Re: Fantasy Movie League - Draft Thread
An important point to mention re: actors. An actor must be listed in the credits of a film to count towards it. This might seem obvious, however there are occasional quickie cameos that actors choose to not make official that will not count.
The example of this that I can point to was from last year because it caused a ripple in my other league. If you watch the end credits of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, one of the floating heads that pops up is none other than Jeff Goldblum, in his Grandmaster get-up, before Thor: Ragnarok actually showed who that character was. So, the Goldblum owner in that league demanded a chunk of the GOTG2 box office since Goldblum "appeared" in the film. However, our bible is imdb, and imdb clearly shows him as "uncredited". Thus... no box office in that case.
So remember that, in case it shows up again in this league. An actor must be in the credits, to count towards box office.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Draft Thread
Nice about most of the cast is that they don't have earlier films, so if Backseat premieres at TIFF and it's unexpectedly crappy, most of the cast can be dumped without hurting anything, but as of now, Backseat is the baitest looking end of year film out there!

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Draft Thread
Not if they've been released in the United States.
This is a really complicated form of tricksiness where you have to know what movies get a release somewhere else first.

so some movies in 2018 have already been released. If my actor wins an award for one of those movies, what happens to me?

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Draft Thread
I've got an ace in the hole in this draft that no-one else is going to draft.
OK, it's more like a 3 of clubs in the hole, but if it pays off everyone's going to think I'm a genius, and they'll be wrong.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Draft Thread
Only movies opening after May 1 matter. An award for a film from earlier is useless to you.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Draft Thread
nah man
You Were Never Really Here. He's utterly fantastic in it. After he got snubbed (IMO) for The Master, Inherent Vice, and Her, I feel like he's due a win, and YWNRH is basically just a big showcase for him.
(also isn't The Sisters Brothers 2019?)
I also think Laura Dern has a shot at Best Actress for The Tale, so what do I know

Sisters Brothers is expected, but not confirmed, to sneak in a NY/LA qualifying run at the end of the year, making it 2018 awards eligible.insertnamehere wrote: ↑Wed Apr 18, 2018 5:46 pm nah man

I was gonna take either "Can You Ever Forgive Me" or Melissa McCarthy. Since I got the movie I passed on the actor. Though now people have Rami and Melissa and I've got their movies. Gonna be interesting to see how it plays out. Good pick though.

MM has like 2-3 movies coming out so in addition to the CYEFM awards she'll likely win (because I only pick winners) She's good on box office money as well.

Yeah, I was going to get her in a later round, but she's a good sleeper pick.
