia power role. I was hoping it came to that, but it didn't.

She is a liar. She's gotten in trouble for that. Many times.
So when I explained how heists work, she of course HAD to lie about something.
She even explained it to me this way: "I have to lie so the superheroes don't die."
You got it, gal. You got it.
So she lied and claimed cop and picked speedchuck and that's my girl.
A liar at heart.
I have no idea where she gets it.

yeah, exactly. I don't think it would work in a side-mission, but it works perfectly in a heist. The way the game phased out didn't give him time to check sloonei, but if he had, and with an old tinfoil, not sure what would have happened.Epignosis wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2018 11:11 pmThe idea is that, if you assume, as Jay did, that there's two power roles for the civilians, and one for the mafia, then you are torn between lynching your civilian power role or the mafia power role. By the way, DrWilgy was active in BTSC.
However, he didn't ID himself. He went in as One-Shot Janitor and had RadicalFuzz talking about how great a friend DrWilgy is.

Note: the first Vocaroo game here covered about 400 active posts and elapsed 5.5 hours recording time. If the averages hold, that would project to 21.5 hours recording time in this game.

Good game guys, but my gosh, be short. I spent a good portion of the game listening to only the first 10-20 seconds of your posts, because I found that I wasn't missing much in the latter half. I may have messed up a bit at times, but most of my posts were dang short. Argh.

It was a cool concept, and I'd be down for another voice game, but I'd rather run it as a burglary. Over discord chat.
Wouldn't count as an official site game at that point, though.

Re: Vocaroo Too! Mafia [Endgame]
This game did end up being very "feast or famine" participation-wise. It seems like it was basically impossible to view all the content of the game unless you yourself we're in the top 3 or 4 posters.
I complained about Dunia and Jay earlier with their close to 2 hours of content each per day phase, but now.... I really do think creating an atmosphere where the mafia members couldn't catch up was at least somewhat instrumental in this victory.

It's one of the easiest ways to filter out mafia members in any game. Vocaroo made it even more pronounced.
The faster the pace, the more difficult the game for the bad guys. It's just the way the game works.

Just because it worked here doesn't mean it's good practice.
Some of you talked just to talk or say things other people said many times. As a host, I wanted to pull my hair out.
You run the risk of alienating civilians too.
Don't act like posting a lot makes you super civilians. That wasn't why you won here.

Re: Vocaroo Too! Mafia [Endgame]
I was on the other side too when the same thing wasted my team in Mountain Mafia. We didn't just lose that game because of balance problems. The civilians washed us out by playing as hard as they could. My entire team, including my postaholic ass, failed to find a place in the top ten of post count. We were exposed.
Spamming the thread just to assure the post count rockets isn't the method. The posts still have to have some kind of function. Even repetitive posts have an important function, and in this case it was teamwork.
I can agree that it might annoy civilians who can't keep the pace. It infuriates mafia who can't keep the pace.

1. POE works
And 2. "Catching up" is overrated. I missed somewhere around 10 pages of action in the middle of this game. I made no effort to get caught up on it, and instead just started developing fresh reads based on what was happening in the present moment, and those reads turned out to be absolutely spot on. Compare that to my reads from before, when my proposed scum team consisted of Speedchuck, Marmot, and Elohcin.
I'm gonna plant my flag in this latter point til the day I die because I'm still salty about the nasty attitude I received from players in the Champs game two years ago when I tried to employ the method. "How can you play the game if you don't read the thread, Sloonei!?"

Re: Vocaroo Too! Mafia [Endgame]
Agreed. Trying to play catch up in a game that is moving fast is a self-defeating waste of time. While one spends the time reading everything, the thread continues to inflate and the completion of the task becomes more implausible. Frankly, even if someone manages to read everything after missing a lot, is that player really going to absorb and process that material effectively or is it just going to drizzle out of their minds as quickly as it enters? I suspect the latter is truer.Sloonei wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 1:12 am And 2. "Catching up" is overrated. I missed somewhere around 10 pages of action in the middle of this game. If you fall way behind, you're better off jumping in as the action continues and working with the discussions at hand. If you missed some critical thing, someone will surely tell you about it.

Re: Vocaroo Too! Mafia [Endgame]
There are exceptions to every rule. If you judge mafia teams in general by your own achievements, I think you're making a mistake. Also, I consider you to be a very skilled bad guy. I have never seen you detonate a post count list by tripling or quadrupling second place.

Re: Vocaroo Too! Mafia [Endgame]
Exactly. Like I tried to argue in that Champs game at the time, if I spend all of my available time trying to catch up on everything that has already happened, then I'm only going to have time for that, and when I leave and return again there will be 20 new pages for me to repeat the process on. I will have made no progress toward understanding the game or making my presence felt in it. Drowning in ketch up is the easiest way to become a non-factor in games.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 1:24 amAgreed.
If you fall way behind, you're better off jumping in as the action continues and working with the discussions at hand. If you missed some critical thing, someone will surely tell you about it.

All I mean is that, if I were a civilian in this game, I would have said to hell with it.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 1:29 amThere are exceptions to every rule. Too much empty space and redundant arguments. Too much back and forth.
I only mean that I could see a civilian shutting down and and not being productive simply from lack of time.
Civilians flooding the thread didn't win this game is all I mean.
