That's not a logical fallacy. A scum can buddy some villager without it being a whiteknight situation.

Re: Philosophers' Mafia [DAY 0]
Nah. Pocketing is way too clumsy. See my explanation below.iaafr wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 11:42 pmthis is a lot of faith in somebody who kinda failed to have good/confident reads d1 d2 and blatantly went against your plan d4+ of spec chat warrior gameTimsup2nothin wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 11:32 pm if it doesn't he'll have really good reasons by the time we're actually chopping someone
you pocketing me?
No worries. Once we chop someone and burn this bar to the ground over them we will both have ample opportunity to reassess all our reads...including each other. I'm not totally up for chopping Nutella yet, but it's a long day ahead and for now I like that better than chopping Rabbit. My meta on him is only one game but he feels pretty much the same as he did there and a lot of people who really knew him just flat TRed him in that game.tutuu wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 11:39 pm my read on proto is based off of meta. like 99% of it, tim. thats why im so confident and desire to get sheeped for THAT particular read, at least.
if your townread on iaafr is based off of meta / you have some strong feelings that you cant verbalize, sure. i am going to unvote iaafr and vote nutella. but please make sure your read is right. if ur wrong we wont play this little game in future games and naturally if im wrong i wont ever suggest u extend this trust towards me either.
uh actually i dont want to make you waste one of your posts just to confirm that u wish for me to indeed unvote iaafr. ill just assume that is what u want.
i will be honest that u are not from my top townreads. in fact there are like 4-5 ppl i townread more than you, LOL. but, i do think that its nice of u to roleplay masons with me, so sure.
lets watch our backs in this bar brawl, but from time to time throw each other split second squints of suspicioun.

We'll see how he goes.

Re: Philosophers' Mafia [DAY 0]
Of the less prominent players, I do agree that LC looks towny. I like his entire attitude so far.
But the rest are pretty null. I've honestly forgotten the posts of players like Proto and Colin. Actually Colin did say something that pinged me, where he dismissed the Amy wagon and supported the nutella suspicions (I think). I'd want to know more about that.
Nanook I'm probably going to have trouble reading because of how he plays. I think and hope he'll do more elaborating on his reads today.
Dyslexicon popped in to say something. I said 'hi' and he didn't say hi back so he's basically confirmed mafia.
Kza, like I said, is struggling to get involved in the game. Or he really doesn't care, but I would expect more if he's town here. GIVE ME SOMETHING KAZ.
-------------------
Tutuu, can you help us understand the meta read and what proto has done to fit that town meta?

Re: Philosophers' Mafia [DAY 0]
proto is town, beluga whale, cuz he thought i was maf/maf theathre with alison cuz i said SHUT UP ALISON. he is like that cuz he, like, idk how to say it. like he takes stuff overly-serious. like he often doesnt grasp when ppl are lying / saying stuff in jest. and the me + alison stuff in particular is due to our meta. like. uh. space invaders and shit. like his brain is hard to get into it but i believe ive finally managed to unlock his door. dude i cant explain it. thats why i said meta. it was a buzzword for "pls dont ask me"

what post(s) made you feel that way?
And you would be correctTimsup2nothin wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 12:48 am Shakespeare reference in a Philosopher game.
I'll go with towny on that.

i don't really like this attitude toward d0 and because this isn't a vacuum i don't really agree that playing the game is inherently townyAmy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 12:17 am i guess honestly given that it's d0 and doesn't matter, and that the threadstate mostly reflects this, it's probably lightly villagery in a vacuum for anyone to be actually Playing The Game at this point
which i think looks best for alison because she's taking it the most seriously
6/30
i guess alison for town makes sense if you go by that assumption, but i wouldn't lol, she likes playing scum
hmm tutuu makes an alright point on tim, i kinda like that takeAmy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 12:10 amthis is a bad read on tim, because tim is a player who's generally extremely cognizant of his own posting and able to deliberately fake stuff like this as a wolf quite welltutuu wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 10:52 pm 24/30
tr on tim, i think its towny that he spent a post saying "wait did X rly do Y?" instead of taking 5 secs to scroll back and see for it himself. and im kinda feeling like he still didnt bother going back to look for it, he just assumed what im saying is true and went along with it and made a joke
that said i think it's kind of villagery to make this read, maybe?
i'm torn on tutuu in general because i think the way they kinda jumped us out of shitposting phase by taking a jokepost seriously is something i've seen both alignments do and i'm not entirely sure which one i'm looking at here. gth probably v off tone but far from sure
4/30
idk why you're making all these qualifiers on an early townlean, makes it not even sound like a townlean

honestly this is just a really towny post and i immediately wanted to locktown proto for it alone, with extremely limited meta (skimmed space invaders)
the scumreads feel good, not overjustified, just real. this dude has 3 real scumreads off the bat. scum who can post like this are omega rare.
consider this post my towncase on protocultures.

Re: Philosophers' Mafia [DAY 0]
tbh it was at least partially due to the stuff he said about how many posts he was going to have lmao. and just his general attitude/approach
also I just had a similar moment in thinking about protocultures and decided he's prob just town too, partially from what tutuu just said about him

Re: Philosophers' Mafia [DAY 0]
Sorry tutuu, I still think you are mafia. Dont hate me, we can still be anime buddies.
Alison - ehhhhh, I am unconvinced that tutuu did something towny, so cant see why you flipped on Tutuu. Dont want to start a meta of always saying Alison is mafia though, so will just park this read here and leave them in undecided range. other than their flip on Tutuu, I townread Alison.
Nutella - think they are town. Had the same suspicion on Alison re flipping the read on Tutuu, and the post Alison made in mafia tactics. I take Alisons counterpoint, but thats not where my mind went to first, it went to he same place Nutella's did.
Iaafr - cant remember any specific post, but I townread them. In generally, not a fan of quickly reaching post caps though.
LC is impossible to read to me as always.
Amy is still a decent vote for me today, and I am unlikely to change my vote unless something significant happens. probably going to vote tutuu after Amy dies but we could start getting claims from start of next day, so who knows.
Other people, I am undecided.
I feel a bit more tired than usual in a forum game. Im stressed about the post limit although I am posting low numbers anyway, makes no sense.
Will try to play a bit more casual than normal, need to learn to play without reading every post multiple times and go more with feel. Will help when in multiple games at once.

do you really not think tutuu could/would say this if she was town and frustrated at alison?protocultures wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 1:51 am
“SHUT UP ALISON” is something Tutuu likely says if they are in scumchat together. Its too angry for town Tutuu to say to Alison. They are besties.
people can proxy vote to sort of "show where they stand"protocultures wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 1:51 am Also, why are people voting on Day 0? isnt this a meet and greet but nothing happens?
This is my first closed forum game. Second forum game ever (have one more in progress). I have never rolled mafia in forum, so theres no baseline to look for.

i have 2 choices for alison. 1) tr her for her enthusiasm to try to catch me scum or 2) scumread her if i put the bar a little higher and expect her to not make overly wrong reads on me. and i think her second post saying "town tutuu does X and scum tutuu does Y" was silly considering the game was like 30-40 posts in none of my friends had even posted by that point AND also the fact that she has never seen me play mafia so idk how could she say with confidence what would maf tutuu do. Despite her being wrong on both of these stuff gth i still wanna call her town. perhaps part of ot could be rock-paper-scissors fallacy (i just invented this fallacy). basically rock paper scissors is down to luck, but also not. so in this context i think that if alison rolled mafia against me this game and she saw that i was town, i think her approach wouldnt be to start by making an illogical push on me (this is the rock paper scissors). so she can b lean town
i also slightly wanna tr nanook primarily cuz he called me town and i liked it.
i read ur stuff about tim, amy, and respectfully i will disagree, ive never played with him b4 but i still think i saw a town posting town stuff, so

yeah i get the same impression from proto's posts. He's very self aware and I don't think he would have *that* much of an issue posting like that as scum, but it fits well within his town meta. I don't see anything that screams scum particularlyBenson wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 9:04 amUnderstandable. Have a nice day.
Actually, I want to talk about proto's entrance because I'm surprised no one else is talking about that (unless I missed it). I'm talking specially about the self-conscious meta talk as the first thing they wrote.
Because on the surface it gives me super wolfy vibes, even if it was probably written by a villager *that just plays like that*. Anyone else put off by that or have a take on this?

Scirrus' entrance also poor. Generic roleplay that attempts to disguise an uncomfortable thread entrance.
But I'm not playing serious yet, so I'll just have to wait to mention these thoughts until I am.
Curious to see what playing serious is. Maybe you will tunnel me instead of just throwing weak shade? I guess we will stay tuned!

Mafia philosophical question: is intuition or rationality more important to you when forming reads? Or is that a bad dichotomy.

It expresses support for and confidence in the host, possibly attempting to pocket him for reasons unknown.
It fires a warning shot across the bow for Master Radishes implying that his posts will be assessed with more than just a casual level of scrutiny.
It serves to warn other players that subtle assumptions made about innocuous posts can be used to influence their subsequent reads, and that a highly evolved wolf such as Master Radishes would be if he randed wolf may use such tactics.
It also serves as fair warning that if I had randed wolf I also am a wolf of that nature so should be handled carefully.
It produces the wifom that if I HAD randed wolf I would not want townies to start thinking on such subtle levels so I would have just let it pass, so it effectively town tells me.
Or it could have just been the setup line for a joke about common root vegetables and Master Radishes. I leave it to you to determine for yourself whether to treat me as a highly nuanced player looking five layers deep into every post made, or to treat me as a happy go lucky jokester giving a day zero exactly the minimal weight that it probably deserves.

So let me jump on the meme train here, mainly because I want this specific copy pasta to become a thing.
Mafia was created by Dimitri Davidoff in 1986. Since then, there have been tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands Mafia games played throughout the world, in IRL, Forums, Video, Voice chat and more.
From all of these millions, billions, and even trillions Mafia games, there has not been a single town who has been more towny than Proto has been this game. Take that scumread back and be ashamed of yourself, son.

I mean, its level 1 but you scumread Amy with me, and you townread me, so to me you are more likely town than mafia.
I dont have a great reason for it tbh.

Re: Philosophers' Mafia [DAY 0]
re "SHUT UP ALISON" I mean its possible. In terms of meta, I can think of a recent instance where tutuu swore in the general direction of town Alison. However that had very specific cirucmstances, and they were trying to not TMI re Alison's alignment.Scirrus wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 12:34 amdo you really not think tutuu could/would say this if she was town and frustrated at alison?protocultures wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 1:51 am
“SHUT UP ALISON” is something Tutuu likely says if they are in scumchat together. Its too angry for town Tutuu to say to Alison. They are besties.

This is my first closed forum game. Second forum game ever (have one more in progress). I have never rolled mafia in forum, so theres no baseline to look for.

if anyone wanted my hypothetical d0 vote, it would have been Amy or Tutuu. Likely Tutuu because she is too beloved in the community and would never get enough votes. Amy is probably beloved as well, but I never played with them either, so no idea if they couldnt be voted over.

Scirrus and nutella are scummy, proto is town.
I am very tired and don't feel like talking much so if you want to engage me about any of these reads just tell me which ones stand out to you.

agreed on mostly everything. I could see the interaction being theatre maybe but i don't really have high confidence in W/W reads this early. Haven't seen any reason to townread MR so far tho tbhAlison wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 1:30 pm tutuu is town for that massive wall of text with incredibly convoluted reasoning about my alignment. I'm gut reading proto town.
MR and tim have some W/W equity for a very "theater"-like interaction.
Benson seems like he's lonely and trying to reach out to people, which is town. Also Benson, my experience with proto has led me to feel absolutely no discomfort at his "self-conscious meta talk". I get why you feel suspicious about it - I had similar thoughts on iaafr. I'm just saying, from my own meta experience it's not something I'm concerned about.
Nah. If i'm trying to appear casual there are like sooooo many better ways I could have done that lol
I was going to bed and had read none of thread so I just decided to RP for a lil fun before I slept
And I'd do it again too!

His entire catchup has felt bland and lacking in engagement to me. I'm not sure how to put this, but it's like he's giving the easy responses, without actually trying to really sort or push people.

alison probably saw that tony post where he spoke about post limits and i also got confused cuz nobody had the number at 60 so initially i thought it all got changed by a role
but tony just accounted for ur d0 posts alison so u can calculate ur posts like that. u still get 60 per day, u had 20 on d0
