I’ve watched two townie players post only emojis AND catch scum D1.

I’ve never seen a scum player do it.

It’s the kind of thing that draws a lot of attention and invites reads like “this player is slanking/being unhelpful, therefore scum.” Scum don’t generally care to play like that.

Eh, I've seen a scum post entirely images so I wouldn't rule it out.

"Jesus Christ my head...." Maxie groans as he rolls over. Adams was on the ground next to him still unconscious. Upon clearing his head of any kind of lingering fog, the detective came to realize his possessions were gone, same with his friend. The last thing he remembered was walking into the sewage tunnel with Adams and then darkness. The most peculiar thing was that his head wasn't bruised or tender anywhere like he was assaulted, rather he had just passed out somehow.

Looking around the room, there was nothing of note save the full metal door to his left and the monitor wall in front of him. Camera upon camera, most of them dark, but a few had a feed coming through. He stood up and approached the screens and he could tell that these were one hundred-percent the missing people he had been looking for. What came next though he was not expecting. An overhead voice came over the speakers.

"Thank you for joining Detective Raymond. I hope you slept well. Mr. Adams will hopefully be around soon."
"You son of a bitch, what is going on here?" Maxie looked around for the source of the voice.
"I am not anywhere near Detective, but to answer your question, This is a message. As with all things, it is meant for someone. Now please pay attention to what happens next."

A commotion had begun on the screen in front of Maxie and he turned his attention back to the screen.

"Time is up. Either one of you is shackled or all of you die." Came the voice again, only louder and booming around the room. The group fought between NIK and Jack and in the end, Jack was forcibly pinned and shackled to the ground. A bell rang as he screamed and begged to be freed. The lights flicker and go out. Save for the screaming there's no other noise except the grinding of stone. A faint breeze is now felt as the light flicker back to life and a hallway is open to everyone else.

"Exit unless you wish to suffer with the sinner. Do not turn back for that is but a death-wish." A recorded voice echoes around. Everyone leaves Jack, his voice going hoarse as they all depart. As the final person leaves, the lights go out in the chamber they just departed. Jack's voice is suddenly cut off and it's silent.

As the players keep walking the hallway opens up more and more. It is seemingly endless up to where the lights stop. "That was an exhilarating start, but the true test begins now. The shadows are always darker where you can't see them. Be careful who you trust." The lights begin shutting off in sequence leading to the group, eventually plunging everyone into darkness once more.

After what felt like forever, the lights turn back on. instead of one hallways the group now finds themselves in the center of an intersection, each of course leading into darkness.

The voice comes back on, "This is not the worst outcome, but neither is it a preferable one. Send forth your chosen to their fate. Another sacrifice is required. Until all the sinners are gone this is what will occur. You have 48 hours."

NO ONE HAS DIED. DAY ENDS IN 48 HOURS OR 11PM EST WEDNESDAY

Most or all of the 'soup kill'-type kills that I have seen, have involved forsaking the regular nightkill for the soupy one. We had no regular nightkill; do we think it was substituted for the Obliterfailure?

Otherwise, there may be some people with some roleblocks that have some potential good news.

The killer lines up guesses for matching roles with players. If the first guess is correct, then the player dies and it moves to the second guess, until an incorrect match ends it.

NIK showing up D2 and actually contributing would help my read here, but I really feel like the scum jumped on the NIK wagon.

Something about a group of outsiders playing and having one of that crew be singled out seems to call wolves to the wagon.
I experienced that in a big way in the Simpsons game. Slightly different circumstance, but I think the scenario applies.
It's an easy out for any of the locals. "These new guys know eachother and thought NIK is trash, so I voted there because I HAVE NO READS ON ANY OF THE PEOPLE I NORMALLY PLAY WITH"
