Regarding the ratio. The short version: despite having played Mafia on-and-off for 13 years or so, I had never heard of Mountainous set-ups until Jay and Nova had a conversation about it. Oops!

The slightly longer version: when it was clear we were stalled short of my ideal size, I deliberated for a long time between 10v2 and 9v3, and consulting the available literature on balance (which some of it, I see now, talks about Mountainous — oops again) I couldn't settle on a good ratio. 9v3 felt like it might be overkill, but 10v2 felt like it was heavily skewed against the scum — catch one and, knowing how good these players are, the game could be immediately over. In the end I realize I hyped up the players we had (a compliment to you all) and while I can’t anticipate everything, I'm sorry if anybody feels cheated.

So 9v3 was not a decision made carelessly, but it seems to go against what's understood to be balanced, and again, I apologize. It’s not ideal, but I hope people still had some fun and walk away with lots of juicy notes on each other, if nothing else. Thanks again for playing, and don't forget the other games in sign-ups now!
