Re: Chess!
I would like to, but we'll have to find a time where we can both play some time.

Re: Chess!
I used to play more than I have in recent memory. I might be down at some point when time permits.

But at high school I did once get asked to play the regional chess championships. In a moment that fed deeply into stereotypes, it was three asian boys who were friends of mine and the tournament needed four. They made me the top seed, and over the course of several rounds we progressed all the way to playing the last game at the top table. My contribution was notably minimal, but it wasn't nil. I won at least one, maybe two. The rest cleaned up the lower seeds. I think we all lost at the top table though.

Re: Chess!
Last summer, after I hadn't played for a number of years, I went to the cottage with some friends. One of the friends had been playing more regularly, and he challenged me and beat me several times. I didn't like that outcome, and I signed up to Chess.com when I got home. I've been playing a few games a day on average since then, and my skills have increased to a point that I had never attained in my earlier life.

Re: Chess!
I like Chess, and recently taught all my children how to play. I like playing in person though.

Re: Chess!
A few holidays ago when I was home with my youngest siblings, we devised a chess board for 3 players. It was a hot mess, but it was fun.

It's honestly the feel of the pieces. Wood, glass, stone, whatever.
It makes a difference to me. Clicking icons just isn't the same.
And hell, I played Battle Chess as a kid.

I think they were trapezoids that pointed toward a center circle or something.Long Con wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 9:54 pmHexagons?JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 9:52 pm A few holidays ago when I was home with my youngest siblings, we devised a chess board for 3 players. Agreed. One of my favorite possessions is a chess board I got in the UK modeled for the King Arthur story. I think I have played one game on it in four years.

Re: Chess!
Unfortunately I rarely get the chance to play chess physically. My town does not have any chess clubs at all, so the best I have is teaching my friends or attending random chess events at coffee shops, which is a rarity for me as I don't always have the time. It's a shame as I feel that I have played my best games over the board.
