Jack, can you talk to me about this? To me Nova read like he genuinely didn't want to get lynched. How is that alignment indicative?
Eh. Maybe it isn’t. Felt that way at the time.

I also tend to underestimate CFD (hot potato?) plausibility since I come from a traditionally hammer lynch site. But the votes did seem to come in real fast compared to the evidence.

What's the reasoning behind your Sloonei vote? You said this:

SLoonei is pinging me for similar reasons, mainly his focus on the lack of alignments during Day 0 and questioning how many baddies there are.
But I don't know why those things are pings to you. Is there more? Do you have any additional reads?

Rainbow list of the players currently voting for me:
Dyslexicon
Jack
K-ness
speedchuck
sprityo

Lunalee

I know I'm supposed to be moving beyond self-defense, but I'm still going to begin from this position. I suspect that there is at least one baddie pushing for my lynch today given the full context of this phase. Luna and sprit so far have most fit the bill. I do not know K-ness well enough and have not seen enough from him to comment thoroughly on his participation in this game. Jack seems to regard him as town, but I don't get the sense that's a particularly strong read. I posted my speedchuck thoughts at length last night.

I just glanced through Jack's posts a moment ago and found nothing outrageously objectionable. His approach seems like what I've come to expect from town Jack.

Dizzy is clearly town. Hit the ground running with pure confidence and attitude.

LC is probably town. There have been a ping or two but I think they were mere disagreements. His D1 looked super good for reasons I don’t remember.

Alien I probably like less than consensus. They aren’t around either.

can you elaborate on what you mean by "doesn't look great"?
Like there's nothing there of substance. If he's town, he could be trying harder to help out.
Still reading through Day One, this post from Luna strikes me as odd. Feels like she's saying "If I contribute to the death of a civ with this vote, it's his fault for not trying hard enough". Not wanting to take ownership/be held responsible if she happens to be wrong.

sprityo wrote: Thu Sep 27, 2018 3:52 am Sloonei keeps insisting I look at him through “the good guy lens.”

Which....I’m not seeing. I already said what it would be if you were town here and I don’t find that to be the case. I’m not gonna let this instance try to be swept under the rug like it isn’t important. I won’t let you play the pity card Sloonei. Sorry.
This is another post where I wonder whether sprit is being authentic. Perhaps it is just a difference in playstyle, but to arrive at a point on the second day phase (which is called Day 3 in this game) to "not see" room for a player to be town, in the absence of any definitive connections or out-of-thread information seems, to me, counter-intuitive. My concern is that sprit is over-emphasizing the strength of his Sloonei suspicion. This is how sprit framed his hypothetical of me being town:
Here's the unlikely scenario:

Sloonei is town, he gets pursued by mac who is not someone to back down off his intuition. Sloonei isnt lynch, much to mac's dismay. then during the night, mac still paints him as someone bad, essentially a guarantee he's gonna try to lynch sloonei on day2. He even goes as far as to taunt sloonei to kill him. Mafia kills mac and waits for someone to attack sloonei.
Right off the bat he characterizes it as "unlikely". He is discrediting it before it's even introduced. He then describes a series of events which, by my reckoning, are entirely likely. "Sloonei" is a passive agent in this scenario. His only role is to be the subject of Macdougall's suspicion. I feel like this is a dismissal of the figure of Sloonei entirely and don't know why this is the reduction he provides, but it does not actually seem to address the involvement of the player against whom he is making an accusation.

He then poses this rhetorical question:
so would mafia kill mac to blame sloonei? or would sloonei kill mac to take the pressure and focus off himself?
This reduces the scope a bit too much, to two binary points of direct opposition. There are a myriad of possible scenarios that do not align completely with either of these. Certainly these could both be possible influences which went into the decision to kill Mac, but neither is a complete picture. I would not offer a complete speculation into why Macdougall was killed, but my very general theory is that it's because he's a player the mafia team wanted to have removed and who was unlikely to become the target of a lynch himself. I think it would then be likely that the mafia team would then take the opportunity to pursue suspects who had been named by the nightkilled player, Macdougall. sprityo, however, does not directly acknowledge this possibility and instead places it under the umbrella of "an unlikely scenario". But I do not see why this scenario would be deemed unlikely.

sprityo Forgetting the names of players involved in this particular instance, do you think it's unlikely that the mafia team would nightkill a player and then seek to lynch targets who are made more accessible via the death of the nightkilled player?

I wanted to post an updated read on alien, but he's been AWOL since Sunday. I don't object to his suspicion of me since it seems to just be the result of unfamiliarity with my meta. That can happen. We've never played together before. I do have one small point to make about his Jay read, which is kind of just me playing devil's advocate here:
Infected_alien8_ wrote: Sat Sep 22, 2018 1:15 am Very initial first impression of the thread: Jay feels off, don't know why though
This post was used as evidence for a town Alien, the reason being that he has played one previous game with Jay in which he behaved like his normal self. Jay did a different thing here, alien perceived that, and so it was suggested that this observation of his probably came from an honest place.

On the contrary, I could say that this observation was extremely easy to make, and thus easy to fake. If I was a bad player in a relatively new environment and saw a player behaving notably different from how I would expect, I could use that as an easy ticket to get the ball rolling on my phony suspicions.

I am not saying that necessarily has to be the case, but I would not rule that out. I'd lean town on alien right now, but he hasn't said enough for me to produce a confident read one way or the other.

SLoonei is pinging me for similar reasons, mainly his focus on the lack of alignments during Day 0 and questioning how many baddies there are.
But I don't know why those things are pings to you. Is there more? Do you have any additional reads?
Wanting to know how many bad guys there would be when that answer was obvious from the rules thread. That was my first ping. The rest of the pings are how you're leading post count by a significant margin and yet going through your ISO reveals nothing of real value to me, just a bunch of talking (more like flailing). You've given me nothing to trust you at this point.

4-5 hours till day end, correct? I’ll be around just before day end, I expect.

Want to also look at Alien and Nova. Plus wondering whether anyone who knows Turnip has a read on them?

What is the motivation for a mafia member to feign ignorance and question the number of bad guys? I'll echo Quin's question when he faced the same criticism earlier: What is gained by that?

Also your second criticism is something that I faced profusely in my most recent game on the Realms. "Just talking" is the name of the game for me. I talk about the game until I feel comfortable with it. Are there any specific questions you have for me that would help you to better understand my current position?

Do you have any additional reads to talk about?

There's also a lot of light green that I don't love to have, but I have no direct reason to scum read anyone in that group of players, and I prefer to offer a stance whenever I can. There's also too many players on whom I can offer no stance at all. The darker green tiers and the orange/red tiers are the reads I would regard as solid at this point. Everything else is weak and ill-defined. That's, you know, how rainbow lists work.

Feel free to ask me about these reads if you have any questions.

My internet keeps cutting out so I may end up giving up and going to bed shortly but I think I've gained as much from re-reading the previous lynch as I can. In conclusion, it was a clusterfrick.

OH. Wow, Nova's ISO is pretty empty. It doesn't look to great. I'd rather lynch him than Eloh, who's actually been trying to contribute.
can you elaborate on what you mean by "doesn't look great"?
Like there's nothing there of substance. If he's town, he could be trying harder to help out.
Still reading through Day One, this post from Luna strikes me as odd. Feels like she's saying "If I contribute to the death of a civ with this vote, it's his fault for not trying hard enough". Not wanting to take ownership/be held responsible if she happens to be wrong.
By saying "If he's town, he could be trying harder to help out." I meant, "he's not trying, therefore he might be scum"
The implication I'm still picking up is "he's not trying, therefore he might be scum or he might not be and it's nobody's fault but his own if he gets lynched". Right now I'm not strongly opposed to either bandwagon really, Dys asked my opinion on Sloonei earlier and I didn't really have a solid one at the time so I'll go back and have a look over him like I said I would.

Feigning ignorance of the mafia count when it's explicitly stated can be a way to try to appear helpful while adding nothing of value to the discussion. Since we already know the number that we should be looking for, it begs the question why it would need to be asked at all.

Talking just for the sake of talking feels like clutter at best, obfuscation at worst. It makes it difficult to get an actual read on a player as one has to slug through a ton of irrelevant or nonsensical posts.

I’m working under this assumption. Princesses are nearly always town and Mega Man is a beloved character and one of only two surefire townies.
but most roles with nonpublic powers are recruitable, making a recruitable role have a negative utility power like a princess would be kind of weird wouldn't it? how would that even work?
It wouldn’t. Mega Man isn’t recruitable.
mega man isn't the only role that's died? why would the princess have to be mega man

I've already expressed this, but I read the role description for Wily, assuming that that would contain all of the information about recruitment. There was no mention of a total number of recruits available to him. I still have not looked at the rules to see where it's explicitly stated that the answer is 4, but I trust everyone who says that's the number. I didn't read the rules carefully. Oh well. If you find it more likely that I am bad and thought it would be beneficial to myself as a team to make people acknowledge our numbers, that's fine, you do that. But in reality, I asked because I did not know that the information was readily available. I'm a big dumb idiot.

I fundamentally disagree with the philosophy expressed in your second paragraph and this point is NAI for me anyway, but that's not pertinent right now. What I care about is any specific questions you might have for me, and also any additional reads you could offer. Please and thanks.
