Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread
Both are films that I plan on seeing as early as possible, I'll most likely really enjoy, and will most likely get no awards love. Of the two, I'd say Hereditary might get more money.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread
So this is the second instance of an actor being picked after they already starred in a movie and thus started generating box office. First Reformed opened three weeks ago. If such moves are actually legal, then I don't see how the game can run fairly.

If both of these are accurate I assume that neither of those picks will stand.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread
It was my understanding that actors/actresses are locked once their first movie of the May-December season rolls, meaning both locked in one's draft, if chosen beforehand, and ineligible to be picked any longer, if not.

no. actors and actresses are locked into YOUR roster if you have picked them and their first movie of the May-December season rolls in. meaning you can't drop them if they didn't score well (same with movies). I don't believe they are ineligible to be chosen, only that I can't claim points for any movie that was released before I picked them.

Wow, would be rough if annette bening won an award for the Seagull, huh.dunya wrote: ↑Thu Jun 07, 2018 7:07 amno. actors and actresses are locked into YOUR roster if you have picked them and their first movie of the May-December season rolls in. meaning you can't drop them if they didn't score well (same with movies). I think that would be equivalent to claiming an award for a movie released in April, which has been ruled out. So probably no.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread
I know, I was just messing with Rico's temperature. I picked Bening for another movie; I knew the rule before I did.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread
The rule is pretty clear. An actor only generates box office and awards if their film opens while they are on your roster. No on't can ever get retroactive box or awards.
In other news Rico has withdrawn from the game. I'll just leave his roster as it is and we will let his roster exist as a ghost player.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread
Let the record reflect this was my understanding as well, and that I don't know how fair I find it. For example:
Lets say actor Dharma Helper stars in 3 films coming out within the window of the league (May-December) and Film #1 comes out and people are like "wow actually Dharma Helper is pretty good. Nobody expected Film #1 to do that great, and it did real good. Film #2 and Film #3 are must watch now, and I bet Dharma Helper will get nominated for some awards"
IMO, If no one in the league had the foresight to pick Dharma Helper before his films hit theaters then he should be locked out. Otherwise you're looking at a scenario where actors that previously had little or no awards buzz and now do based on the performance of their films (which we DID NOT have access to during the draft) can get snaked up.
IDK. I see the frustration.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread
This functions pretty much just like any sports fantasy league.
Nobody is going to draft Joe Schmo of the Tennessee Titans, but if he comes out in Week 2 and puts up 30 points, people might think he's worth grabbing as a free agent. Granted in those cases there's a waiver wire system, but that's not the fault of these rules. The first person to pull the trigger is the one who gets the spoils -- if there even are any (not remotely guaranteed).

Let the record show that Rico didn't drop out because of this rule. However, I find your example a little weird tbh.DharmaHelper wrote: ↑Thu Jun 07, 2018 1:25 pmLet the record reflect this was my understanding as well, and that I don't know how fair I find it. For example:

Why play with examples; let's use real names. Rico picked up The Seagull. Annette Bening was not picked up. I needed an actress. I saw Annette Bening was available (indeed, no one even dropped Annette, no one had even considered her!). I picked Annette Bening up. I won't earn any points for The Seagull. What is the issue here?
If you're seriously arguing that if 1 actor did well in 1 movie then all the other movies must be great....nah. In fact, I'll say history shows that if 1 movie is outstanding then the actor will get very little recognition for other movies that same year. The Seagull made half a mil in US. It's not exactly outstanding material that I based my pick of Annette Bening on. I don't care about The Seagull at all. I have no claim to The Seagull. The Seagull did not play any role in my choice of Annette Bening. Indeed, I thought it was released before May and had no idea Rico had chosen it before. I picked her entirely based on the probability of Georgetown being released this year (which is still unconfirmed)--I like the story and the supporting cast (Christoph Waltz, Vanessa Redgrave) and directed by Waltz. I feel like it could earn her awards.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread
regardless of what we all think anyway, timmer made that specific rule clear in the very first signup thread post (I quoted it) and everyone should have read it... so not much to discuss in fairness--he's not making exceptions now; it's a rule, it's part of the game.

To me it doesn't matter what the rule is, but it is what it is - we should not lobby for it to change midflight.

I'm not gonna argue about the rule, I don't mean to upset the apple cart here or make anybody uncomfortable. I don't mind the picks/drops enough to lobby against them, I was just confuzzled about the locked-in aspect of the actors/movies.dunya wrote: ↑Thu Jun 07, 2018 3:12 pmLet the record show that Rico didn't drop out because of this rule. People have different opinions and no one is wrong or right. I could be biased because I want Bening, after all.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread
I have a suggestion.
If any person who is playing is concerned that anything is against the rules, just PM timmer. Timmer will either straighten you out about the rules or straighten the thread out and fix any errors, and it will avoid any hurt feelings. I'm quite confident no one intends to break any rules. In fact:

This is what I assumed had happened, and I'm sure anything done against the rules would be similarly a mistake.
