The champions boarded the train at Ridgecrest. It was the height of opulence, fit out with only the best of everything; Ossetran Caviar, Dom Perignon, other Dom, perfectly tailored tuxedos, the McGoogle search engine, pristine peacocks, velvet cushions...
Hang on a minute, the McGoogle search engine? Spacedaisy immediately realised something was wrong. Whispers passed through the carriage like wildfire. Scotty and Kylemii were in one corner, talking worriedly. LoRab and Long Con were hunched over a notebook, working out what it all meant. MacDougall had been working on his start-up, McGoogle, for some time. Far from being state-of-the-art, it was an abject failure. An incongruent piece in what was otherwise a wealthy scene. However, everyone knew that Mac himself believed it was the solution to all of the Syndicate's security woes, and issue that had plagued them since the Russian hacking attack of early 2017. Perhaps, one day, it might have been...
"I remember those hackers" said Quin. "They deprived the world of one of my greatest mafia performances of all time."
Investigating further, S~V~S declared what everyone suspected. "MacDougall is on this train when he isn't even a champion, and it's no accident. He's the engineer, and he's been murdered. As best I can tell, the train cannot be stopped!"
"Why can't it be stopped?" asked DrWilgy, pulling on every lever he could find "this shouldn't be that hard." He then spotted the bright orange lever right in the middle, at eyesight level, that said "BRAKE" in big black letters. "What about this one?", Wilgy asked. Nutella pulled it, but it snapped off in her hands.
"It's no use at all" said Epignosis.
"This train runs on your haiku
it's the entry fee."
Nijuukyugou got out the operating manual. Sure enough, there it was. The levers operated automatically, by power of haiku. Perhaps MacDougall was a genius engineer after all, but his talent had been cut short, and no-one could understand exactly how it worked, or what they could do to fix the situation.
"Please train, apply brakes
I'm shit at writing haiku
Refridgerator" said insertnamehere
"The Marmot is here
Perhaps a little self-vote
Will solve all our woes" cried Marmot
"How unfortunate
We are all about to die
Jay could have fixed this" wailed Sloonei
"Why won't you slow down
Don't you know how hard it is
counting seventeen?" beseeched Dragon D Luffy
None of it worked. Several of the champions turned pale. Not everyone had looked at their ticket before boarding the train, and some of them failed to provide the correct fee for joining the trip. Now their failures were possibly going to cost all 23 passengers on board their lives.
The train picked up speed as it reached Fiji. Sig scrambled around looking for one of those cards that explains the correct brace position on a train, but for some reason none existed. Sprityo had the vague feeling that he remembered something about a murder on a train before. Everyone got in to the best position they could for impact... but the impact never came.
Everyone looked around. All that was left was half a carriage... and half of them. They looked around and realised that they were on a beach, on an island. Exactly what they were doing here, they couldn't be sure. Suddenly, there was a flash, and a vision opened up before them.
Day six has ended. Colonialbob has been lynched. He was:
13: Charlie Pace. No matter what you do, you're going to die, brotha! You will consume the lynch on day 6, but you are immune from any form of death until that point.
The vision ended as abruptly as it had begun. But just one thing was on everyone's mind - accountability for those who did not haiku!
Day One has begun. You have 48 hours to lynch somebody. All players who paid the correct entry fee will be immune.
The players have been randomly split into two tribes. Your tribe is the Cerberus tribe. The players currently alive here are:
Boomslang
colonialbob
dom
Dragon D. Luffy
insertnamehere
LoRab
Nijuukyugou
Quin
sig
Speedchuck
S~V~S
When using targeted abilities, you may only target people on your tribe.
The following two roles were present in this tribe at game start:
39: Tina Wesson (Survivor). Each night, you may choose one player to inject with an innoculation to a particular virus. Any player who is given the innoculation will be unable to catch the virus and will be cured if they already have it. You may not target the same player twice.
42: The button (Chicka Chicka 1, 2, 3). The button does something - do you want to press it? You may press the button at any time.
Please remember that there is NO INFODUMPING of any kind allowed.
I was the original Button Pusher in CC-123. It redistributed all the roles in the game. Pushing the button is a good idea any time, anywhere. Push it real good.
Colonialbob's foretold role reveal suggests some significant event will occur on Day 6, perhaps. Something to be mindful of.
I did not play in Survivor mafia and do not know what the tribe mechanics were like for that game. Can someone fill us in on those details? Perhaps Scotty wants to say hi and talk about this.
One thing that I'm worried about is the whole Haiku protection thing. Unfortunately, we don't know who did or did not send in a haiku, and people have an incentive to lie about doing so in order to protect themselves.
This could potentially lead to an even more lackadaisical and pointless Day 1 than usual, where not only does everyone not know who the hell is scum, but we also don't even know who we can actually lynch.

I don't care about who we may or may not be able to lynch. Today should be pursued just the same as any other Day 1. This is not something I will worry about today.
We also each have two lives anyway.

though the two roles thing will probably extend things anyways so maybe that's realistic?
Another possibility that crossed my mind is that, as players die, they will either change trbes or be sent to the "main" game thread.
But this is why I askes about tribal mechanics in Survivor Mafia. I didn't play in the game and don't feel like looking it up, so I'm hoping someone who was there can explain it to me. Scotty was the game's host, I believe.
are there any other game setups that seem to be referenced here? it seems like at the very least we have Chicka Chicka with The Button and reviving into different roles and apparently survivor with the tribes?

The idea for the GOC’s is that literally every game from last year is welded together into a giant monstrosity. Expect a whole lotta game references.

that's beautiful.
was there any other weird shit that happened this year that I should be aware of? I missed out on about 9 months of it

I take credit for the initial idea.
Remember how I incorporated the Red Room into the first GoC, INH? Good times. Feels like ages ago.

Media still might be my favorite role I've ever had in a game.

Yo.
Yeah, I mean for starters, it’s pretty straightforward. Survivor also shared a similar mechanic with Lost Again 3 (I believe that was 2017) which had peeps on a beach and in the hatch. The hatch exploded after a few days if I recall. And didn’t Golden also host that? Might be something similar.
@Sloonei you mentioned that you were a button that created chaos and changed around roles, but I’m not so sure the same thing would be applied here. It might have some other function. It might even merge tribes. Who really knows. But I like to poke burning logs with my finger like an idiot so I’m not one to make a decision there.

Yahoo! Hello game! It’s been a year.
First thing’s first, how do I vote with this new voting tag system that I just read about in the rules?
[ vote ]vote[/ vote ] [VOTE:
vote] aubergine
there's also a "vote" button up in the thing
Oh sweet! That’s a cool addition- thanks man! Nice to meet you as well!
Also I just looked it up and I’m thinking of Lost Season 2 played in 2016, so ignore about the hatch blowing up bit.
The tribes thing should be straight forward in any case- it should merge when a certain amount of people are eliminated in each.
The difference between this and my game is the addition of a mafia team. Mine was just a LMS type of deal. If I were Golden, I would split mafia evenly between tribes. Or as evenly as I could. In a 23 person game, I don’t know what would be a comparable ratio. Also considering there might be a few indies in the mix, there’s probably at least 2 baddies in each tribe.

Yeah I haven’t even been on since i took a breather in May (or was it June idk). I could read through all the old threads but I don’t have the time for that unfortunately.
We see Tina Wesson who was the doctor role in Survivor, doing a similar job here but against a virus. That’s new. I also wouldn’t be surprised if her opposite is a mafia member and randomly placed on the other tribe. There has to be some sort of randomness here with roles that counterbalance each other.

Wait how would we even push the button? Is that something we can decide as a group to push or is it at the discretion of the actual Giant Anonymous Talking Button (tm)?

If it's like in Chicka Chicka then the button can only be pushed by the player who has that role. It was a one shot power that switched everyone's roles and alignments around and also made the player who pressed it unable to win until they died and were given a different role.
it probably doesn't work exactly like that here since cc123 was an LTS

I don't think it would be info dumping to say who did a haiku? While people could lie about it I don't think many would so we could consider saying if we did.
Kylemii the word it adds is for search purposes. It's a word we wouldn't use in just normal mafia conversation so when the host is tallying the vote count all they have to do is search the thread for that word. For that reason I recommend you try not to say that word so it keeps the host's job as simple as possible.

I mean.... Yes, that's true in games where manual vote tally is the only vote tally, but since this game has a poll as well, it just kinda turns the eggplant thing into an absurd looking artifact divorced from it's true purpose.
