Felt like he was over-compensating, and I got the same feelings after our interaction when he turned his focus on Juliets by digging out an old game where she was bad just to further confirm his "good" early read of her.

It's making a point about Jay being different. What it is not is an attempt to point Jay as bad for that difference, followed by waiting for him to defend himself, and then saying "okay I didn't actually suspect you, was just fishing for a reaction". Which is apparently the framework Jay wants me to follow.

It's just pointing a difference, then also pointing a possible explanation for the difference, which in turn makes an attempt to accuse him pointless since I don't believe in that accusation myself.
