The one thing I need explained in the rules is what BTSC means.
Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Sign Ups]
BTSC is "Behind the Scenes Communication."
It is simply the privilege of being able to talk about the game with others outside of the thread.
By default, it's the advantage the mafia have over the civilians (mafia can plot secretly, while civilians must talk in the thread only).

just like private chat for scum team. on this website, like later RYM, private chat isn't allowed between players unless specifically allowed by the mod of the game in a PM to you, and they'll send you a link to a chatroom with the other player(s) you're allowed to communicate with.gwilikers6 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 12:44 pm The one thing I need explained in the rules is what BTSC means.

Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Sign Ups]
also to gwilikers6 and ColinIsCool and maybe rundontwalk if he forgot: the one thing they do here differently is day votes. there will be a poll option in the thread, much like the one right now, with all living players names in, and you just choose who you want to lynch (and can unvote and switch your vote as many times as you want before end of day deadline) instead of doing an in-the-thread vote tally constantly. it helps if you indicate in the thread when you vote, and most people do that, but not everyone does it all the time or immediately after voting so exact timestamps on when votes were cast is not possible. that's maybe the only significant difference between RYM and this place, more convenient than the manual tally, and something that I got used to (but harder to do vote pattern analysis).

To be honest it's aided by 3 burglaries, which are the shortest game type here.

Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Sign Ups]
it's something in the settings of the Fire Emblem game, "if you lose one of your characters in battle, they’re gone for good. You can also make it so that’s not the case, and they return in the next chapter."
I also wondered since I'm not familiar with the game and looked it up

also hai!!!!

I played in a game like this long ago, I was the sole recruiter role. I got lynched day one before I even had the chance to recruit anyone, ending the game almost immediately.

Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Sign Ups]
I still have other programs to apply to, but the two applications I've got done this week are for my top choices, and their deadlines are the most immediate. Plus I've now got the blueprint of all future applications laid out for me to draw from, so there should be significantly less work involved. It feels good and I'm borderline confident in my chances of acceptance. It's a tremendously relief to be done with this stage of the process, at least. Thanks for the encouragement, dudes.

Really the whole process is draining, but you have the right attitude. It took me significantly longer than I thought it should have when I was readying those myself a few years back, as well as assistant professor job applications over the holidays a couple weeks ago. Doesn't help that universities all want pretty much the same general information but in as many different and confusing ways as possible.

I also just want to emphasize that I am incredibly happy to see all of these RYMers and HCRealms folks and just the general excitement surrounding this game and others at the moment. You all are awesome.
I would love to play myself, but... yeah, really shouldn't, unfortunately. I hope you all have fun with this though; I'm sure you will because the setup sounds really cool.

Re: Fire Emblem Draft Mafia [Sign Ups]
Yeah. Securing letters of recommendation was an unbelievable headache at first. It's a good thing I started that process months in advance, or I'd probably be dead from stress right now. Then writing the statements of intent proved to be one of the most challenging (but fulfilling) experiences of my life. I figured I could be done with them in a couple of days each, but no. The process of writing a draft only took about an hour each time, but I wrote about 15 drafts for both applications before I finally felt satisfied with what I had to say. That's been my primary headache this week. There was also a brief technical scare when I couldn't log into my account on the school's website two days ago.MovingPictures07 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2018 9:56 pmSloonei wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2018 9:52 pm I still have other programs to apply to, but the two applications I've got done this week are for my top choices, and their deadlines are the most immediate. Man, I feel you. I proposed my dissertation on Nov. 3 and submitted my applications right after X-mas, so the whole application process this time around took me almost two months, and I consider myself lucky to have wrapped all of that up so "quickly".
